A few Questions with... JScott, Bucs Blogger
Hello Seahawks fans, JScott here from Buc 'Em welcoming you to Buccaneers-Seahawks week. As part of the cross-blogging that will be going on all week between Buc 'Em and Field Gulls, we figured we would create these FanPosts on each others sites to answer any questions that were out there about each team.
Got a Bucs question? Let 'er rip! I look forward to a great game Sunday. I know the Seahawks arent where you thought they would be (?), but the NFL is full of surprises! Good luck, and ask me any questions about the Bucs, the game, etc!
I'll check back in regularly to get those questions answered!

Yeah, so the Bucs are going to win hands down.
Hasselbeck is out for this game.
Uh, questions…
What’s the future for QBs for the Bucs?
by redwolf75 on Oct 13, 2008 6:25 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Obviously Garcia is going to retire soon.
Do you think Grise (sp?) can be your starting QB going forward for the next half-decade?

I like how you answered your own question with another question :)

The future is in
Div-IAA QB Josh Johnson’s hands. Gruden loves the guys football I.Q., accuracy, and mobility. He looked good in the Pre-Season, but that was the Pre-Season. He’s currently on the sidelines with clipboard in hand as old men rivers in Griese and Garcia finish out their careers.
Barring injury, i think Griese and/or Garcia start for the Bucs next season, but JJ may up end them to finish the year….
The future is truly unknown though at the Quarterback position so long as Gruden is at the helm…

What are your thoughts on the RB situation?
Dunn or Graham? When is Cadillac coming back if ever? Is Graham really being used part time as a FB?
Galloway ever coming back? Does it even matter, since Bryant is pretty good, and so is Clayton when he’s not dropping the ball.
Griese or Garcia? Or are they just interchangeable?

As a follow-up question, whatever the hell happened to Cadillac?
He had an awesome rookie year, then just sort of disappeared. Was it the injuries, or was it something else? Same deal with Michael Clayton.
by Benne on Oct 13, 2008 11:51 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Caddy's drop off is primarily due
to the injuries he’s endured. Michael Clayton is another issue altogether. He simply can’t hold onto the ball. He’s gets overly cocky in games and quite frankly is full of himself. He made a tackle on special teams this weekend and was seen rubbing his fingers together on the sideline insinuating he should get paid… the guy is a joke. i would love for him to light the world on fire in a Bucs jersey, but he can’t hang on to the ball… it’ll be interesting to see how Free Agency treats him this off-season

Warrick Dunn for the time being
is the starter at RB, Earnest Graham moved over to FB this past weekend and with B.J. Askew in no shape to return it appears Graham will serve as the team’s FB for a second week in a row… The RB situation this year has been a joy to watch as both rushers have averaged over 5 yards a carry. Initially we thought the addition of Warrick Dunn was based on nostalgia reasons, but he has been very productive…
Caddy is a year removed from destroying ligaments in his knee. The Bucs are currently in a precautionary period with Cadillac. He just got off the PUP List (this week) and the Bucs have 3 weeks to include him in team practices and another three weeks after he begins to practice to determine whether to keep him on the active roster…. Barring injuries i think the Bucs will let Caddy sit this season out, as the production thus far at RB has been more than sufficient…
there’s talks of Galloway coming back this week, something about wanting to play against his previous employer (ugh). I think he will return, but hope its because he’s ready and not because he wants to beat on the Seahawks. He’s earned the right to take it slowly though as much as it pains the fan base and his coaches Galloway would be a great addition to the Receiving Corps, although he’s susceptible to injury at this point in his career, he is still the fastest and most capable WR we have… He’s sorely missed.
Garcia will certainly start, Griese has yet to practice since the hit against Denver. Once he returns, so long as Garcia puts ’W’s in the win column, Griese will sit the bench

I swear I saw a smoking section in what looked like a beer garden in tampa's stadium
Can you guys smoke inside your stadium while watching the game? I quit a few months ago, but always hated that qwest has no smoking section, I don’t understand whats wrong with giving the smokers a small area to call there own instead of sneaking off into stairways and ramp?
by collyb on Oct 13, 2008 11:34 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I'm guessing Florida doesn't have an indoor smoking ban like Washington does.
by Benne on Oct 13, 2008 11:52 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If I'm not mistaken
Tampa Bay also sells hard alcohol in their stadium.
by UW Alex on Oct 14, 2008 10:10 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Smoking is allowed
in certain designated areas. I know you can’t smoke on the lower levels, but I’m pretty certain you can smoke on the third levels deck….
Hard liquor is also sold in Raymond James Stadium not to the general public however only those in the luxury suites and club seats can purchase hard liquor. A year ago the liquor sale attempted to go stadium wide, but the city shut it down for obvious reasons…

