Catching the Cards

I don't really care what the commentariat says, that 'Zona has this thing done already.  I think the winner of the NFC west will be 8-8 or 9-7.

One of the 2-6 teams in the basement will challenge, maybe even Seattle once we have our cube back.

Nothing we have seen so far indicates any of the 2-6 teams could go 6-2 or 7-1 in the second half to get it there, but can the Cards really continue with no QB injuries vs the Giants, Philly, and Minn in coming weeks?  I think Zona got lucky catching the Cowboys and Bills slumping, and their air attack will have to come down at some point.

Whatcha think?

A place to bury strangers.

Without Hass were boned

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

Let's look at the positive side.

Next year we get a weak schedule, good draft picks, a Mora tailored defensive system, new staff, and hopefully a healthy Matt Hasselbeck (put him on IR, dammit).

But this year is over.

I've heard countless comments about how the seahawks are over

and must go into rebuilding mode.

I don’t quite buy that.

No, I don't believe that this is a franchise that needs to go into full rebuilding mode.

I think John put it best yesterday. We’re not the Detroit Lions.

I think it completely depends on what Mora has to offer.....

Because if our secondary is a sign….then we better start now!

I think we should let him go to uw and pick up a real coach, cowler is coming back….we need a coach….why not?

How much of the secondary woes are a function of bad play calling?

There may be some talent issues there, but as we’ve discussed ad-nauseam, there’s been some really lousy play selection taking place. Who’s more to blame on that end? Mora or Marshall?

We may need to think QB in the first round.

Hasselbeck’s problem sounds extremely chronic. If there was something they could do to fix it he would have had surgery by now. If it was anyone other than hasselbeck, who is always downplaying injury, he would probably have retired by now. This feels like what happened to Mack Strong last year. Hasselebck is just broken down. Bulging disc causing his knee to get tight, yikes.

Even if he could ‘get healthy’ by being put on IR, with the condition he has, the odds of him playing more than 10 games next year are next to nil. I would say why don’t we give him a couple more weeks off, then bring him back, and he’ll play for fun. We’ll all enjoy watching him one last time, and next year figure out the next QB.

I hate to be so pessimistic, but I think I am being rational. What follows is that without Hasselbeck this team will continue to struggle next year, it will take time to acclimate a new QB. Even Matt Ryan this year, and Peyton manning as a rookie, were a step down from Hass last year or in 2005. Using Wallace or Frye as a stopgap won’t make things much better I bet. Probably a good idea to take a good long look at Derek Andersen..

I don’t think we need to start ‘rebuilding’ in the holistic sense. But if what I am saying here comes true and we have won one game by the trade deadline next year and have a monster QB question mark… Maybe you deal a guy who is playing his last season…

I prefer my QBs and RBs in rounds 2-6

Simply because it’s harder to judge decision making. (I guess MLBs and Safeties as well then…)

I completely agree with you on this point, at least on RBs.

We need to draft a top flight OL, S, CB (?), DE (?). OL first.

I think we're okay on CB depth

at least we’re okay enough to move that down the priority list. If I had my druthers we’d get a top-flight OL.
