Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Right Hook to Seattle?

According to yahoo sports a source from inside the Panther's Camp has considered the thoughts of Trading Steve Smith..

"There have been rumblings out of Panthers camp that club officials are fed up with Smith's actions (not just the latest incident) and are at least considering the idea of dealing him to another team.

The idea of trading one of the best receivers in football seems far-fetched, but Smith has become a divisive force on the team"

What type of addition could Steve Smith bring to the 'hawks and at what personel cost could we get him at?

No thanks.

No way.

Smith is 29, his numbers have been down in 2006 and in 2007. 2005 was his last great year. He also missed games each of the past two seasons. He also has missed games in 5 out of 7 seasons as a pro. Smith is still a great player, but his best years are likely behind him. As he loses speed and his small body continues to take a pounding I am really not sure he will be an elite receiver into his 30’s.

This is the same story as many candidates that have been suggested for the Hawks to pick up. It just isn’t worth bringing on any expensive players who don’t have so many great years left. We have some veterans (burleson, engram, and later branch) and plenty of young receivers. We are going to need to ‘play through’ our lack of a true #1 right now.

Furthermore, Smith has a two game suspension hanging over his head for his last scruff.

I think the 2 game suspension is team mandated, not league.

So he wouldn’t necessarily get it here. But I still don’t want Terrell Owens Jr.

It is team mandated

But it was pre-emptive so that the league wouldn’t step in with a stiffer punishment.

no thanks

Smith is a fine player (although I don’t like the attitude), but if we’re gonna trade away a draft pick for a player I’d rather trade it for a Tackle or Guard.

I think Smith is a ton of fun to watch, and...

he’s played without a lot of help, from his quarterback, running game or from any other receiver. I don’t see any way Seattle signs him, but unlike so many other fantasy trades, I really do think Smith does have the ability to take Seattle to another level. He’s just shy of a Terrell Owens or Randy Moss kind of talent and unlike a Darrell Jackson or Wes Welker, he’s by no means a systems player.

In terms of hypothetical things that are never going to happen?

Sure, I’d love to see Steve Smith as a Hawk. Depending on what it would cost obviously, but you can’t just flat out say “no thanks” to a talent like that.

I would love to go on a cruise with Scarlett Johansson.

Hypothetical scenarios are fun.

In all seriousness, I imagine the Seahawks will be happy to shore up the WR depth via pre-season cuts.

Hell Yeah

Production numbers down? really, really? His quarterback isn’t that good andhe has been hurt a number of times in the last few years. Also his fellow receiving corps was the worst in the league. The other teams only had to key on him.

No Thanks

I already went through the “Jail Blazers” Era here in Portland. I don’t need to go through that again. Tow the line, P.A. Character first!