Do the TB coaches let their QBs take their walkers with them onto the field?
by Benne on Oct 13, 2008 11:49 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
no but they are required
to wear velcro cleats, not so much to avoid tripping over untied shoelaces, its more in place to avoid long game stoppages due to the inability to completely tie their shoes due to old age

Being that the Seahawks and Bucs run similar defenses,
how would you compare your corners and safties to ours?
by PascoJoe on Oct 14, 2008 8:20 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
i gotta be honest
i don’t know the first thing about your Corners or Safety’s… I can tell you about ours however and how about you fill me in on whether yours compare:
Our Corners:
Ronde Barber: Despite his age he still delivers one of the hardest hits on the team. He has been susceptible to the big play this season. There’s three or four plays in which he slipped or fell and allowed his receiver to have a huge touchdown reception or gain tons of yardage. He has a sack on the season, has caused several fumbles, and as of late has cleaned up his act in turns of giving up splash plays…
Phillip Buchanon: He’s got great ball instincts and returned a tipped pass for a touchdown earlier in the season. For the most part he holds his own, especially when he drops into zone coverage, but in man coverage he tends to give the receiver too much of a cushion. He has turned in the better play for us at Corner thus far
Aqib Talib: our 1st round draft pick has been fun to watch. He got beat by the Saints in his first play and game of the season, but since then he has been as good as advertised. He has an interception and enjoys separating the Receiver from the ball. He’s far from lockdown, but he appears to be a stud in the future
Our Safetys:
This is actually our strongest and deepest position.
Jermaine Phillips: Is the hardest hitter on the team and he’s always looking to strip the ball. He has an interception and fumble recovery on the season. He’s above average in pursuit of the ball and batting down passes
Tanard Jackson: Probably the MVP of the secondary. He intercepts passes and rivals Phillips in the hardest hitter department. He’s only in his second season and he’s going to be scary good
Sabby Piscitelli: Is the feel good story of the year. He hurt his leg in his Rookie season last year and missed the majority of the season. This year he’s stepped in on nickel packages and has an interception to his name. He’s got a nose for the ball and can deliver the hard hit when need be. He’s been compared to John Lynch, but he’s got a lot to prove in order to make Bucs fans a believer in that comparison. He contributes on special teams as well and has caused a forced fumble in that role
so lets hear it for your side??

My take on the Seahawks secondary
Trufant is a really good to great cover corner.
Jennings has decent instincts, but can’t make up for his lack of size. He gets beat deap occasionally even though he gives way too much of a cushion most of the time.
Wilson has slightly worse coverage skills than Jennings, but much better speed and athleticism to make up for his lack of height.
Deon Grant is a solid safety in both coverage and run support. He does play a lot on the same side of the field as Trufant, leaving…
Brian Russell, our fourth string QB, to chase Jennings’ mistakes and look bad doing it. He has below average speed, athleticism, but supposedly has a good knowledge of the secondary. I think of Russell as if Jim Mora, Jr. himself was on the field (no speed, can’t cover) but knows where he should have been had he been capable of getting there.
Then there’s Babineaux. I don’t know what to say about him other than that he should play in front of Russell, but only because Russell sucks, not because Babs is good.
Correct me if you think I’m wrong, but this is my impression from what I’ve seen.

Hmmm
Trufant is great, but has had better years, I am seeing him struggle and getting beat a few times this year….
Jennings I agree has decent instincts…but gets beat constantly so probably not really that great, I think he may get beat more than anyone in the league.
Wilson has some potential but not great either, though I think some of it is because he is young.
Russell is the least involved Safety in the league, he does almost nothing for this team, he is slow, not extremely athletic (though more than me), and definately not hard hitting. He cant seem to pick do anything really well.
I agree with you on Babs, and think slightly less of Grant then you do, but close.
Our secondary looks bad….and needs a lot of improvement. Teams are passing on us with more ease than they are getting into the Paris Hilton back door entrance (In Vegas of Course)

The jury is most definitely still out on Wilson.
Nobody makes me more mad than people already labeling him as a “bust.”
Last year he played very little corner (and was injured a lot) — this is basically his first season getting a decent amount of playing time at the position.

People always seem to forget the learning curve
involved in playing CB at an NFL level.

Thats why I said he has potential and he is young.
Maybe I worded it bad, I meant he isn’t great yet, but he is young. I like him a lot more than Jennings at this point, though for some reason people like Jennings, I guess whats not to like about a CB that is constanting 5 steps behind?

Sorry if my post came out as criticizing you.
It wasn’t aimed at you at all.

our receivers wont beat you deep, deep
The 12-15 yard variety are more their speed unless of course Galloway takes the field, but then jam him once at the line really hard and he’ll fade into the back ground..
thanks for the insights guys
