Trufant makes his offer

http://www.thenewstribune.com/512/story/299912.html

About $9 mil a year - less than Asante, of course. I think we should take it. With the way salaries are going up, he'd certainly cost more than this in a few years, especially if he continues to play at or near this level. We might be overpaying a bit, but it would be nice to lock him up now at a price which will appear reasonable two or three years from now. Apparently, the cap hit for this season would not be overwhelming.

Also, does anyone else feel a little weird about the possibility, remote though it is, of T.J. Duckett and D.J. Hackett on the same roster? The names are just a bit too similar.

A place to bury strangers.

I think this bodes well
for a long term deal getting signed.

Still too much.

Trufant is very good, but he's not one of the top 5 corners in the league, not yet at least.  And that kind of money is top 5 money...

We'll probably end up paying it just because he has all the leverage with our current cap situation, but it's too much in my opinion.  At least a good amount of it will be backended, so if he doesn't develop into the elite corner he's getting paid like we can limit the damage.

Yeah, to me the risk-reward is on our side
.. if we do offer him that money. I can't imagine anyone wants to keep franchising him year after year, and he has shown consistent improvement, and was a top draft pick who is living up to his potential and talent level. Plus, paying for a top end corner is always going to be expensive, and he's still in the prime of his career.
Let's go.
