Chris Gray Retires

A spine injury has forced Chris Gray into retirement.

A finesse pass blocker, Gray never received his due. Something about doing your job, keeping the franchise healthy and blocking for a string of top passing offenses just doesn't translate to the highlight reels. But that's what he did for 15 seasons, 11 with Seattle. A hell of a guard and a true Hawk, I wish him the very best health and happiness for the rest of his life. It might not feel like it right now Mr. Gray, but the best part of your life is just beginning.

For the team, losing Gray is another hit to an offensive line already without depth. Last season, Gray wasn't good, by the end of the season he was outright awful, but he was tenable. I'm not sure Seattle has another second string guard we can say that about. Or tackle. Or center.

Yeah

I’m becoming very concerned about our Offensive line situation. I think Ruskell already has his next offseason project lined up.

Are there any other free agent linemen out there who might be worth taking a flier on?

Good luck to you, Mr. Gray, you were a great Seahawk!

SA already brought it up

But it is time to take a flier on Le Charles… or make a trade.

Sad to hear

I wish him well.

Any chance the Hawk’s are seeing something out of their young guys on the o-line that we haven’t had a chance to see yet? Also, is this a possible opening for Bentley? He played guard for a year or two in New Orleans before moving back to center.

Headline on Seahawks Insider: "Long-time center Chris Gray retires"

Someday that blog will look like it isn’t written by a basketball beat writer.

All the best Mr. Gray. Take care of your family. Thanks for the memories.

Another piece from the super bowl team is gone.

Say what you will about this sport.

But at the end of the day, most of these guys seem to go out on their shields, requiring spinal column injuries to call it quits. Real modern-day warriors.

Enjoy retirement, Mr. Gray. You’ve earned a place in Seahawks lore.

Salute

To a true Hawk warrior. Thanks for the memories and the part of you you gave for this team, Chris! I completely agree with jonez.

Walter Jones, you were the greatest, most dominant player I've ever seen at any position. It's been an honor to be your fan.
