I'm rooting for the Falcons and Colts today. Love Matt Ryan and love Peyton Manning.... like serious man love.

Same here.
The playoff seeding really needs to be changed though. The Colts (12-4) should not have to play on the road against a team that went 8-8. I still think the Chargers are getting the surprise win today though. Same with the Cardinals.

Dan Patrick asks Matt Millen
“How responsible were you for this Lions season?”
…. ouch
You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

I hate Larry Fitzgerald.
But he is really, really good.

I just hate every NFC West team
Gotta get some good old fashioned rivalry going here.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 2:39 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm actually rooting for the Cards
I figure it makes our conference look less bad.
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 2:45 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
That doesn't make the Seahawks suck any less.
Rooting for the Cards is like a Bears fan rooting for the Packers…Seahawks fans aren’t there yet, but I think this team needs rivals.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 2:47 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, but at least people will think we suck less.
And our division might get more respect.
Kind of weird since I don’t really care what people think, but I hate when people say that the NFC West (and AFC West now) shouldn’t even get a playoff spot.

It sounds a lot like what Rudy Giuliani said last year.
For the Red Sox-Rockies World Series, Yankee lover Giuliani said he was rooting for the Red Sox because “I’m an American League Fan.”

Peyton Manning wasn’t this good his rookie season.

Sanchez is an impressive athlete.
He’s a great quarterback to sit for a season and let mature, because the talent is special.

What are the chances that his 'legal troubles'
despite being absolved of an accusations, causes Ruskell to dismiss the notion of drafting him (or at least downgrade his rating to the point that only if he has a Rodgers-like slide do we draft him?)?
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 3:02 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Couldn't we protect ourselves
in the contract? then let it go?
It is what it is...
by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 3:05 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
No the legal troubles I was referring to were incidents in the past,
not possible future incidents. But I am also an advocating drafting him, though it really depends on where his stock is. If he is in the 15 or so range, than hell yeah trade down and draft him, if he’s in the top 5? Not quite so sure I’d be willing to spend 60 million quid on him.
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 3:08 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Would you take risk on WR/QB
or go safe and take whatever OT available?
It is what it is...
by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 3:13 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
If the OT we take is guaranteed to be good as the last two high LT picks
then the OT. But I’ve heard that all three top tackles have some possible warning flag weaknesses in the game.

Good Run D.... there, Turner just walked 10 yards for a td.
Arizona’s defense is so bad, too bad we weren’t at full strength on offense, we could’ve had some 50-50 shootouts.

Hello everyone I have been checking out this site everyday ever since the start of the season and ive just now made an account..so yeah..I really like the discussions that take place here and I appreciate the work that John and all of the other people who put this site together.
That said, the Cardinals pass rush is doing pretty good today. Do you think thats a main problem the Seahawks defense was so bad? Any quarterback can pick apart a defense with ample time, so do you think the Hawks pass rush is responsible for the regression of the whole defense?
Adding to that..Im now torn between the Hawks drafting an OL/QB/DL. Maybe we could get some pass rush in free agency?
by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:04 PM PST reply actions 0 recs

Yeah, I am also confused by that call....
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:07 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Forward progress is one thing, but the quarterback can still pass the ball.
That seems kinda stupid.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:08 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Can't they challenge it?
He wasn’t down… no knee down… normal pass?
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:08 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
It's a legitimate call.
Just a stupid one.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
That's dumb. The if an official calls it dead, and he's wrong,
then he should be shot dead. Officials should err on the side of caution. How can you call it dead after a second or two?
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:12 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Eli Manning was wrapped.
The defense is screwed though, they can’t throw the quarterback down, so they just have to hold them.

I saw it.
There’s no single answer to why Seattle’s defense played so poorly.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know the numbers, but the Hawks went from one of the better pass rushing teams to one of the worse
That, along with a lot of other stuff, definitely hurt them.
by Nate Dogg on Jan 3, 2009 4:18 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Is there someone/thing
that tracks average time it takes a QB to throw? That’d be interesting, and a stat for defenses as well, average time allowed before a throw/sack/Qb crosses line of scrimmage on a scramble?
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:18 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Nope.
That would be an awesome stat.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:21 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
wouldn't it be mostly dependent on offensive play calling?
by Nate Dogg on Jan 3, 2009 4:22 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes
You would have to factor in 3, 5, 7 step drops, screens and play action, but there should still be a large enough sample to get interesting results.

Didn’t Forsett run like a 4.6?
by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:22 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs

Forsett could be somewhat like Sproles, but Norwood is in another league.
by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:24 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Not according to Madden

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:25 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Not sure, I think he was 97
but that was 3 years into the game, and he didn’t do so well apparently his first 3 years (not sure how)
by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:27 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I know, they only have the 'explosive little back' thing in common
but Forsett isn’t that fast. And Norwood isn’t that small, just seems small like a Jones-Drew or something.

