Pro Quality. Fan Perspective.
Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

Thank you John Morgan!

I have recently realized something:  this site is freakin awesome!!

I don't mean this just as hyperbole or natural hometown pride.  I mean that this site is objectively better than the others.  Since this news is a recent discovery of mine I thought there might be other people here who don't realize exactly how lucky Seahawks fans are to have this place, hence this diary.

How did I make this realization?

Star-divide

Of course anyone coming here can recognize that this is a great site.  Frequent posts, inciteful analysis, responsive to the community.  I saw all that right away.  But there is more.

This site's great analysis of SA's declining play allowed me to make a critical trade in my fantasy league for MoMo (Mecury rising?) right before the 'phantom' injury to SA.  After that I had the brilliant idea of scouring all the SBN blogs for other teams to get the inside track on smart fantasy moves.  By reading these blogs I would gain insightful information into players and teams around the league just like I get about the Seahawks.  Even if I didn't get fantasy advice, I'd surely become a football genius!

Wrong.  I went to the Bears blog to try to find out if there was a Benson/Peterson controversy going on in that city.  Not only did I not find much runningback discussion, I didn't find much analysis at all.  Undaunted I went to the Colts blog, the Rams . . .

What I found opened my eyes.  Most of these blogs are just places where the moderator makes comments and observations that anyone could make.  About record, playoff hopes, general fan frustration or joy.  They looked like blogs that I could write, or you could write.  Where were the post game break-downs?  the pre-game matchups?  Where were the diagrams of key blitzing plays, the analysis of offensive line play broken down by individual player? ... it wasn't there.

That's when I realize that we are really lucky here.  Anytime I run into a Seahawks fan (since I'm living in DC right now we tend to stand out in sports bars) I tell them to go here.

Mostly I wrote this diary cause I figure there are a lot of poeple who don't go to other sports blogs (I never did, besides Lookoutlanding, another great site) and that people here might not realize how unique John Morgan's quality analysis is.

o, and to say thank you.  The time put into this place is appreciated.  I'm assuming that this gig doesn't pay big dollars nor land super model girlfriends (if it does, then I retract all praise and a scathing criticism filled diary will follow shortly).

for visitors from other blogs, this isn't meant to insult your blogs in anyway, just to compliment this one

Hey thanks.
I appreciate the, uh, appreciation. It's just the nature of a blog that everyone takes it their own way, and I think comparing Field Gulls to many of the other SB sites is apples and oranges. They do what they do very well.

And no, there isn't really any pay, but my finacee's pretty hot!

Seconded
I'm more well versed in advanced baseball analysis, and until this season followed football like the way the other blogs you mention do.  I knew players, teams, strategies, etc., but at a very general level.  I started reading Field Gulls this season and have learned a lot about the finer complexities of the game and now watch with a greater understanding and appreciation for it.

Thanks John.

Likewise
The site's been a great way for me to learn more about football. Where, John Morgan, did you acquire your technical knowledge of the game?

Snuffleupagus: I'm also a DC 'hawks fan. Is there a designated Seahawks bar out here?

not that I've found
I live near Dupont and watch the games at Buffalo Billiards since they have enough TVs to always have the Hawks game prominently displayed somewhere.  Every week there are a few Seahawks fans there but I seem to be the only regular.

DC Hawks
I spent four years in DC before, blessedly, returning to the Pacific Northwest.  I had the pleasure of watching the Vinny Testaverde non-touchdown at a sports bar near the then-MCI Center.  My buddy (also from Oregon) and I were the only Seahawks fans there.

There are (or at least were) no Seahawks sports bars.  I know the Beavers and Ducks fans always used to go to Summers in NoVa, so perhaps they have an affinity for PNW teams.  Dunno though.

Bet that town's in mourning for Sean Taylor.  They do love their Redskins.
