If he is still on the board at 25
Ugh John
This is a pick...
To be honest, I'd be fine with Kenny Phillips or Laws here, but to avoid a rebuilding phase... that's pretty huge.
I'm looking forward to this draft.
Good Pick
So the question is

seneca falls?
We don't know how well Frye has been doing.
He may already figure as a QB of the future...
I don't think Seneca would be that great at WR. He is a nice athlete and all but can he run a route? I somehow think if was such a blue-chip WR he would have gone down that road a while ago. I sort of doubt he could take the pounding of playing every snap at WR.
you guys should consider Obomanu, Taylor, Kent, and Payne as your WR options if we don't draft or trade for one.
Isn't the going rate for star WR's a 4th round pick =) I'd let go of that for Chad Johnson.
I agree

Ha, that's funny
The more I see,
Laws provides the biggest upgrade today of any of the players expected to be available at 25. The Seahawks appear to have a win now, defense first attitude, and he'd certainly fit that mold. The odds that Phillips can step in, in his first year, and make a positive difference seems less than the odds of a DT being able to do that. And the Hawks still need depth on their d-line.
If we're expecting Hasselbeck to retire in 2011, that leaves 3 (4? is his contract through the 2011 season or does it end before it?) seasons left. It'd be hard to justify spending a first round pick on him just to have him sit for 3 years. I know thats how it used to happen, and maybe how it should happen, but you can't lock up that much money on someone that isn't playing in today's NFL. You could make it work, but I don't see the need to go down that road quite yet.
His contract expires 2010
I must say, I'm very happy for Trevor Laws. I hope all this internet goodwill carries over to the draft.
Didn't everybody think
I was a kid when Leaf was drafted...
yeah
Mirer was a little different. I don't think he was a one year wonder, but he had a pretty low completion percentage while at ND if I'm not mistaken. Bill Walsh did say he was the next Joe Montana though.
Mirer was probably an obvious bust, but not nearly as obvious as Leaf.
I understand it, and even like it..
Would Phillips be an immediate upgrade....
Over Russell? I mean, he will certainly be an upgrade in a year or two but could he step into an NFL defense and be an immediate starter over him this year? We can survive next season with Russell and still make a championship run, but I guess my concern is that, if Phillips is not an immediate and substantial upgrade to our D why use a #1 pick on him, if the justification for doing it is that our current window of contention will be closing soon?
Whereas, if we use our pick on Brohm we are prepared for a future where our running game is no longer the dominant force it once was, and we can rely on our QB to deliver wins to us instead of just managing as best he can.
