Seahawks Anonymous - Filling in for Scruffy edition

Post-game bitching goes in here. Try to keep the reactionary fanposts to a minimum. Actually, if you're thinking of creating a fanpost and there's nothing constructive to say, it would probably be best not to post it.

If you don't feel like bitching about football, let's talk music.

This is a great cover of a classic Bobby Blue Band tune "Farther up the Road."

One of the four people in this music video doesn't belong. He's sort of Londonbeat's own Brian Russell.

A few weeks ago we talked about things we hate. Let's talk about things we like.

-Rain

-Thunder storms

-Pumpkin pie

-House, MD

-Doctor Who

-West coast jazz

-Felix Hernandez

-Adrian Beltre

-Marcus Trufant

-Matt Hasselbeck

-Yamaha brand saxophones

-Intel brand microprocessers

-NVIDIA brand GPUs

-Cake that isn't a lie

-Campy sci-fi movies

Oh and Converse brand shoes.

I love Converse shoes.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 4:54 PM PST   0 recs

Not a fan of Converse either,

but they’re better than Puma.

by LantermanC on Nov 3, 2008 8:06 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Oh, no doubt

Pumas are the sign of a tracksuit-wearin, hair-slicked back guido

Thats not as bad then

Seeing as your not one of the 9 billion people that picked up a pair a few years go

by redwolf75 on Nov 2, 2008 5:36 PM PST   0 recs

I'm playing F.E.A.R.

at the moment.

It’s definitely in the pants-crapping scary category, as is System Shock 2.

by redwolf75 on Nov 2, 2008 6:47 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

FEAR was frightening

but the pacing in System Shock 2 was what made it the most horrifying game experience ever.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 6:49 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Pity they don't make it anymore.

One has to buy it used off of ebay.

by redwolf75 on Nov 2, 2008 6:51 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Left 4 Dead is going to be pretty freaky

when you’re playing at late at night/super early in the morning and alone.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 7:02 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Yes it will.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 7:04 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

True, I've never played it before.

But just from a movie I’ve seen, L4D looks awesomely scary.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 7:19 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

L4D will likely be scary

but SS2 is in a completely different league.

It was like taking the best elements from Aliens, The Ring, and Psycho and combining them into one fantastically horrifying experience.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 7:34 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

L4D will be tons of fun

but its not going to be very phycological. I still can’t get through silent hill 4

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 8:51 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I don't know.

If it’s like this movie from the game, it’ll be pretty terrifying.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:00 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

ya if you think 28 days later is scary

Shock terror just doesn’t do it for me.

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 9:09 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Not necessarily.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:18 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

yes it is

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 9:19 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

The remake of Dawn of the Dead didn't have great pacing.

It was still a pretty good movie.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:21 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

/facepalm

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 9:23 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

...Okay?

Just proving my point.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:26 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

In what way was Dawn of the Dead good?

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 9:27 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Go watch Ringu.

That movie left me fucked up for weeks.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:31 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

The fast zombies are what

put it over the top. And it got a 7.4 on IMDB and a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. So a lot of people liked it.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:31 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Zombies are overrated in horror films.

It’s the easy standby for some producer who wants to make a quick buck.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:32 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Not really.

All of the big zombie movies every have been good. There’s a reason for that.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:34 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

What about The Thing?

Pacing wasn’t great, but great acting, a great script and a great plot made it tremendous.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:37 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Your homework this week

is to watch Alien and Ringu.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:41 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

You don't like The Thing either?

What about the original Halloween? The first Nightmare on Elm Street?

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:43 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

These are all more shock value films.

Movies like Alien are the real mindfucks.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:45 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

You know that Romero's films

are brilliant for their underlaying saying, right? Not because of their “shock value”?

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 9:46 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

They're good

but still not as excellent as the Hitchcock films or the good Alien films.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:48 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

You actually need to watch these films

before rendering judgment, you know.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:49 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Cannibalism?

That’s textbook shock value horror.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 10:01 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

But...Lecter wasn't

even the main villian. There really wasn’t any cannibalism until near the end.

"Hole in one, eh?"

by Coach Owens on Nov 2, 2008 10:04 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I can't believe this, but I'm taking Coach's side here.

Halloween is one of the purest horror movies ever made. It’s nearly perfect.

Then "The Audition"

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

by Scruffy Lefty on Nov 2, 2008 9:43 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Good pacing is what separates mediocre horror films from great ones.

Shock terror is a cheap, easy way to make a film like that.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:28 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Decent

but not in the same league as horror films like Alien, Pyscho, or The Shining.

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:39 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I will say that as far as Zombie horror goes

Romero is one of the few who can pull it off without being incredibly lame/campy

by BrianL on Nov 2, 2008 9:44 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Psycho is one of Hitchcock's weaker films.

Rebecca is one of his best. Rebecca is full of shock value. There are lots of other examples, but my point is that you’re underestimating the value of shock.

J.K.L.

by acblue on Nov 3, 2008 2:21 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Pacing is what makes a suspense film excellent.

Horror can be excellent in many different ways.

And speaking of the Seattle Sounders FC

a neat bit of inside information.

I work for Mills Music, and we just sold them a ton of marching brass and percussion. Apparently they’re going with a drum and bugle corps style pep band.

bluray sucks

Just got a package from Amazon today.

Ironman on bluray, Forbidden Kingdom on bluray, 3:10 to Yuma on Bluray, The happening on bluray, Madmen season1 on bluray, and Pushing Daisies season 1 on bluray. What a glorious day (office season four, life season one, psych season 2 as well, but just normal dvd, as well as digital camera and like 10 awesome books). So I guess I’m going to add big ass packages of ordered crap to this love list.
