2008 Seattle Seahawks: Upon further review...

At the end of the day, (1-5) will always be (1-5), good enough for the bottom of the NFC West, which is not known for its consistent strength. However, a quick glance at our losses sheds some light on a season's start that has been as disappointing as it has been unbelievable. Here are some noticeable silver linings:

     1) We lost to only one team with a losing record, which came in overtime.

     2) Our three road losses were to teams undefeated at home.

     3) With the exception of San Fran, we have only lost to teams that lead (or are tied for the lead) within their respective divisions. Three of the four have at least five wins.

We’re not losing to bad teams.  Furthermore, we’ve only lost one game within the division. The combined record of teams we’ve lost to: (21-12) 64% winning pct. And, to come… opponents combined record (28-28) 50% winning pct.  Four of six division games are still on the table, and the only division foe we play twice is three games ahead in 1st place. Arizona also has three East Coast trips remaining, all against teams with winning records. More importantly, Seattle has only one trip to the East Coast remaining, @ Miami (2-4), and four opponents who must fly from the East Coast to Seattle.

Hopefully the Rams and their recent turnaround have changed some your minds… because its not time to pack it in just yet.  We have our problems, every team does, and I’m not preaching visions of peaches and cream, because in all reality, its far fetched at best. But, we should at least hold the line, and have faith in our team and their ability (no matter how hard they may try to make us falter).

We have easily burnt off enough bad football karma in six games, to last for the remainder of the season.

A place to bury strangers.

If the bad kharma is to continue

we have no shot for this year, but if things turn around soon, and we go 8-2 the rest of the way (which is possible, but a longshot) we’d be at 9-7 and right in the middle of the division race. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery for Hasselbeck and a nice run of wins and good kharma.

But if the bad kharma continues, lets just burn off enough of it this year to last the next 10.

If we go 9-1 from here out we win the superbowl!

So, hows Beck looking? If he is back this week, we will be nearly 100% assuming branch is back. Meaning we might be able to keep up with the points our Defense allows, also, we might be able to keep them off the field allowing some breathing room for them.

Here’s to you Hawks, Let just pretend those first 6 games never happened :)

This is a good post,

And not because it’s optimistic, I think it’s a tad unrealistic, but because it brings a different, supported point to the table. I have a little something to add to this, but I wanted to point out how happy I am to read something that’s not about who’s a pussy or who needs to find their sack.

I was thinking exactly what he said....

While I was suffering the affects of another loss last night.

We do have an extremely tough schedule this year, even from here out. But it can be done!

Agreed.

Thanks for the well thought out post.

Hasselbeck has to come back.

I agree that there is enough football left to be played, that we can overcome what has happened so far. The past two weeks the defense and run offense kept us in the game despite HORRIBLE passing offense, which has left us unable to sustain drives.

It felt like there were wide open WRs all day for the Buccs(and there were), but we only allowed 20 points. Only scoring 3 points until the game was practically over and not keeping the ball for any decent amount of time is not the defenses fault.

TOP
41:41 TB, 18:19 SEA.

That we allowed only 20 points with that kind of TOP is astounding. Yes the defense was not perfect but with much better QB play I can actually see that game being winnable. The GB game was similar, except we were in that game even longer, only letting it get away from us at the end.

TB and GB are two NFC teams that have been very good this year. With no passing game our defense and run game have been enough for us to stay in the game into the 3rd and 4th quarter. If Matt Hasselbeck comes back completely healthy(big if) I have to believe our team has a real chance to win against any team. That is all I can ask for.

Another thing.

I do like that I see changes out there. Wilson in base defense instead of Jennings(Who I like) some, Tapp(I am a Jackson fan but the better player should be playing) in a lot more, Red Bryant playing DT after being inactive for a lot of games. Things that we fans who pay close attention have mentioned should be tried, they are happening.

The coaches are not just sitting on their hands, they are trying to fix the problems. The biggest problem is not having Hass, and I can’t fault Holmgren for believing Seneca can go out there and make some plays. He should be able to, and he had a horrible game.

Thanks for giving me a little hope again. I think…….

I'd like to kick Josh Brown in the privates!

Regardless

We could play undefeated teams every week. If we don’t play well we don’t play well. The schedule has been tough so if we were 3-3 right now (winning SF, STL, GB at home) that would be alright. But we aren’t 3-3 we are 1-5. Add on top of that the fact that we were completely blown out of the water twice. With two games against Arizona still to come and SF continuing to collapse hard we could still win the division.

Arizona has given us headaches the last couple years though…
