Dr. Z's initial power rankings

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/dr_z/09/03/week.1/index.html?eref=T1

Sure, the seahawks are at 11, whatever, we could talk about all those medai drags we put up with. What I want to note is our devision rivals. 27, 28, 29 cards, niners, rams. That's pretty rough. Take a look at the list and tell me where YOU think they belong. I need eight more words, apparrently, for this.

Personally, I think it was lacking more than just eight words.

But this guy’s rankings look somewhat off. Vikings that high? I don’t know; early season power rankings seem silly to me since so much is unknown at this point and will chance in the first few weeks.

vikings could definitely play for the championship

if tarvaris jackson doesn’t screw it up for them. they probably have the best dline in the league, one of the best olines and 2 very good running backs. they’ll be hard to beat every week.

He likes the Vikings to win the super bowl

he wrote about it a month or so ago. They’re kind of his darling team this year I guess.

Here we go.

Capitalize the team names.
Spell check.
Use the link button.
Take a second to correct the formatting.

And if your going to do ranking posts.

Include more sites. ESPN, Yahoo Sports, CBSsportsline all have there rankings. So we can at least compare.

Personally

If its valuable info/breaking news/good debate topic then I don’t care how many words you use. But if its the Sportsline Puts Wrong logo post. Write something more.

Breaking news stuff is acceptable, I think Jeff/Matthew/Graham have the same exception over at LL.

Debate topic should have at least 75 words in my mind, at least enough to direct a clear path of discussion.

As do I.

As such, I bestow upon this blog a wonderful gift that I hope will be used by Mr. Morgan and Scruffy Lefty judiciously.

So lets make sure I get this right

When the Shift key is applied. Then logical discussion must follow in the subthread bellow?

The Chad Jackson FanPost

is a good example of what a shorter FanPost should be.

Yeah

Please don’t take my bitching about certain posters the wrong way. You and Scruffy do a fantastic job here and I just hate to see the overall tone of the site being brought down.

I will say this line is classic
All they do is win division titles and games. The key here is keeping Matt Hasselbeck on the field since he has back issues. The receiving situation isn’t good.

God dammit that's all we do.

Good teams miss the playoffs every other season.

by BrianL on Sep 3, 2008 1:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hit the panic button
The receiving situation isn’t good

Sweet Jesus some guy that knows nothing about this team doesn’t like how many 6th round draft picks from Auburn this team has at WR. Were boned.

power rankings

I stopped consulting them once I started tracking the DVOA ratings more closely. Even if flawed, that’s a better strategy then following whatever whimsy strikes a columnist.

by Will Kier on Sep 3, 2008 1:58 PM PDT   0 recs

Granted

but Paul Zimmerman has been doing this for years and has developed a good bit of humility with his selections. That is to say Dr. Z is kinda the outlier in my opinion when it comes to the whimsies of columnists.

Why? Because the Seahawks rock my socks.

Oh and Chickadee

don’t think that were trying to tell you not to make FanPosts we just want more thought into them. And I still love your additions to the Video Previews.

I knew you still loved me

but this is just icing on the cake.

P.S. I hear you, I just get lazy :(

I feel like averaging all these media rankings

could work like a small sample version of when LL does group projections. Obviously these dudes can (and often do) get shit wrong, but it’s still a pool of minds that expends a lot of energy thinking about the game.

Or do these rankings have too much publication value over projection value?

by iheartjavelinas on Sep 3, 2008 2:30 PM PDT   0 recs

It would fun to take the average rankings of these systems.

And compare them to FO at the end of the season.

Walter Jones, you were the greatest, most dominant player I've ever seen at any position. It's been an honor to be your fan.
