Scout.com: Dorsey Visits Kirkland

As the search for a veteran backup QB enters Year Two, Scout.com reports that Ken Dorsey has visited the Kirkland headquarters (subscription) at some point in the last day or so.

Maybe you're asking yourself, "Is there irony?"

The irony is that Dorsey, San Francisco's seventh-round draft pick in 2003, was traded to Cleveland for former Seattle backup and Matt Hasselbeck mentor Trent Dilfer in May of 2006. Dorsey played in one game and attempted one pass in 2006.
With the Browns prepping for the Age of Quinn by slowly ramping down the Era of Frye, Dorsey was released by Cleveland last week.

A bit too early to order your Dorsey Seahawks jerseys.

Isn't that more a coincidence than irony?
I don't see much difference between Dorsey and whoever will be available if we ever need a third string quarterback. Probably not worth the roster spot.

Considering he started four years at Miami, his late seventh round selection tells you much of what scouts thought of him.

Hmm.
Yeah, maybe Alanis Morrisette wrote that item.

Unless the Hawks are again throwing around scenarios involving Seneca as a more frequently used option as receiver, I'm inclined to agree with you.

draft postion smaft position
Quality qb's can fall into the late rounds of the draft, im not saying dorsey is one of those qb's but still, beck, bulger and brady were all 6th round draft picks.

While i would hate to waste a roster spot on him i was wondering if beck went down and then wallace had to come out for a couple of plays in a game who then would qb for us?  If it were the chargers lt could probably run qb for a couple of plays and turner could be the rb.  But the hawks i dont know who could be thrown in for a couple plays.

But if it came down to needing a 3rd stringer to start a game i do think we could find another qb as good as dorsey and not waste a spot on dorsey.

Dorsey
Dorsey is way better than people give him credit for. He performed better than the rest of those career 3rd stringers vying for the Browns starting job. (Dorsey had a 90QB rating, the rest were low 70's... besides Quinn) so I hope we land KD. The Seahawks and the Raiders are my two loves, and I was hoping KD could land with one of them in a backup role.

Qb rating isn't a great tool, and in the preseason
on 18 attempts, half in garbage time, it means nothing. It's more telling that Dorsey didn't even play in the Browns final two preseason games. Especially whence considering his competition was Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye. Dorsey has a career 53.9 completion percentage and a weak arm. I don't think Ken Dorsey's value over another player who could be signed out of free agency in case of crisis outweighs the value of anyone currently on the Seahawks 53.

the guys arm has a wet blanket attached to it

Ah, you guys...
His arm isn't no where near as bad as you think. You read it somewhere and it sticks with you.

No his arm is terriable
All his yards he threw for in Miami were just toss outs to Andre Johnson and Willis McGahee that were turned into 30 yard completions because of YAC.

Jason Gesser out threw him in the throwing compition that they do for College seniors. Dorsey had 3 throws to throw it as far as he could and land it inbetween the college has marks. None of his throws went for 50 yards and he was 0/3 on the accuracy part.

Then when they did the accuracy test he finished dead last throwing to a WR that wasn't covered by anyone. Missing him left and right.

Dorsey is a smart guy and has good leadership qualities and maybe the WCO can cover up his weak throwing arm. But I would still like the find someone else

Well
He weighed 200 pounds coming out of college. He weighs 220 now, maybe, just MAYBE a little of that went to his arm.

No.
I saw him play some games for San Francisco. His arm is awful.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

Did you guys forget?
From his wikipedia...

In a week 11 game against the Seattle Seahawks, Dorsey led an inspired comeback and was a 2 point conversion away from sending the week 11 game into overtime.

Did you guys forget? Because obviously, the coaches didn't. Ken Dorsey almost sent our superbowl team into OT.
