Yelling at ESPN

Am I the only one who yelled at the TV last night, urging ESPN to stop talking to Drew Carey or Steve Young and just please show the game?  I know it was a blowout, but still.  ESPN's format is infuriating.  If I wanted interviews, I'd watch Charlie Rose.  Actually, I wouldn't, but I'd watch some different interview show.

well...i'm over that aspect
considering the fact that steve young was defending the 'hawks performance (rightfully so), and drew carey is "part of this city" now, i'm ok with them on the air.  however, it's that assclown, stuart scott, that continues to infuriate me.  as young was talking about the 'hawks rising to the occasion and becoming part of the elite in the nfc despite some tough losses, scott jumps in in numerous occasions with his obnoxious voice saying "are you sure? are you sure? blah blah blah."  ugh...

btw, has anybody else notice that scott's left eye brow is higher than his right? you know, like he's trying to look like "the rock" or something...

as much as i dislike stuart scott
i'm not gonna jump on the guy about his eye troubles.  he has some sort of severe medical condition, and it extends a lot further than just his eyebrows.  often one of his eyes is swollen almost shut.  that's why you get so many far-back shots of him wearing glasses, to obscure the fact.

but he's a boring and repetitive broadcaster at this point, having not changed a single thing since he was last funny, in 1993.

great win last night, that rocked.

Yeah,
as much as I hate Stu Scott's broadcasting style, you just can't get on him about his eye troubles. That corneal surgery really messed him up.

I had no idea what was going on
But he did look really funny whenever the camera would catch a closer look at him. Good to know.

He got hit in the eye by a football
that had been shot from a machine at the Jets' mini camp a few years ago.

wow, i had no idea...
i guess i just stop watching him...in the late 90s.
btw, was someone on the jets aiming for him?

I enjoyed Steve Young
Could have done without Drew Carey though.

I thought the announcers were pretty painful overall.

Back in the day...
when I lived in NH but was a NW sports fan, I was an ESPN junky. I haven't watched it regularly in 10 years, but what strikes me is that it's all the same anchors plus a few retired athletes.

Where's the young talent?

by John Morgan on Nov 13, 2007 10:29 AM PST reply actions

Jaws is awesome
and I'm a pretty big Drew Carey fan, so I didn't mind it.

ESPN needs more Jaws and Steve Young and less Sean Salisbury.

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Really? No more Rachel Nichols?
But I enjoy the guesswork that goes into wondering just what color her hair is from week to week.

Also... much much less Merril Hoge is necessary.

How could I've forgotten Hoge?
And, yes, I stand by my dislike of Rachel Nichols. The way she talks coupled with her caked on makeup make me turn off the TV when I see her.

totally agree
I really like Scott Van Pelt and Neil Everett when they do Sportscenter.

I also like the college gameday crew of Fowler, Herbstreet(sp?) and Corso.

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Keyshawn?
V. 1.0, mutherf***er, know what I'm sayin'?

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 13, 2007 2:29 PM PST up reply actions

Oh, man.
When I started doing my list, Keyshawn was on my mind, but by the time I got to the "Less" category, I'd forgotten about him.

Good catch, Scruffy.

Good Lord, don't get me started on Keyshawn
Actually I don't really dislike him, I just don't agree with his opinion.  He's probably better than Irvin.
Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

BTW
did anyone notice that Keyshawn picked the 49ers to win yesterday?  That made me feel a little more comfortable heading into the game.

oh and to continue the list
I actually enjoy Mike and Mike (Greenberg and Golic).
Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Greenberg was terriable on MNF
he seems to smug to me

heh
I thought being smug was a basic requirement for being an sports announcer or commentator...

And more Harold Reynolds.
God, that period without him or Gammons on BBTN was absolutely horrible.

Kudos on Scott van Pelt and John Anderson
I was lucky enough to bum a ticket off a friend to this kickoff luncheon to the FDR Open down here in Phoenix. Those two were flown in to be the MC's of the event. They were hilarious, ripping on their employer, "The Best Damn Sports Show Ever" (which is broadcasting from the Open this year), Aaron Baddeley's shirt, etc. Seriously, they made me rethink my hatred of all things ESPN.

Oh, and Steve Young was at that event too, apologizing for the MNF Seahawks/49ers (this event was last Wednesday), saying, quite rightly, that he just couldn't get behind Seattle since they seemed to perennially underachieve every year.

by Eegah on Nov 13, 2007 5:36 PM PST up reply actions

Steve had that one right
That's about the best way to describe Seattle's performance the last couple years..

by cooshawkfan on Nov 13, 2007 8:21 PM PST up reply actions

Yep. Couldn't argue with him.
He's one of the talking heads who actually knows what's going on with the west coast teams. Picked us in the Super Bowl. When he says something about the Hawks, I, at the very least, pay attention, if not buy into it.

by Eegah on Nov 14, 2007 1:17 PM PST up reply actions

Well...
he still has a man-crush on the Walrus. I take what he says (especially about the Seahawks) with a giant grain of salt.

Keyshawn Johnson, I find his commentary to be shallow and pedantic

Okay Peter Griffin.
But I do agree with you.
