Quick note for Packers fans

The sole mention of "We want the ball, and we're gonna score!" does *not* melt Hawks fans into a catatonic, drooling heap of shame and embarrassment.

Irregardless (er, regardless) of the fact that the targeted WR ran the wrong route, that it was 4 years ago, and that Matt has matured immensely as a QB, if you want to tell us why a Lambeau victory is inevitable, could you just be so kind and mention the words "Brett Favre" or "Greg Jennings" or "Aaron Kampman"? Or use any argument that mentions current performance?

Ahem. Thanks. Here's to a good game next weekend.

I'm glad
Matt said that back then.  It fired me up when he did.  I assume it had a similar effect on his fellow players.  That will be one of the sub-stories for this week.  The other, by far predominant, plot line will be:

Brett Favre's resurgence.  That will be the nearly exclusive focus.

Then there will be:

Holmgren coming back to GB (AGAIN). [Insert shot of sign for Holmgren Way/Street/Boulevard/Place, if it's still there].

Then there will be:

Hasselbeck playing against the guy who used to start in front of him, i.e. Favre.

I can't help it.  I love it that no one gives a rip about our Hawks.  It breeds a certain resentment.  I think it does with the players, too.  There's something right about that, way up here in the upper-left-hand corner of our country.

Go you Seahawks!

Beck's awesome
Post game press conference his first comment was

"Let's get this out of the way right now.  We want the ball, we're going to score.  Is that okay?"

DAMNIT!

it fired me up too
I don't think about him saying it much, honestly, until the media brings it up, which I guess means I'll be thinking about it a lot coming this week.

But I do remember it and it does bring back a visceral, burning memory of that game and the lack of respect that Favre's understudy would bring to his former home-field. I couldn't believe he opened his mouth and said that, it was like Randy Moss mooning us, or Warren Sapp smashing Chad Clifton from behind on the dirtiest hit the NFL has ever seen. Ultimately, Matt paid the price, Harris read the throw, and #8 was chasing his season down the sideline.

I do give a rip about Seattle, though, they're a tough team thats built a lot like ours. Speed and playmakers. I hate you for signing Patrick. I hate you for giving us Marquand. I hate Matt for saying a dumb quote that will live in infamy for all time regarding things Packer/Seahawk related. It should be a great game!

trash talk
Irregardless isn't a word. And declaring something a fact doesn't make it so. IIRC, the receiver originally stated that he might have run the route a yard or two deep OR Harris made a great play on the ball. That's evolved into running the wrong route.

It was silly trash talk and he made a stupid throw. I'd be glad if it bothered him, but it probably just makes him more focused. Besides you could make quite a highlight reel of Favre's out route interceptions.

Credit to Al Harris then.

The American Heritage Dictionary says irregardless is a word "that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing." Yes, it's a word. It's a double negative though so I actually suggested that Packers fans consider those things....

I'll note it.

Following that logic...
"ain't" is a word as well.

by olpete on Jan 6, 2008 8:34 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I could care less if ain't is
considered a word or not. That whole debate makes me nauseous.

Agreed.
Curse prescriptive grammarians.

unirregardless,
it ain't grammar to help a person not say something nonsensical.

by olpete on Jan 7, 2008 6:11 PM PST   0 recs

whoa
my brain just exploded.

Walter Jones, you were the greatest, most dominant player I've ever seen at any position. It's been an honor to be your fan.
