Posted by Mike Sando @ 06:00:40 pm
Players expected to sign free-agent contracts with Seattle: WR Joe Fernandez, Fresno State; FS Patrick Ghee, Wake Forest; RB Kenny James, Washington; LB Cameron Jensen, BYU; C Nick Jones, Georgia; DB Tim Mixon, Cal; TE Joe Newton, Oregon State; WR Logan Payne, Minnesota; P Kyle Stringer, Boise State; DE Nu'u Tafisi, Cal; and SS C.J. Wallace, Washington.
--I really like the Mixon, Newton, Tafisi, and Wallace signings.
A place to bury strangers.

Sweet
Dunno the other guys, but if they're as good as the first two, must be good

I figured they would sign Newton
Funny thing is I wanted Newton for TE all along so this draft went pretty well in my eyes

I know some might disagree, but I really REALLY like the Jordan Kent pick. This guy is a great athlete with excellent work ethic, I don't think he ever got a chance to be fully devoted to football at Oregon considering he was an outstanding track runner and played basketball.
He's got great size at 6'5 210 and as I mentioned is a tremendous athlete all around. Let's not forget that he never even played football until is junior year at Oregon (maybe Sophomore). He's an academic all-american, very smart and will be commited to learning the system. He'll be a project and is probably 2 years away from really contributing, I have a feeling that in 3 or 4 years we are all going to be Jordan Kent fans.
Also a quick comment on D-Jack. I am starting to warm up to the trade, I still don't like trading him to a division rival, but I don't think it was a terrible deal either. I expect D-jacks numbers to drop a bit in San Fran, he'll be playing opposite to Ashley Lelie and Arnez Battle as opposed to Deon Branch and DJ Hackett (and B-easy). The QB could be a factor for Jackson as well, im actually not real high on Alex Smith and unless he really breaks out this season, Hasselbeck > Smith. With that said Jackson is a very solid pick-up for the 49ers and if healthy he could really help take a lot of pressure off Frank Gore.
I like D-jack a lot, but I always felt that he was kind of a product of the system (I could be VERY wrong) so we will have to wait and see how he does. Sando made a great point about the trade, if seattle wins the division no one will question the d-jack deal and it will look like everything worked out fine, if SF wins the division and Jackson has a big year everyone will call for Ruskell's head.
