This year's SB = a walking nightmare...

First, let me say that maybe I'm giving up a tad early on Baltimore, but they're down early and it isn't looking good.  And after the Iggles relentlessly teased me with a near comeback, I just can't take that kind of stress...

An Arizona Pittsburgh SB?!?  Are you kidding me?  I mean seriously, can there be a greater cap of a hellish year for Seattle sports fans than this debacle.  Our weak-sister division rival and perhaps worst regular season team EVER to make the post-season vs. the team most of us haven't forgotten nor forgiven for the highway robbery of SB XL.

I try to be a better man and not hate, but how can I find anything, anything at all to take from this matchup to enjoy?  I don't want to watch a game solely to see players get hurt (though karma dictates Hines Ward deserves a career-ender every time he walks on the field, the dirty bastard.)

I will be forced to support Arizona, that's how much I dislike Pittsburgh, but that being said, I have no faith they can (without assistance ala Stealers in XL) win the game.

So, this SB I believe I will be on either a golf course or snowboarding, whichever the weather shows to be the better choice for this Washingtonian transplanted to Denver.  I'm sick and tired of our teams and our city getting karmically crapped on, and I'm walking away from this year's zero sum game.

Sickened in the Mile High City,
Whiskey Chainsaw.

I have no idea what Seattle has done

to deserve the horrific Karma that has befallen it’s sports world this last year. I would love to know so I can do something about it.

Yeah, completely agree.

I doubt I’ll even watch the Super Bowl unless the Ravens win tonight.

I refused to watch last year's superbowl

and I’ll probably skip out on this one as well. Though if Big Ben gets carted off the field, I’ll be sorry I missed it.

Ditto. Even moreso if Hines Ward painfully tears his ACL and writhes in pain

just so that fucking smirk will be wiped off his goddamn face.

If I could throw up in my mouth right now, I would.

I hate the Stealers.
Arizona is our division rival.

Yech.

Yea I think I'm skipping this one

No matter how little I care I always watch the SB, but this time…ugh! Both teams are the two teams I hate most in the NFL (I don’t know how the Cardinals passed the rams last year, but they did it). All I can say is…..at least there’s next year…

It's my fault.

I used to relentlessly troll in favor of all local sports teams at a high-traffic sports forum for a long time.

There could be this:

The only good news that could come of this is Kurt Warner retiring after the Super Bowl. Matt Leinart would be a good thing.

by Misfit74 on Jan 18, 2009 8:55 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, we need the Cardinals to win.

Then the black and piss yellow will lose, Warner may retire, all their FAs (including Dansby and Warner) values are grossly inflated, they get the worst draft pick, light a fire under our team’s collective ass, etc…

I didn't know you visited Field Gulls, Mr. McNabb.

Sorry about your loss yesterday.

Well, this is the only matchup that I'd root for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.

Since I’ve somehow survived to talk about the horrible memories of Super Bowl XL, I can assuredly stomach once again watching a pudgy Ben Rothlisberger, an ethnically diverse Hines Ward, a scraggily-haired Troy Polamalu, and an anemic looking Dan Rooney hoist up the Vince Lombardi Trophy — while Steeler Nation vigorously waves their Terrible Towles in the stands — yet, without question it’d be an entirely different matter if the anemic Arizona Cardinals won itself a goddamn championship.

So, If the Cardinals pull off an amazing upset in two weeks, I’ll only be able to think about how that should’ve been the Seattle Seahawks’ moment of glory. Dammit, it’s frustrating to even contemplate this motherfucking shit being a realistic possibility. Ugh …

by AK1984 on Jan 19, 2009 5:46 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I won't mind the game near as much as the build up to it.

2 solid weeks of “last time the Steelers were here ….” and repays of every gut-wrenching moment are going to be on an endless loop on ESPN. Guh.

I can’t bring myself to root for either team. But I figure a Steelers win will be the least painful option – I’ve already seen them win it in the worst possible way … so what’s one more? I couldn’t bear it if the Cards pull off what we couldn’t, and we’re the only team left in the division without a title.

by jteckmann on Jan 19, 2009 7:34 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I still don't see the Carinals as our 'hated rivals'

It’s been the rams for the past 8 or so years.
Last year they were supposed to challenge us, and didn’t really.
This year, they won the division, but if we were 10-6 and had won both or just one of our games against the cardinals, they would’ve been 8-8 or 7-9 and not really challenged us.
So, I’m rooting for the Cards since I’m fairly ambivalent towards them and hate the Steelers more than any team. I’ll probably not watch the game though, or not much of it.

+1

They’ve been our door mat for a while now, one day it was bound to happen the other way.

their depth of MLB-ready or nearly ready talent is frightening.

You don’t even hear much about Jake McGee and Wade Davis and those guys were nearly as heralded as Price.

From my perspective..

