And now some bad news

Frank Hughes is reporting that Bobby Engram held out of minicamp yesterday because he's unhappy with his contract.  It's the last year of his deal (he's making 1.7m in salary).

I'm a little surprised but I guess that's mainly the fannish knee-jerk reaction of "how could you do this to us?!" when he's a 35 year old wide receiver who was the leading receiver at his position on the team last year... and who is on a team that is pretty much counting on him to contribute heavily again this year.

I hope this is worked out for both parties.  It seems like the sort of thing that Ruskell wouldn't jive with... and with a new head coach coming in next year...

A place to bury strangers.

I wonder who said get a WR?

What was his name? Mookie? No no no, changed his name? SSReps?

Hopefully he re-signs or else Obudroppedit is in the starting lineup.

See ya Shaun.

That sucks.

I can see his point – 1.7m is paltry for a WR with his numbers on a winning team. But it is the contract he signed.

Ruskell should give him the benefit of the doubt and work something out, but that has never appeared to be his style. Maybe Holmgren can mediate something.

At the moment, this isn't real substantiated.

One source, no confirmation from team or player, I wouldn’t worry about it yet. This could easily blow over or never had been anything to begin with.

Personally, I’m not counting on much of anything from Engram. He’s obviously a good player, but when a third progression receiver hauls in 94 receptions, it says a lot about the pass blocking of the offensive line. He’s 35, coming off a career year in receptions and is a prime candidate for breakdown or decline. The last time he topped 80 receptions, he only played 3 games the next season. I love Engram, one of my longtime favorites, but I’m not counting on him and the team shouldn’t be counting on him either.

Clare Farnsworth talks to Bobby about it.

But yeah, I hope it blows over.

Its voluntary camp

its not required. Don’t overreact. It will be serious if he decides to miss mandatory training camp.

oh yeah

so a second year reciever drops some passes, he is going to suck the next year. That is logical. Nesides we have three other young recievers we can go to.
