Parker cut, Michael Bumpus promoted
Fresh from Danny O'neil from the Times:
Seattle announced it has moved wide receiver Michael Bumpus from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in time for him to play in Sunday's game. To make room for Bumpus, the Seahawks released Samie Parker, who was signed earlier this week.
This makes me a feel a bit more comfortable about Sunday's game. Bumpus knows the offense, and he can return kicks. For an offense very short on WR's who know the system, this is a smart move.
A place to bury strangers.

Best news I have Heard This week
Finally a good move made. Bumpus is sure handed fast and as stated probably more important, he knows the offense well.
Plus He is a Coug! The cougs are struggling this year b/c they don’t know what to do without him!

Bumpus
I was very happy we gave Bumpus a chance after the draft, although I didn’t think he would get much of a chance with all of our young WRs. I was both surprised and impressed when they didn’t cut him again and again.
He had a lot of experience and production in college. I think that even as a rookie he is right now much more ready than Jordan Kent and switching Kent and Bumpus is an intelligent move for the Seahawks. It’s too bad he wasn’t on the roster last week, to get him some experience in that game. But we couldn’t know that Burleson would go down.

The Seahawks like to play with your mind.
Bringing in Parker was just for jokes.
And I’m saving my heavy drinking for tomorrow — especially if we.. well, I don’t want to say it. Go Hawks. :/
Also, you are a light weight :)

Lightweight?
Try me. I’ve had only 3 long islands and I’m feeling pretty good right now. ‘twas foam night at Rumors and I’m soaked in suds as I type this.

Hey I drove by there and saw all the foam
My night went Downtown Bobs, Royal, Esiquas (however you spell it) then the Beaver.
Normally 6 drinks is a buzzed stage but I had this 100% Aguave Tequilathat just kicked my ass.

Bad Religion at El Corazon for me...
… Which would really excite you if you love 30 year old punk bands. Awesome show at a small venue (for them).

This blows.
Yes. Why bring in Parker and have him waste precious reps at practice?
I suppose they had to sign Parker in order for him to disappoint at practice and get cut. He can’t practice without being signed.
Coutu is still on the roster right? That defies all common sense. Ruskell must really think that Coutu will unseat Mare very, very soon. Coutu had been hurt so they must think he will recover and be able to get his kickoffs past the 10? Even if that is the case I think that stinks. Training camp and the preseason was plenty long of a window for Coutu to win the job. It’s senseless losing Kelin Johnson, Kent, or Forsett to keep Coutu on the roster, I highly doubt Coutu wouldn’t have made it to the PS.
I do agree with John though that I don’t think Forsett was going to be a LT/Portis type of every down machine. He had a nice shot of being a Darren Sproles type-of S/T contributor and backup, or maybe even a very cheap Mo Morris.
We should get to see Muscle Buckett hit people today though. Yes.

Well, here's the depth chart.
Flanker: Courtney Taylor
Flanker: Seneca Wallace
Flanker: Jordan Kent (Practice Squad)
Split End: Logan Payne
Split End: Billy McMullen
Split End: Deion Branch (Inactive)
Slot Back: Michael Bumpus
Slot Back: Bobby Engram (Inactive)
Well, I’d feel much, much better with a veteran presence at flanker. Even an over-the-hill, washed-up has-been like Joe Horn or Keenan McCardell would provide me with more comfort out there than the highly touted, yet downright raw Courtney Taylor.
Taylor, who’s been unproductive thus far this season, will hopefully get axed if he once again runs poor routes and drops several passes during today’s game. Hell, when Koren Robinson was screwing up left and right near the end of his tenure here, he at least had the excuse of substance abuse.
This whole debacle also makes me yearn for D.J. Hackett, who’s ironically healthy for the Carolina Panthers in a time that the Seattle Seahawks’ wide receivers are dropping like flies. Oh well, injuries are a part of the game—there’s no doubt about it.

