On the plus side.

It’s taking so long probably because Tim Ruskell and company are exploring all options.

I really hope Bumpus makes the team if Obo is going to be out for a while?

I think Babs can be invaluable. I don’t want us signing DBs off the street late in the year again.

by Misfit74 on Aug 30, 2008 2:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

So he can blow coverage again and fail to properly tackle someone?

Give me Pete Hunter.

by SSreporters on Aug 30, 2008 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

there is a reason Pete Hunter has played 2 games in the past 3 years

I agree that Babs = garbage as the nickel, but he has value as a back-up safety and as a special teamer.

That being said

He seems to show up in the playoffs quite a bit.

I meant Hunter over Babs = insane.

He has a place on the team, even though he’s not the greatest. I bet someone like the Browns he would start….!

I know you all are waiting patiently for the roster cuts, as am I. I spoke with the Hawks about 50 minutes ago, when they told me they should be sending out an email in about half an hour. That has come and gone. As soon as I get the information, I will post it up here and then do an evaluation.

You know who else can receive an email? Anyone.

Maybe this is how the Hawks run their organization, or maybe this is just what the beat writers are willing to accept, but this is complete bullshit.

good point.

This was released previously, but supports that statement regarding the appeal idea:

“Seahawks DT Rocky Bernard’s domestic violence case will be dismissed if he complies with a series of stipulations for two years.
Bernard was arrested in April when a former girlfriend said he hit her at a bar. The "order of continuance” is not a conviction, so we’re guessing it will help Bernard avoid a league suspension.?"

by Misfit74 on Aug 30, 2008 5:38 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sure...

Speaking as someone who’s entered many of these types of agreements from both sides of the aisle, while not pleading guilty Bernard likely either flat out stipulated to the admissibility of the reports against him if he violates the agreements and/or stipulated to the sufficiency of the facts contained in the police report to convict if he violates the agreement.

He hasn’t been convicted, but it hasn’t been dismissed either. I know people who’ve entered similar agreements and found that was enough to violate them on probation elsewhere.

I agree with the one game suspension. Certainly puts Bernard on notice of the league’s intentions if a similar allegation arises laster on, but they aren’t hammering him like they would if he was convicted.

That's why Babs is worthless in coverage, he's thinking about baking brownies.

Give me the home, where Buffalo roams, and watch Jones get a hundred yard game.

Maybe he trains in the offseason with one Ricky Williams…

Or he just resides in Port Orchard.

At first glance, I'm disappointed Bumpus didn't make the cut

But I told you Gilmore was cooked after his end zone drop, Burly with Kent and Taylor and Payne is okay. Probably see a lot of 3 WR set ups.

Other than that, I have no problems with the cuts made, well done Ruskell.

i can't stop thinking about how optimistic i am about kent

seriously, mark my words, if not this year then next.

Why? Because the Seahawks rock my socks.

no kidding

we’ve missed a big guy at WR for a LONG time… and I don’t think we’ve ever had someone with Kent’s size/speed combination.

he's built like randy moss

w/o the beef arms, but that can come

I like Kent, too. Also, if Payne can put it together, he has big-time speed, which is always exciting.

agreed,

what’s that, two great, successful end-arounds this preseason?

I think very highly of Courtney Taylor

I wouldn’t mind seeing Seneca play some WR this year. As long as he goes out of bounds every play because he will fumble.

Payne does NOT have "big-time speed"

If he makes a living at this, it will be mostly in the slot, on short to intermediate crossing and seam routes…

I must have been confusing him with Kent…thanks

why wasnt Branch PUPed

he a lot closer to playing than we’ve been led to believe?

Wait, they kept Mare and Coutu?

Is Coutu doing kickoffs and Mare doing field goals or something?

just makes no sense to keep 2 kickers over Adams. really there is no excuse.

by gslange on Aug 30, 2008 8:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

you can argue that Mare’s kickoffs and the improved field position are more valuable than Adams’ sitting on the bench and an occasional special teams tackle. Coutu seems to have the better leg on FGs… There is still a chance one of ’em gets axed (or sent to the PS) after week one.

by Misfit74 on Aug 30, 2008 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So apparently they really don't trust Mare with field goals

Otherwise there’d be no reason to keep Coutu, the difference in their kickoff ability was clear.

Both Mare and Brandon Coutu made Seattle’s 53-man roster, but Mare will only kick off, the Associated Press reports.

Bad idea

To trust Mare with field goal duties. I don’t know much about the rookie, but it’s hard for him to be worse.

i’d rather have adams on the team than coutu on the practice squad. no brainer

by gslange on Aug 30, 2008 9:24 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

still wonder about a trade...

I anticipate that Seattle will try to stash Coutu on the practice squad after week 1, when other teams have their 53 man rosters set.

I still wonder about the possibility of moving Babin (preferably) or Atkins in a trade for some depth at a position of need, or more likely a pick. Perhaps they’re expecting Kerney to start showing his age this season, but five ends seems like kind of a lot.

I wonder if Ruskell might not be on the phone with the Giants trying to work something out. They could use depth at DE and I certainly like their young safety Michael Johnson, a kid who I think has a similar skill set to Jamar Adams.

Frank Hughes said about the same thing,

but Coutu isn’t any less exposed next week than he is this week. 53 man rosters are never set. It’s a limitation. Kickers are cut and signed all the time and the second one has a bad game, that team will attempt to sign Coutu.

Because Adams may not survive waivers

Even with Adams our depth at safety is at best so-so.

the way we use safties i'm not worried about injuries

so unless its an upgrade, i’d say dont wast the time/money/where-with-all
