Darrell Jackson Trade Falls Through

The trade that would have netted us a 1st round pick and two additional 3rd round picks for D-Jack along with our 2nd round pick (detailed here) has fallen through. Time for all you Hawk fans to put your thinking caps and negotiating shoes on, because we need to figure out who we can trade him to and what sort of value we can get from him--and fast.

I've sent out feelers to a couple sites, but would greatly appreciate any help.

Specifically, Shrug, who's handling the drafting for San Diego?

hmm
Todd McShay lists Cleveland, Detriot, and Washington as all needing WRs.  Perhaps we can trade DJack straight up for their 2nd round pick?

Chicago also could use a reciever like Jackson, but I don't think they would want to trade their first pick for him.

Cleveland yes
Detroit?  Maybe.  But I think their fanbase may riot.

Washington has Moss, Randle El, so I think a 2nd round pick may be a little high.

I was thinking of asking Oakland.  DJ and our 3rd rounder for their 2nd and 3rd?

McShay is wrong
Listing the Redskins as WR needy is an attempt to cover bases, as Joe Gibbs has intimated the Redskins may trade up to draft Calvin Johnson. Beyond that, the Redskins aren't taking any wide receivers (and they aren't taking Johnson, either).

It's not just Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El, but also Brandon Lloyd. Randle-El and Lloyd have combined 60M contracts or, in other words, both are paid #2 WR moneys. Don't forget about James Thrash, either.

Jackson is not going to Washington.

I'm working the boards right now...
instead of writing an article. I've posted at Dawgs By Nature, Niners Nation, Daily Norseman and now Pride of Detroit.

I'm trying to make this Mock a little more interesting for Hawk fans and would love any help I can get.

so it goes

Trade Him!
I say trade him for the heck of it just to make the mock draft interesting.

Cards at #38 Pick
My understanding is that the second round so far has gone: Oakland: Miller, Detroit Macauley, Tampa Davis, Cleveland, Kalil and the Jets
(fr Wash) Griffin.

If this, in fact, is the case, the Cardinals take
the top guy on their Board, Miami safety, Brandon Meriweather.

When Cleveland and the Jets were on the clock, the Cards  had three top prospects still on our mini-board* (in order): Meriweather, David
Harris (ILB Michigan) and Ryan Kalil C (USC). (We'll fess up. We originally rated Texas safety Michael Griffin higher than Kalil "but on closer scrutiny" got nervous about his inconsistent performance and ability to master the mental aspects of playing FS in the pros, so we moved Kalil ahead of Griffin, but it didn't matter anyway since both were removed from the board when we picked).

The Cardinals are set at SS with Adrian Wilson. Aaron Francisco (originally an UDFA) was recently promoted to FS. He has demonstrated that he is solid and reliable at the position but is no
superstar. Ideally, behind an aggressive "mix & match  defense with a front seven consisting of interchangeable players assuming numerous
false looks and different roles (& that flies to the ball from every conceivable angle) you'd want a game breaker back in centerfield who's
fast enough to get to the sidelines to help a CB in man coverage handle deep throws. Meriweather's forty time is a pretty respectable 4.47. He's athletic enough to play some corner if called upon (either as a backup or in a disguised coverage) and has an aggressive "in your face" approach to coverage that even many CB's will envy. We rated him our #1 safety (above Nelson and Landry) on our over all Board going
into the draft. There are some character issues that need to be addressed, but they don't reflect any problems with work ethic and
don't appear chronic.

*(How the Mini Board Works - The Cardinals had 33 picks between their first selection at #5 and their next at #38. The mini-board ranked
"the 33 players who could most help our football team" - a Best Player Available concept that also builds into each rating:  "filling a
roster need" and "fit with team culture and position profile". Accordingly, each new pick causes us to update our ratings, because
our position-need situation will change each time we pick).

It sounds like the Niners are interested.
We would send them D-Jack and a 2008 3rd round pick. They send us a their 2nd round pick and a 2nd or 3rd round pick next year depending on D-Jack's performance. I think it's a fair trade, what do you guys think?
so it goes

Mock Draft vs. Real Draft
In real life I would be unsure on this trade. As much as I think we should trade D-Jack because of the surplus of WR the Hawks have I just can't send him to the 49ers. The 49ers are very close to becoming a playoff team and will challenge the Hawks this year. So I say if the 49ers are interested in trading for him in this mock draft do it. But if this trade comes up in the real draft I say no.

i think we have to
do it.

DJack and an 08 third rounder for basically two second rounders, one in 07 one in 08.  I hate to lose him to a division opponent, but the value of two second round picks against one more year of Jackson...

gotta do it.

John Morgan
I was reading the comments between you and the 49ers. I think the more you haggle with them the more they won't do the trade. As much as it would be cool to work out real life details it just is to hard when this is a mock draft. Do the hawk fans a favor that read this blog and make the trade. Thanks.

2nd And 7th
At the rate this draft is going I don't think we'll get past the 3rd round. So we should just trade for a 2nd straight up.

Morgan, are you....
...in touch with the rest of the traders in the league? If so, you have total permission to be our Ruskell -- I'm really cramped for time over the next couple days. Lemme know...

Thanks...
