T.J. Houshmandzadeh

The Dayton Daily News reports that a league source said the 49ers have expressed some interest in acquiring Bengals WR T.J Houshmandzadeh before the Week 7 trade deadline. According to the report, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz would like to upgrade at the wide receiver position. Roy Williams is also allegedly on the 49ers' radar. Are the Hawks interested in either of these guys. I know I've read some talk on here about Roy Williams. Any idea what it would take for us to aquire one of them?

A place to bury strangers.

Do Not Want.

Both are on the last year of their contract, and will require at least a first round pick to acquire.

In addition, neither plays in a similar offense, and we know that receivers take along time to get used to Holmgren’s WCO. We already know that this offense does not need a true number one receiver to be successful, in any case. “Air Holmgren” succeeded last season with essentially Bobby Engram, Burleson, and Branch/Hackett for the short times they actually weren’t injured.

In short, we’d be trading away prime talent for negligible production only to see them walk away at the end of the season.

Both also have character issues (not Pacman like issues), which would turn Ruskell away.

Likely would cost a bit much.

Besides, we’re not hurting as much on the WR depth as we were weeks ago. If we’re going to get anyone, I’d prefer it be a safety.

I love Housh...

But he’s probably too expensive for us. We have more pressing issues than receiver, anyway.

Agreed with much of what has been said. Would TJ make us a superbowl contender? Not really.

Would Ed Reed or a giant defensive tackle like one of the two Williams on Minnesota or someone of that calibre make us a superbowl contender? Maybe not, but sometimes all it takes is a Bob Sanders or a Polamalu to right a team. That being said, I think our WR problems are no longer as big of a concern as they used to bed, though a lot of that dependson Branch’s health.
