Game Day Open Thread - Week 15: Seattle at Carolina

at
December 16, 10:00am Pacific
Bank Of America Stadium
FOX

It's a rematch of the 2005-06 NFC Championship game, drama quotient much lessened. Not sure who's starting at QB for the Panthers -- either relative newbie Matt Moore, or Wilford Brimley.

Commentary here and at our Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, which incidentally is my favorite blog title in this whole SBN ecosystem. Let's see who's really Double Live Gonzo, and who will suffer a Death By Misadventure. Wango Tango. Wango Tango, indeed.

(Apologies to all those born after 1975. I don't feel we got to ch-ch-ch-change.)

Fixed.
Just to prove how carried away I can get: In the HTML I mistakenly linked to "catscratchfever.com"... heh, oops.

Good thing that wasn't already taken...
by something unwholesome, eh?

Not taken period, it looks like
The Nuge better take up his crossbow and do somethin' about that.

heading up to charlotte right now...
i'll try to put up some "field's eye view" comments tonight when i get back.

i sure hope our guys come out with their foot on the gas rather than with their foot on cruise control.

Guh, Shrug, the Nuge has no generation...
just a trail of animal corpses in his wake.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 6:43 AM PST   0 recs

not wearing my Hasselbeck today
Gotta save it for the playoffs.

This game probably means nothing, I highly doubt we catch Green bay, but I would still like a W.  10 wins just feels so much better than 9.

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

by MFAN on Dec 16, 2007 9:10 AM PST   0 recs

Moore is relaxed...
what is the guy, dead? I'd be puking my guts out.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 9:48 AM PST   0 recs

I really should just sleep in for this game
But god dam NE and CLE weather is fucking my fantasy teams. I actually benched Brady this week.
V. 1.0, mutherf***er, know what I'm sayin'?

by Scruffy Lefty on Dec 16, 2007 9:53 AM PST   0 recs

Not too much football left.
For no good reason, I'm really looking forward to this game.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 9:56 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Field Gulls
Needs a pre-game show.  The hungover analysis and extensive discussion of Brian Russell, Boone Stutz, and Josh Scobey would be so much better than the crapola on Fox.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 9:58 AM PST   0 recs

Christian Fauria
That's what he's doing these days.  Long career.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:05 AM PST   0 recs

well that didnt work
Gray.
Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

pitch to the short side on 3rd and short
perhaps my least favorite play call ever

by Dids on Dec 16, 2007 10:09 AM PST   0 recs

Wow.
Yeah, let's run a short yardage play in Gray's general direction.

Hell if the Panther's farted in Gray's general direction he'd move out of the way...

by PositivePaul on Dec 16, 2007 10:10 AM PST   0 recs

yay
Seahawks can't get one yard on two tries, and on defense they give up a gigantic pass play already.

Great stuff, really.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:12 AM PST   0 recs

Huh, didn't expect that.
Who's starting at FS?

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 10:13 AM PST   0 recs

Terrill
Was four yards into the backfield on that run play.  Screwed it up for the Panthers.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:13 AM PST   0 recs

Well shit.
I wake up and see Shaun lose yards (Due to Chris Gray) and Mo lose yards (due to a bad play call and Chris Gray) and then that huge pass?  And that near TD?  This is an ugly way to awaken.

by BrettJMiller on Dec 16, 2007 10:14 AM PST   0 recs

Jennings!!!
Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

by MFAN on Dec 16, 2007 10:14 AM PST   0 recs

by MFAN on Dec 16, 2007 10:14 AM PST   0 recs

holy crap
How hard is the wind blowing in Carolina today?  Damn.

I thought Kasay was still money.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:15 AM PST   0 recs

dotcom
For the record, the NFL Gamecenter application sez there's an 18-mph wind coming from the southwest.
Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:16 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Phwhwewh.
Bullet.  Dodged.

JOHN KASAY (Josh Brown is better than you)

by PositivePaul on Dec 16, 2007 10:15 AM PST   0 recs

So even though Mo go more carries last week
Shaun's still functionally starting?

Is this trying to make Shaun feel better, or has Mike really not learned?

by Dids on Dec 16, 2007 10:18 AM PST   0 recs

Hmmm.
Holmgren + Alexander:: Hargrove + Ibanez

by PositivePaul on Dec 16, 2007 10:20 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

God I hate Fox.

by MFAN on Dec 16, 2007 10:18 AM PST   0 recs

What happened?
Can we get a replay? I want to see that Branch incompletion.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 10:18 AM PST   0 recs

Wake up
Seahawks.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:19 AM PST   0 recs

frabjous day
Good day to have consecutive three-and-outs.

This was like any week leading up to a game involving the Panthers, except without Sean Salisbury doing some obligatory Jake Delhomme ballwashing.

Sheesh, this is an icky start.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:19 AM PST   0 recs

Branch
Was juggling the ball as he went out of bounds from what I saw.

Less Shaun plz

by Dids on Dec 16, 2007 10:20 AM PST   0 recs

Running game is once again a shaun suckfest.
Redhead's pretty cute in the Verizon commercial.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 10:21 AM PST   0 recs

Haha
Steve Smith.  They should let Moore throw the ball downfield.  He's playing well.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:23 AM PST   0 recs

btw
CBS's score ticker doesn't include this game.

Another eff-you.

Dear Announcer Guy
Shutting out a guy all day cannot be a turning point.

by Dids on Dec 16, 2007 10:24 AM PST   0 recs

pass prowess
For as bad as Seattle's offense has been today, Pittsburgh has racked up minus-9 passing yards against the Jaguars so far.
Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

I think that Bills/Browns game might actually be taking place in Siberia.  Can't see yardmarkers worth a crap on that field.

Thank you for being you.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:33 AM PST   0 recs

I love when Alexander splits wide...
I mean I hate it because it's stupid, but it's funny how the defense just sort of ignores him.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 10:33 AM PST   0 recs

holy shit

how often does the end round work in the damn NFL?

They can't stop the short passing game, why help them?

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

by wadswerth on Dec 16, 2007 10:36 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

but hey...
He got velocity on his snaps.

That's just as good as the reason Bill Bavasi picked up Ramon Santiago a couple years ago: "he can pick it up and throw it."

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:38 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

This is inspired...
as soon as the play calling gets its head out of its ass, the Hawks should come alive.

by John Morgan on Dec 16, 2007 10:36 AM PST   0 recs

plaque
Nice result there from Plackemeier.

Of course, the likelihood of good Plackemeier punts in the next quarter against the prevailing wind is probably not good.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by wackomann on Dec 16, 2007 10:36 AM PST   0 recs

Is he that dumb?
Actually we just got a first down just like a minute ago.

Foster fumbles
that calls for the surprised face.

by MFAN on Dec 16, 2007 10:38 AM PST   0 recs

Classic fox
Fumble on the play and let' see...

ten seconds left on the clock, and that WILL BE the last play of the first quarter.

Because that fact is what people were wondering about.

This game is putting me in a surly mood.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:38 AM PST   0 recs

dammit
Bad time for Carolina to get their first third-down conversion of the day.

by jeager on Dec 16, 2007 10:46 AM PST   0 recs

It's not that I don't want them to run with Shaun
It's that I don't want them to not run with not Shaun.

there we go
running w/o Shaun!!
