If this looks funky to anyone...
I'll try and fix it. I taught myself HTML about 9 months ago and this is the biggest project I've ever tried. It ended up being kind of a pain in the ass, so I'll add the defense, special teams, injured and practice squad lists over the weekend.

The Depth Chart looks just fine, John
Although I should point out that with 3 receivers and two running backs, your chart gets flagged for too many men on the field.  Do we really need that bald guy in the middle?  I think we can all agree that the Quarterback is merely a figurehead in the offense, and totally superfluous.  Am I right, or what?

by JL White on Mar 20, 2008 11:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh...
Names are linked to relevant content. That will be updated periodically. I will have a printer friendly version available before the season starts. Feel free to use this thread to request any other charts or resources you'd like to see me create/add. I really want Field Gulls to become the site for anything and everything Seahawks related. Thanks.

by John Morgan on Mar 20, 2008 1:38 PM PDT reply actions

Well...
Logan Payne, Steve Vallos and Mansfield Wrotto will be listed as practice squad players. So that's a little depth.

by John Morgan on Mar 20, 2008 2:08 PM PDT up reply actions

The longer I look at this
the more I'm ok with it.  A team can always use depth, but match this offense with a top 10 D in the worst division in football and you should get 10 wins.  What you do from there probably won't be a lot different than what we've done in the post season the last 2 years.

I think listing Obomanu is the slot is a little misleading.  If the line up 2 wide Engram will be the flanker, but if they go 3 wide Engram will be in the slot and Obomanu would go out wide, right?  Or am I missing something?

by Nate Dogg on Mar 20, 2008 2:18 PM PDT reply actions

It's pretty interchangeable
Engram is the closest thing Seattle has to a flanker, so that's where I listed him. But play to play, it's pretty interchangeable. That's true of almost any NFL offense.

by John Morgan on Mar 20, 2008 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Passing game
Based upon this lineup, it makes me nervous.  I mean, who's going to be catching passes?  Maybe this is Nate's breakout year.  Maybe Bobby can somehow maintain his performance.  Maybe one of the young guys steps up.  But with that WR and TE lineup, we're thin.  Really thin.

Matt Hasselbeck
as never seen before right here on Field Gulls!

RG:B Albert, TE: M Bennett, WR: E Bennett
I like the looks of that left side oline, alot.

Hass has done well with rag-tags like Urban, Robinson, Bannister, Warrick, Stevens; he'll be fine with this group.

This is an old post that's been updated.

And will be updated continually throughout the season.

Mansfield Wrotto
You need to add him to our depth. What is the word on him? He is he getting any better as a player?

Hard to say until
he actually plays. We'll see in four months I guess.

I think Wrotto will spend another season...
on the practice squad so that's where I'll put him. He's very talented, but equally rough. He projects as a longterm solution at left guard.

by John Morgan on Mar 21, 2008 8:57 AM PDT up reply actions

Wrotto

never was put on the PS last year… he was inactive, but part of the 53.

It is what it is...

Look at all them honkeys...
We need some diversity on this team!

Ouch

Yeah, I'm not liking the idea of Burleson at split.  It seems like an awfully big risk entering the season with a 36 year old who's just waiting to get injured and 3 completely unproven guys to complement him at WR, especially when we aren't really sure how the running game is going to work out either.

by notor @ Field Gulls on Mar 21, 2008 12:31 AM PDT reply actions

Burly
I just love Burleson's mustache. If they remade Star Wars, he would be a strong candidate for Lando Calrissian.

by UW Alex on Mar 21, 2008 12:46 PM PDT reply actions

Wrotto? Practice Squad?

I am pretty sure Wrotto was on the active roster all of last year which makes him ineligible for the practice squad. Am I wrong about this?

by SA77 on Jul 5, 2008 11:27 AM PDT reply actions

No, you are correct.

From the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement

Section 4. Eligibility:
(a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than two previous seasons on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). An otherwise eligible player may be a practice squad player for a third season only if the Club by which he is employed that season has at least 53 players on its Active/Inactive List during the entire period of his employment.

That was a mistake on my part.

by John Morgan on Jul 6, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I believe

wrotto was inactive for the whole season, barring the final game. Wrotto would need nines games on the active list to not be a potential PS member. Good luck getting him through waivers.

It is what it is...

by kidder95 on Sep 1, 2008 10:05 AM PDT up reply actions

There is a difference

between being on the 53 and being active on the 45. Wrotto, I believe was only active on the 45 against Atlanta. Thus, Wrotto only has one of nine “45” active games; thus, Wrotto has PS eligibility. Sando has the breakdown on ESPN.

Atkins does not have eligibility (I think).

It is what it is...

by kidder95 on Sep 1, 2008 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions

Atkins does not.

He was active for 12 games last season.

by John Morgan on Sep 1, 2008 10:10 AM PDT up reply actions

Wrotto will surprise

I believe Wrotto was part of the 53, but never active

- Wrotto may get to secnd team this year.

Is it me...

or does Courtney Taylor look like a mean bastard?

by John Morgan on Sep 1, 2008 10:13 AM PDT reply actions

I was thinking

the same thing. I love his demeanor, his build, his intelligence. My God, if the man can stay healthy, he looks like… Terrel Owens.

It is what it is...

by kidder95 on Sep 1, 2008 10:16 AM PDT up reply actions

And he looks meaner live

He looked like a grizzled linebacker doing an interview on the sidelines in the last preseason game.

by Nate Dogg on Sep 1, 2008 11:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Man..

Logan Payne in the slot. What a mess.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I did a double-take when I saw that.

by Misfit74 on Sep 2, 2008 11:18 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah...

I kind of have this feeling that when we go to 3 WR we move Burly to the slot and Kent out wide. Getting Burly on the move against some poor linebacker or nickel corner sounds like YAC heaven.

One also wonders if Carlson will be put in the slot, too…

Rookie Photos

Is it just an accident that the two starting rookies (Payne and Carlson) both have their photos taken further away?

It makes them look like a couple of kids from the JV squad lining up on fan appreciation day or something.

by brokejumper on Sep 1, 2008 2:08 PM PDT reply actions

is Payne starting over Kent?

I’m sure both we’ll see time, but it seemed liked Kent was getting more action with the starters in the pre-season.

by MFAN on Sep 1, 2008 3:45 PM PDT reply actions

you know I am in love with Kent

lets hope that either one is worthy

Why? Because the Seahawks rock my socks.

by Chickadee on Sep 1, 2008 4:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I think Payne is a better fit in the slot.

And that he will play the Bobby Engram role, something Kent isn’t really designed for. I think Kent will see time in 4 wide sets and playing split end when Burleson moves to the slot.

by John Morgan on Sep 1, 2008 4:34 PM PDT up reply actions

thanks for the clarification. I was wondering about that, too.

by Misfit74 on Sep 2, 2008 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

Kent will take on the role that we had Hackett in. Running long routes that will be five step drops.

Hackett hardly ever went across the middle. Payne is Engram without the ability to punt return early on in his career.

John, when I see Payne I see a Brandon Stokley. Am I wrong in this?

Josh Hartnett and Payne kind of looks like a young Brian Russell. Just saying.
