Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

a pair of becks?

Just saw on yahoo...

The Seattle Seahawks are still in search of a third quarterback, a "flexible situation," as coach Mike Holmgren called it Monday. He has never started a season without three and indicated that a third quarterback would be added before too long.

Among the possibilities are Gibran Hamdan, who was the third quarterback in Seattle while Matt Hasselbeck was unable to play because of injury last season, and Hasselbeck's brother Tim, who was released by the New York Giants last week.

"That would be a dream come true for me," Hasselbeck said when asked about the idea of his brother coming to Seattle.

Intriguing.
Does this mean we'll be seeing Elisabeth at the local Gay Pride parades?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few drag
queens dressed like her. Funny thing is I don't think it will bother Elisabeth much. I don't remember who said this (Robert Smigel?) but I was watching the SNL best of the nineties retro and they had all these snippets of the show's writers. One said that Republicans always took parody with good humor, but that the Democrats would always get offended--like they felt betrayed or whatever. When he said that, it sort of stuck with me because it's not something that you would necessarily expect, but it sort of made sense.

It makes total sense.
When I saw Billy Bragg in concert years and years ago -- Bragg's about as left-wing as a rational guy can possibly get -- he teased his way-liberal audience: "You guys remember what humor is, right?"

I have never personally known a Republican who couldn't take a joke. Then again they've all been West Coast Republicans, who are a little different breed. But yeah. Part of my disaffection with those of my particular philosophical stripe is that they've forgotten how to be funny. They take themselves waaaay too seriously. Thank God for Jon Stewart.

And yet
Nearly all comedians, entertainers, and humorists are liberals.

I don't get it.
