Game Thread: Seahawks @ Dolphins

Seattle Seahawks at Miami Dolphins, Nov 9, 2008 10:00 AM PST

At some point today, Darryl Tapp will come free towards the quarterback after a perfect inside move on Vernon Carey.

At some point today, John Carlson will run a route carved by Michelangelo.

At some point today, Brandon Mebane will obliterate a single block and force Ronnie Brown wide.

And not even losing can take that away.

I wonder if when Floyd Womack is eventually injured the team will give Wrotto some looks.

Tapp

If you were to weigh Tapp getting his starting job back, what would it be between Tapp’s actual play or Jackson’s play declining.

by m_b on Nov 9, 2008 10:02 AM PST reply actions

I like it personally

Your offense is on the field when the crowd is still coming back from halftime, so it’s quieter. Plus I like knowing that we have the ball coming out of the half.

Of course, you have to have your D not suck it up in the first half…

by Strang on Nov 9, 2008 10:06 AM PST up reply actions

So is there a reason our defenders HATE wrapping up?

Deon Grant’s attempt to tackle Brown with his head a second ago was retarded.

how many different formations and plays do the Dolphins have? We haven’t seen the same one twice.

Are you WATCHING this, Holmy?

by djafrot on Nov 9, 2008 10:31 AM PST reply actions

Which is why they are outplaying their "talent level"

If they weren’t pl;aying us I would say they were fun to watch.

by GarethLewin on Nov 9, 2008 10:32 AM PST up reply actions

I no longer think this team is underplaying it’s talent level due to injuries, coaching, etc. They just suck.

by lemonverbena on Nov 9, 2008 10:39 AM PST up reply actions

Then what do you think of 2007's team?

It’s pretty much the same team plus a few improvements.

Yesterday's Pants
A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.

by BrettJMiller on Nov 9, 2008 10:40 AM PST up reply actions

I thought last year's team played way above it's head

mostly because of brilliant play from Hasselbeck. The talent level around Hass was/is decent-to-pretty good, but take him out of the equation and, well, yeah. I do think there is a high talent level on defense, that the unit is playing horribly and that Marshall should have been replaced some time ago.

by lemonverbena on Nov 9, 2008 10:44 AM PST up reply actions

But you said "I no longer think this team is underplaying it's talent level due to injuries, coaching etc."

You just conceded that losing Hass hurt the team. So what is it? Do they all suck or do injuries play in?

by BrianL on Nov 9, 2008 10:46 AM PST up reply actions

Injuries have reduced them from at least a decent team to a bad one.

And if you look unit to unit, of course there’s talent there. But on a whole, I think our talent level has been overrated. The O-line is bad, the D is undersized, Jones is not the long-term answer as a starter, etc etc.

I’ll concede that it’s too sweeping a statement to say “they suck” but I’m just really frustrated. It’s sad to watch my beloved Hawks unravel, beginning with the Hutch fuckup.

by lemonverbena on Nov 9, 2008 10:51 AM PST up reply actions

First Half Cap:

I’ve always suffered from delusions of grandeur. I think it’s genetic. I’m starting to think someone in the Seahawks is actually reading this blog. So here goes. Fix this team now and win.

1. Run behind Owen Schmitt UP THE MIDDLE. Not just on stretch and off tackle plays.

2. Cut down on the play action. Play action doesn’t work when you call it more than you call actual runs.

3. Do not blitz seven. Seven man blitzes are iffy as is, but any blitz involving Grant or Russell is plain stupid.

4. Involve Leroy Hill in blitzes.

5. Do not put Craig Terrill in at defensive tackle on three man rushes. Use Brandon Mebane and Rocky Bernard.

Well aware of that. I don't listen to it with any regularity

But I pop in every once in a while for news updates. This week was hilarious because they blamed the loss on Carlson, and even brought him on for an interview and asked him about the drop

HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)

by tootthekazoo on Nov 9, 2008 1:03 PM PST up reply actions

As long as they allow Mitch Leavy and Dave Mahler to have regular timeslot jobs

and stiff Dave Grosby on a two-hour slot with Mike Gastineau and keep Elisa Jaffe in a late-night slot, there’s no reason to ever listen to that station.

by BrianL on Nov 9, 2008 1:08 PM PST up reply actions

I caught bits of Dick Fain's weekend show a few weeks ago.

He’s okay. I’d much prefer him to have a regular weekday slot over those three.

by BrianL on Nov 9, 2008 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

Fain is definitely alright

And Jason Pucket, the guy that does the Mariners post game, is also pretty good. But sports radio, just like the rest of sports media, is a real “Old Boys club” so they’ll never get a regular timeslot. I have no idea how or why Elise kept her job when the other guy left (can’t remember his name at the moment) to do radio for the Sonics

Groz knows what he's talking about about half the time.

So of course they took his show away from him for Ian Furness, which has significantly take the Dave Cameron and/or Jason Churchill time on the station down a notch.

Holmgren, this one is on you.

For two reasons:

ONE: Seneca sucks. We all know it. WHY IN GOD’S NAME ARE WE TRUSTING HIM TO BE A BACKUP.

TWO: learn to use some freaking timeouts. Please.

One isn't Holmgren's fault.

Two, I agree with.

How is it not his fault?

He clearly believes, contrary to reality, that Seneca is capable.

What are his options?

Charlie Frye? Brian Russell? Hasselbeck is hurt. It’s not like he wants to start Seneca.

It looks like Seneca stares down his recievers

hence, many batted balls by the DBs reading his eyes
