Thoughts on Rhett Bomar?
I haven't seen the guy play at all, and obviously with the car dealership debacle in his past he could have too many "character issues" for TR to be interested in, but this article got me interested in him as someone that could be a later round gem.
http://newsok.com/ex-ou-quarterback-rhett-bomar-sets-sights-on-nfl/article/3339584
"The 6-foot-2, 224-pound Bomar will be eligible the NFL draft, while Bradford is returning for his junior season. Despite playing in only 19 games for Sam Houston State, Bomar finished as the school's career leader in passing and total offense. "
Former OU Reciever Juaquin Iglesias on Bomar vs. Bradford:
"He also isn't counting out the possibility that the Sooners could have had just as much success with Bomar taking snaps instead of Bradford.
'The success would have been the same, if not better,' Iglesias said. 'I really believe in Rhett's talent and what he can do on the field. They're both good quarterbacks, so I don't think it would have mattered who would have been in.' "
Has anyone seen him play? He looks like an intriguing development prospect with the tools to be a starter, and the tarnished background that would allow for a 4-6 round pick range.
Thoughts?
A place to bury strangers.

Did Ruskell change his mantra of tarnished backgrounds = no-no?

I don't believe so.
But after this season, he might be changing up his strategy a bit? Just a guess though, no substantial reasoning.

TR's character test
I’ve always felt it leans more towards hard worker, maximizes talent, buys into team concept, not going to have personal demons or behavioral problems that turn into a locker room distraction. I’ve never taken it to mean that a guy has to be a total boy-scout in every aspect.
Personally, I think TR’s is more likely to pass on Bomar because his success came at Sam Houston St. vs. the Southland Conference, not because he fell to the temptation of boosters when he was a 19yr old.

Well.. go ahead and get him in the 4th
We’ll be getting Oher in the 1st and Robinson in the 3rd, so I don’t think we really need a lineman with the 4th rounder.

WROOOOOOOOOONG!
Crabtree. Robinson will be gone by the 3rd. And speaking of which, I’m sort of leaning towards Unger because of his versatility.

Don't mock, Ray Willis has turned out to be great for a 4th rounder.

As John has pointed out, the much-maligned Rob Sims is not such a bad player either.

I'm not sold on him.
I’m not going to go all TNT-esque and proclaim him a steaming pile of crap unworthy of any professional sports, but I’ll say that while he’s far from adequate or ideal , I’m cautiously optimistic that he can be a serviceable starter.

I think you have to count in his age
when making a judgement. 2007, when he played a halfway adequate LG, he was only 23. There’s a lot of room for development and improvement.