I can’t root for the Cardinals at all. That goes from every single team in our division, Rams, Cardinals or…laughs the 49ers. Especially this case where they are playing the Steelers…for the Cardinals to succeed where we failed (legitimate or not) a few years ago, against the same team, is a pretty massive cock punch. While the loss to the Steelers sucked, I can move on from that. The thought of having to play the Cards twice a year every year, hearing the announcers mention how amazing the Cards super bowl run was, hearing Cards fans talk about how they’ve won a SB and we haven’t, seeing the camera pan to the banner is too much for me to want to stomach.

So as much as it pains me to say it; Go Steelers, show the world these pansy ass clowns are as big of a fraud that we all know they are.

by gumbostu on Jan 19, 2009 9:19 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

If it were a different Steelers team, I might agree.

But this is a fairly similar one to the one we played, so I hate the Steelers.

by LantermanC on Jan 19, 2009 9:31 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

for me that's the very reason why I can't

For the Cardinals to beat the very team that beat us on the highest stage is super demoralizing to me. I can understand why you feel the way you do about, and I hate the Steelers as much as the next guy, a division rival winning just trumps everything else in my eyes.

by gumbostu on Jan 19, 2009 11:39 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Fear not, for these alleged Cardinals fans you speak of do not really exist.

They’re an urban legend, like Bigfoot.

I don't mind the Cardinals gloating

as much as I would mind seeing Hines Ward victorious again. God damn I hate that prick.

Don't forget

if the steelers win, they will have the most championships of any franchise. You will hear endless gloating about that, as well as endless amounts of “discussions” and “debates” about whether the steelers are the greatest franchise of all time. And that will last all the way up until the next season.

by Fear on Jan 19, 2009 10:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I totally agree that "for the Cardinals to succeed where we failed [...] is a pretty massive cock punch."

It, however, would be even worse than that analogy. Hell, in my warped and twisted mind, I’d compare the Arizona Cardinals beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII to getting kicked in the scrotum by a more successful brother who’s fucking your dream girl, suffering testicular torsion from the incident, and having one of your balls surgically removed in an almost symbolic fashion.

If the Arizona Cardinals win a NFL championship, then it’d basically create a dent to my sports manhood — as well as to my pride as a native Washingtonian — which’d even surpass that of, well, Super Bowl XL.

by AK1984 on Jan 19, 2009 10:18 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Nothing can surpass

the utter hatred most of us feel over XL. If you were watching the game, and were a Seahawks fan at the time, then nothing can hurt more than that.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

I'm rooting for Pittsburgh to win....

…in a tight, controversy riddled game with about twenty very questionable calls in Pitt’s favour.

So correct me if I'm wrong,

but shouldn’t the title of this post be ‘This year’s superbowl is a WAKING nightmare’?

My God...

We sound like a bunch of pussies…The Cardinals are good…WAWAWAHH….I hate Hines Ward…WAWAWAWHHH…I want Big Ben to hurt his leg…WAWAWAWAHHHHH…I can’t bear to watch the Super Bowl…I’m going fishing with so I can be alone…Are we 11? Are we taking out ball and going home? For the love of god, someone on this board man up and accept that when a team in your division has receivers that your secondary can’t cover because their healthy and talented…you lose…when your own receiving core is resigning Koren Robinson to line up with Keary Colbert…you lose…win a game on the road for godsake…pressure the QB for godsake…stop drafting untalented “character” guys…When you do make it back to the Super Bowl…Don’t let your Tight End get in a newspaper war of words fight with the opposing teams linebacker…JS went into that game and pissed away what little composure that his “low” character body could hold…catch the goddamn ball…hey, how about some clock management from the sidelines before the end of a half? If Randle El gets the ball on a reverse…let’s all say it…he was a former QB…he might have the option to pass…so you might not want to get sucked over to the run side while HINES FUCKING WARD RUNS BY YOU WIDE FUCKING OPEN WITH FUCKING THAT SMIRK ON HIS FUCKING FACE…come on guys…those calls were terrible but we still had chances to not shoot our seahawk claw off…oh nooooo, we went at it with a machine gun and then stuffed a grenade in our pants…Anyway…I’m wanting a Cardinal victory because I want to see that smirk come off of Hines’ face as much as any of you…I’m also wanting fewer bone head decisions from the front office starting with pick # 4…

To be fair, I believe the Randel El Pass and the Parker long run

were the fault of Ertric Pruitt, our 3rd safety after Hamlin and Marquand Manuel were both injured.

A Steelers fan on this site?

And just to make this comment? Looks like someone else hasn’t ‘gotten over it’. And by ‘it’, I mean one of many incorrect calls that cheapened your victory.

Followed Frog. . .

Over here because I was interested in his “rage’d brick o’texts” against the Steelers on the Cards site. Oh, and there was only one incorrect call.
