Meet the Bills

So the question I have been feverishly trying to answer these last couple days, but who are these 2008 Buffalo Bills.

Last we heard of them was the sad story of Kevin Everett being stretchered off the field.  JP Losman/Rob Johnson is no longer the starter.  Gone is Thurman Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Travis Henry is too busy being the Shawn Kemp of the NFL, and Willis McGahee is in Baltimore.  Peerless Price has come and gone and come and gone again, Eric Moulds is no more, and Lee Evans....he is the guy you draft in fantasy football and you put him in every week and he gets you like 4 catches for 40 yard, and then when you bench him he has a big 10 catch 140 yd game.  Just frustrating.  Also typically the receivers who have given the Hawks fits are the ones who have the size tofind a hole when we go zone give us fits.  Evans is 5'10. This leads me to the Bills we should know but probably don't.

James Hardy WR 6'5 220lbs, R - Indiana

The guy is big.  Several scouting reports I have read liken him to the same red zone threat as Burress.  Soft hands is also a common theme.   So think Jordan Kent with some more football experience.  He also still has a basketball frame as does Kent, and some good licks to him should make him think less about coming across the middle.  He could get a nasty case of alligator arms.  A problem though if we don't get to Edwards quick enough.

 Jabari Greer RCB 5'11 180lbs, 5th year - Tennessee

The Bills live and die by their pass rush.  Their corners are not good at keeping coverage.  They play a very slow Cover 2.  Like if we had Brian Russell for corners.  But the guy is scrappy.  He also seems to be the target for QB's who have a good idea of their reads.  Also with what little film I could find of him is that he is either going for the interception, or he has lost his receiver.  He also has made Whitner look good.  Whitner is good, but Greer allows to him to be that.  Courtney Taylor will have a hay day with him.  Big big day.

Rian Lindell K 6'3 233kbs, 9th year Washington State U.

Rian Lindell is a douche.

Never Forget

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

Not sure why you think we have a slow Cover 2. Terrence McGee is one of the faster CB’s in the league. Go look up some of his kick return highlights to see his speed.

Jabari Greer is not a blazer, but he’s also pretty fast. Leodis McKelvin was one of the faster CB’s coming into the league this year. Ashton Youboty may not seem as fast as the other, but he ran a 4.39 before the 2006 draft.

Donte Whitner ran in the 4.4’s. So really, I’m not sure why you think the Bills secondary is so slow? Our LB’s aren’t the quickest if that’s what you mean…

I said a slow cover 2. I never once said you didn't have fast DB's.

Understand a slow cover 2 means you guys have a very fluid zone defense. Your defensive assignments are picked up post-play, instead of before the snap. This leads to less huge plays, but lots of soft zone completions.

From what I saw of Greer, he was easily beat on 2nd movement of the receivers going against him. In fact the only DB I saw who had quick skills to recover was McKelvin. Of course what I saw of him was also very limited (Where do you guys go for your video footage?). Greer may be a fine Nickel corner, but to go up against a receiver who can pick apart the zone for you might lead to problems. I don’t foresee Burleson having a big day because I think McGee and Simpson will be doubling him all morning. But I think Taylor is smart enough to get lots of catches, not much YAC, but also the ability to find the seems on a soft secondary is a trait of most Auburn WR’s, as well as Holmgren wideouts.