Doesn't that seem a bit rash?
Cutting Taylor. How would that help this team?
by John Morgan on Sep 14, 2008 8:19 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, it'd be a rash move.
It’s that, ugh, I’m totally frustrated after last week’s absolutely atrocious showing. While Joe Horn, Keenan McCardell, or Koren Robinson would be just short-term stopgaps — who, except for Robinson, would need time to acclimate themselves to the West Coast offense by learning the playbook — it might be worth bringing one of ’em in to replace the currently ineffective Courtney Taylor.
Taylor is the least of my worries, however. Right now, it still irks me that Tim Ruskell is allotting two roster spots for placekickers, has grossly overpaid for a short-yardage/goaline running back in T.J. Duckett — especially when Ron Dayne, who’s also a bulldozer, could’ve been obtained with a one-year, minimum-level deal — signed an also-ran in Julius Jones, and released Maurice Morris’ supposed future replacement as a third-down back, Justin Forsett, whose talents as a punt returner and gunner on special teams might’ve come in handy this season.
Yet, despite all of my angst, I nevertheless believe in the ‘hawks. Why, though? I, uh, I don’t know …
by AK1984 on Sep 14, 2008 9:11 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Duckett is more...
He is always stuck into that role…but Duckett could be much better than just a short-yardage back. I wouldn’t mind seeing the smoke clear in a year or two and seeing him as THE guy in Seattle. I think he is good enough and I’d love to see a power runner in Seattle at the end of Matt Hasselbeck’s career.

For solely this season, ...
Michael Pittman is another running back who’d’ve been a better addition than T.J. Duckett. Because Pittman thrives in both short-yardage and third-down passing situations, his versatility would’ve definitely brought a multifaceted attack when he was in the game. Another possibility would’ve been to sign a tough, hard-nosed blocking fullback — such as three-time All-Pro Lorenzo Neal, perhaps — who’d’ve not only filled the void created by the recently retired Mack Strong, but also allowed Leonard Weaver to transition back into his natural position of being a change-of-pace power runner.
Yet, that’s all in the past, for we’re stuck with the one-dimensional, somewhat superfluous Duckett — as Weaver is a younger, more complete version of him —.so I’ll try to make the best of it.

That was in college, however, at Division II school Carson-Newman.
When Weaver entered the NFL, though, he was more of a power runner than a fullback.
I guess that was my main point.

Pittman and Neal, huh?
I’m thinking Red Grange and Jim Thorpe.

Yeah, they're both in their mid-'30s.
Yet, as one-year rentals, either one of them would’ve be fine additions—esepcially with this being Mike Holmgren’s swan song.

Duckett Rules!
Couldn’t agree less. Duckett has a lot of talent, not just as a short yardage back. He has the speed to get to the outside and can catch decently too. He has pretty much only been used as a short yardage back but that doesn’t mean that is all he can do. Have you actually watched him play or just skimmed the stat lines?
He is not a one trick pony. And if he is a one trick pony, it is a trick that is the shit and matters in many types of situations. He can blow guys back on first and 10, second and 10, you name it.
Weaver is a talented runner and pass catcher, he still hasn’t quite made the leap as a run blocker which is what we mainly need him for. He is playing on his RFA tender this year and will likely be gone next year as the Owen Schmitt era begins. I anticipate a very long and not very well publicized career for Shmitt, following in the footsteps of Mack Strong.
Taylor has really sucked but I don’t see much reason to part ways with him. I’m sure he’ll make the practice squad after the two suck fests he put on tape for all the NFL GM’s to vomit over. Payne on IR frees up a roster spot but Seneca’s injury is one where the timetable is tough to predict, meaning someone will have to be cut so we can have enough receivers next week. Cutting Russell (please!), costs us a spot for bringing up Adams, although if this happens I am sure that Wallace or Babs will be the starter. We could solve all our problems by letting Coutu drift to the practice squad but why do that!?

I doubt Weaver leaves. He's a good Ruskell
undrafted pick, and I doubt he’ll want to see him go. In anycase, I doubt they’ll hand the reins to schmitt so earlier.

He said he wasn’t even gonna play McMullen, but since Seneca was down he had to, and he didn’t dislike mcmullen at all.
