Open Discusion: Pick 85
So after working on a piece I wanted to post for about an hour I sort of lost my motivation like, say, Calvin Johnson or Amobi Okoye might have today. Go figure. Instead, I thought we could open up the discussion about what we should do with our 85th selection in the third round. It's increasingly looking like it will be our next and last pick in the SB Mock draft, and having taken a running back in the second we are not without our needs. I'll leave the discussion without commentary, but I'm interested to see who everyone comes up with.

I say look for the best TE available
Yeah
For OG, I'd love to get Marshal Yanda from Iowa or Josh Beekman from BC if possible. Andy Alleman from Akron is ok, as apparently his "stock is soaring" into the 1st day.
For DT, I'm going to assume Turk McBride from Tennessee is gone, so I kind of like Tank Tyler though ESPN has him listed as having Character, Mental, and Speed problems. Because of this, I'd say just pass on him. Brandon Mebane from California is good and a "ruskell guy" because he works hard and has good leadership qualities. And Quinn Pitcock from Ohio State would be fine too.
So I'd love to get Yanda and Beekman, or maybe Mebane, because I can see getting a developmental TE later like Allan being fine especially with Pollard and possibilities for 3wr sets more often
Well nvm about
Oh I forgot
Anyways, just wanted to mention him because he went to my high school, and gotta have highschool pride.
5 Players To Draft
- Ben Patrick TE - Good all around athlete who can run good routes and has great hands. I think TE is our bigest need because Polland is old and could get hurt. If Patrick is gone it is best to address the OG need we have because the rest of the TE are not worth our 3rd rounder.
- Josh Beekman OG - Fundamentally sound and plays hard every game. This will add the much needed depth and talent our O-line needs.
- Manuel Ramirez OG - Incredibly strong with a huge frame to go with it. He will do great in the run. Once again we need depth at O-line.
- Marshal Yanda OG - A solid technician who has starting experience at both guard and tackle. If these three OG are gone which I doubt then I would move to our last need DT.
- Turk McBride DT - Is very quick off the snap and has experience at both DT and DE. Would add great depth at our D-line.

Oh yeah, in McShay's draft, we get TE Ben Patrick in 3rd, OG Andy Alleman in 4th, and CB DeAndre Jackson in 5th (though we could've gotten Manuel Ramirez who was taken a few picks later)
Oh and also depending where he should go
For a TE I really like Joe Newton from Oregon State
Patrick and Newton
I wouldn't mind Newton in the 5th
Too lazy to check other sites but here's there summary on him
"Newton is a tall, sure-handed receiving target in the short-to-intermediate zones. He gives a solid effort as a blocker and he is an instinctive pass-catcher. However, Newton's lack of speed, bulk and strength significantly limit his NFL potential. Furthermore, his history of injuries is a major turn off. In our opinion, Newton is an overrated prospect that likely will never emerge as anything more than a backup in the NFL. He should slip to the fifth or sixth round of the 2007 draft."