How does complete failure at the subject about which you are speaking qualify you as an ‘expert’?
It almost has a Bizzaro world quality to it. Perhaps the exact opposite of everything Millien says is in fact solid analysis.

I walked into New Seasons after an 11 hour shift and went straight to the beer department, saw the sixer, said “Holy shit, Ruination IPA in a six-pack” and got a big smile from the dude stocking the shelves. I’m wicked pumped.

That's amazing.
For now I’m pretty much going with kegs though, as I’m going to be using a kegerator from here on out in my house starting Monday. I am planning on taking a road trip down to Escondido for a keg or two of ruination for my bar next summer though. Totally worth it.

Not if you use Co2 to tap them. I did my research before buying this, and apparently if you use a 5 pound Co2 tank (which is what my kegerator comes with) the beer can stay fresh for up to a month.

Once the bar is built I'm gonna put an optional tip jar.
Most of my friends are usually buying the alcohol so I’m not gonna force anyone to pay if they don’t want to.
Until we hammer the wood together though it’s just gonna be a kegerator to drink out of and a pile of wood in the garage.

I remember watching him at K-State
He was death in the 4th quarter, after defenders have started to tire. They don’t break down or they’re a little slow to the spot but he still has his burst.
The only thing he lacks is vision. He pretty much runs in a straight line.

I would love to see Mebane as a DE
need a big dog… I’m dreaming again

I kind of like the 3-4 defense...
I wouldn’t mind getting Maluega and going 3-4… But are our DEs way too small for it (besides Kerney?)

It would be a disaster
nothing wrong with a 4-3.

LOL
Yes, our LB’s are a bit smalll… we could fix that quickly… especially with Hill potentially moving on

You do love your 3-3-5

It's a fine system
That we don’t have one player fit for.

How so, what's the difference between our LBs and
NEs or Pitt’s?

Size, 3-4 outside linebackers are defensive ends standing up

John took time after I broke it down a few months ago
and pointed out that we are not prepared for it, in terms of personnel… it is a no go…
I am not convinced… but I am a superior hack

When Peterson puts his hand down
we are 3-4

All of them?
I don’t see Bruschi as being any bigger or smarter than Tatupu.
And Peterson would fit then.
Plus, if they were all DEs, than the front 7 would be 3 DTs (judging from the Chargers D-lines) and 4 DEs, which would be horrible in pass coverage, no?

I have the numbers somewhere... but suffice it to say
John is correct… kind of :)

I believe two big linebackers
and move mebane and benerard to DE… and on big DT (the big hole in the whole scheme for us) and we are in

That's a lot of talent to acquire with no definite gain.

When you are dead last in Passing,
and near the bottom in Rush, no where to go but up :)

We can acquire the talent...
and play it like AZ… we are missing the big body… Mr. Brace from BC would suffice…
it is very, very doable in one year with the talent we have… we have the 5 tech… and as we all know, that is the key

Though we don't have the personnel for it,
And I’m not sure if any team does – but I would LOVE to see us play an all out 46. Tell me Brian Russell wouldn’t be MVP and Defensive POY.

Talent can be hot.
Sure as shit hotter than empty headed, money grubbing bimbos.

I love brainless bimbos.
But not money grubbers. If a bitch tries to stick her hand in my wallet, I’m gonna take the hand and put it in my trophy case.

I think LoJack could have a chance in a 3-4. He plays some DT, right?
by Misfit74 on Jan 3, 2009 8:51 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sure
He’s not prototypical, but damn close. Bane would be awesome as the other end. Red Bryant could theoretically play some nose, although I think we’d really need to find one. Peterson would be one hell of a perfect 3-4 OLB, despite his apparent lack of size. We all know what he does to way bigger OTs when he puts his hand down. Tatupu should fit.
We’d need a really good Ted backer(2nd MLB) and another OLB/DE hybrid, preferably one with more prototypical size than Peterson to help them stand up against the run.
So besides what we have, we’d need a Nose(an awesome nose is hugely critical for the 3-4), another MLB, one that has serious size, and an OLB/DE hybrid with size. There is no way Ruskell would add three front 7 players with size, let alone sign off on a change to the 3-4.
Not that I really would like to see that. Tatupu should be more productive in the 4-3 roaming the whole field, Peterson(perhaps the biggest pro for a 3-4) isn’t gonna be around forever and we already use his skills as if he were in the 3-4, Mebane would be equally disruptive in either scheme, and the 4-3 holds up better naturally against the run, unless you truly get those monster front 7 players, none of which we have.
