Patrick Kerney to Have Exploratory Surgery
Proving you have to get up pretty early to out-bad news Field Gulls.
Kerney is in Birmingham, Ala., to have exploratory surgery on his painful shoulder. It will be performed by Dr. James Andrews, the same specialist who repaired a torn labrum in Kerney's shoulder in January.
Yay, extended tryout for Baraka Atkins! Exploratory surgery is merely the prelude to doom, so back down that shotgun pal, there's time yet to say bye to your loved ones. I'll center the Tape around Tapp, Jackson and yes, red-headed inept child, Atkins. Here's a hint: Your top pass rusher from Sunday: Craig Terrill.

Brian Orakpo in the draft maybe?
I wonder what the chances are we could get Sam Bradford, Taylor Mays, and Orakpo. Maybe if we just asked Goodell really really nicely.

I thought this was already a forgone conclusion?

I thought he already had exploratory surgery.

As I understand it
It went, seeing Andrews to needing exploratory surgery. He could have visited Andrews and been told that his pain is natural soreness or something minor, but this is confirmation that something needs to be touched up (weeks) or something more is wrong (season).

I really should pay more attention to these things.

Mostly because I automatically associate Doctor Andrews with exploratory surgery and doom.
Kind of like I automatically associate 3rd and long with a FB draw.

Didn't exploratory surgery work out well for Bedard?
Exception that proves the rule maybe, but it’s not a foregone conclusion.

That is why we drafted LoJack
Once Kerney blew his shoulder last year, it was time to add some depth to the thin D-line. With Kerney over 30y/o, you have to have something in reserve and Tapp alone wasn’t going to cut it. I consider having Kerney playing this long better than losing him for good at the start of the season. We definitely will be looking for an early round replacement.

early round replacement?
Are you serious? With Tapp and LoJack, as well as Kerney even in decline, we have more pressing needs than DE for the early rounds, IMHO.

Everyone must have three on the roster.

Lets add Coach to that list too
We could trade a draft pick to Atlanta for Mike Smith like the Chiefs did with Herm Edwards a couple years back…except, hopefully with better results

Mora is signed on already, like it or not.

OK I vote we just IR everyone over 27
This way, the old farts get rest, the youngsters get experience, the FO gets high draft picks.

Might not be a bad plan.
