Game Day Open Thread: Patriots-Giants

The Harlem Globetrotters take on the Washington Gen-- I mean, the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants tonight.

In light of the historical importance of this game -- I believe Winston Churchill will be signing something on field at halftime -- I thought we'd have a little game thread here in case people wanna document this.

Of course you may also go to Pats Pulpit or Big Blue View as well.

I don't.
But I'm bored of 'em already.

I hate frontrunners
and if you look up frontrunner in the sports dictionary there's a picture of Randy Moss.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

remember,
-1 for the NE defense might be the key to your defeat.

write that one down as my prediction.

I digress about washington....
Washington Post calls Seahawks 'eminently beatable'
here
"If the Redskins can't finish their December heroics against the 'Pokes [cowboys], it'll be a double shame because the team they would face in the first round of the playoffs, the Seahawks, is eminently beatable, even in Seattle. Whenever the Seahawks face a winning team, or even a patsy on the road, they have their hands full."

Sad they are more afraid of Cowboys, even w/o T.O. --but the high scoring offense always is scary. --Something we can't say we have with as much consistency... Hopefully Seahawks do showcase their high-powered offense in the post-season.

heard much the same thing in '05
The D.C media loves the Redskins. In '05 they were drooling over them because they'd won the last few games of the regular season plus "gutting out" that awful offensive game vs. Tampa.

Of course the Seahawks are beatable, but I just don't see anything the Redskins bring to the table for the upset.

Moss hits a wall
That was awkward-- he basically ran into a guy who was doing his best statue imitation.

Refs suck
That was not a flagrant celebration. Ok, a tiny bit...but with those records being set, they should have looked the other way. The corner ref stands there aghast that his holy space was being invaded. Shameful.

Patriots Pokem
Patriot (Milfury?) poked Giant in the eye. Nice.

that was Wilfork
He'll have a nice penalty coming his way from the commissioner's office...

Giants playing game of their lives
Almost hate for them to expend all this energy for little return -- oh wait they are going to gain 'momentum', we know how critical that is. Yah, thats it.

What's our criteria?
Hateability? I like Romo better then.
--Shrug

by Shrug on Dec 29, 2007 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

Sorry Robert.
I've got to agree that Brady is much, much, much more hateable.  He's like Romo in personality, just better at being a QB.

by BrettJMiller on Dec 29, 2007 9:42 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree
Romo's personality is totally different from Brady's at this point. Romo's still got that childlike thing about him. Brady's a great player, but looks about as grave about his mission as his coach does. Every press conference I've seen them do this year, they look and act like they're talking about a tragic accident on the open-heart surgery table. Romo's at least acknowledging that he's having fun.

oh well
It'll make some AFC team's playoff victory that much sweeter.

Or us?

Give credit to the Patriots, if you give them an inch they take advantage. Congrats to the Patriots.

Pats earned it.
They played and beat very impressive AFC teams which were all gunning for them, including the Giants to get 16 - 0. Can't grudge or qualify there record at all.

by paul2 on Dec 29, 2007 8:36 PM PST reply actions

despite all that,
we still hate them, their smugness, and their idiot fans.

They are smug.
I'll grant you that. They definitely are very self-aware about how how momentous this whole thing is. See above comment re: Romo vs. Brady.
