I'm rooting for the Falcons and Colts today. Love Matt Ryan and love Peyton Manning.... like serious man love.

Same here.

The playoff seeding really needs to be changed though. The Colts (12-4) should not have to play on the road against a team that went 8-8. I still think the Chargers are getting the surprise win today though. Same with the Cardinals.

Dan Patrick asks Matt Millen

“How responsible were you for this Lions season?”

…. ouch

You may gain some yards on the ground, but eventually Lofa will end up biting you in the ass.

AZ

may be shooting their load… this reminds me of the feeling I had with the ’Hawks in GB

I just hate every NFC West team

Gotta get some good old fashioned rivalry going here.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 2:39 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm torn

I am unused to watching the playoffs as a unattached observer… f it… go Falcons

by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 2:43 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm actually rooting for the Cards

I figure it makes our conference look less bad.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 2:45 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That doesn't make the Seahawks suck any less.

Rooting for the Cards is like a Bears fan rooting for the Packers…Seahawks fans aren’t there yet, but I think this team needs rivals.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 2:47 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, but at least people will think we suck less.

And our division might get more respect.

Kind of weird since I don’t really care what people think, but I hate when people say that the NFC West (and AFC West now) shouldn’t even get a playoff spot.

It sounds a lot like what Rudy Giuliani said last year.

For the Red Sox-Rockies World Series, Yankee lover Giuliani said he was rooting for the Red Sox because “I’m an American League Fan.”

It's unlikely anyone is this good.

Peyton Manning wasn’t this good his rookie season.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 2:48 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

most likely similar to a six-pack, 500 yard hotie

Sanchez is an impressive athlete.

He’s a great quarterback to sit for a season and let mature, because the talent is special.

What are the chances that his 'legal troubles'

despite being absolved of an accusations, causes Ruskell to dismiss the notion of drafting him (or at least downgrade his rating to the point that only if he has a Rodgers-like slide do we draft him?)?

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 3:02 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 3:05 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No the legal troubles I was referring to were incidents in the past,

not possible future incidents. But I am also an advocating drafting him, though it really depends on where his stock is. If he is in the 15 or so range, than hell yeah trade down and draft him, if he’s in the top 5? Not quite so sure I’d be willing to spend 60 million quid on him.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 3:08 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Would you take risk on WR/QB

or go safe and take whatever OT available?

It is what it is...

by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 3:13 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If the OT we take is guaranteed to be good as the last two high LT picks

then the OT. But I’ve heard that all three top tackles have some possible warning flag weaknesses in the game.

Good Run D.... there, Turner just walked 10 yards for a td.

Arizona’s defense is so bad, too bad we weren’t at full strength on offense, we could’ve had some 50-50 shootouts.

Hello everyone I have been checking out this site everyday ever since the start of the season and ive just now made an account..so yeah..I really like the discussions that take place here and I appreciate the work that John and all of the other people who put this site together.

That said, the Cardinals pass rush is doing pretty good today. Do you think thats a main problem the Seahawks defense was so bad? Any quarterback can pick apart a defense with ample time, so do you think the Hawks pass rush is responsible for the regression of the whole defense?

Adding to that..Im now torn between the Hawks drafting an OL/QB/DL. Maybe we could get some pass rush in free agency?

by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:04 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What the crap?

You don’t need to tackle the guy anymore?

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:06 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Can't they challenge it?

He wasn’t down… no knee down… normal pass?

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:08 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nope.

Official called it dead.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:10 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's dumb. The if an official calls it dead, and he's wrong,

then he should be shot dead. Officials should err on the side of caution. How can you call it dead after a second or two?

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:12 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Eli Manning was wrapped.

The defense is screwed though, they can’t throw the quarterback down, so they just have to hold them.

Oh and sorry for the re-post. I didn’t think anyone caught the first one because I didn’t reply.

by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:15 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I saw it.

There’s no single answer to why Seattle’s defense played so poorly.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:17 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Is there someone/thing

that tracks average time it takes a QB to throw? That’d be interesting, and a stat for defenses as well, average time allowed before a throw/sack/Qb crosses line of scrimmage on a scramble?

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:18 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nope.

That would be an awesome stat.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:21 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes

You would have to factor in 3, 5, 7 step drops, screens and play action, but there should still be a large enough sample to get interesting results.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:26 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Smart play.

Those five yards are essential.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:16 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep.

Forsett could be somewhat like Sproles, but Norwood is in another league.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:24 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not according to Madden

I think it’s 97 and 98 Speed. Not sure about acceleration. Funny how my team has Norwood, Sproles, and Chris Johnson.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:25 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, I know, they only have the 'explosive little back' thing in common

but Forsett isn’t that fast. And Norwood isn’t that small, just seems small like a Jones-Drew or something.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:24 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

we should time our 40s. I’ve always wondered what mine would be…

I hate Chris Collinsworth

Whether its on Madden(where we already here enough of him), or on tv, he always says the predictable things. If he is so smart why is he not a coach?

by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:29 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As opposed to get paid more to do a long hours high stress job.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:30 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

For some reason I like the guy...

And I’m sure I’m in the large minority. I can’t explain why, either.

Although I can’t listen to Madden with the sound on anymore. Ugh.

The worst part is how everyone defers to him. Enough already. He’s so smug it’s unbearable.

Both of them are slow though, but Hightowers footwork is much better I think.

by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:33 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, there goes my bandwagon team.

Go Ravens, I guess. Flacco isn’t nearly as sexy as Matt Ryan though.

by AtomicGarden on Jan 3, 2009 4:36 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep, go Ravens

How awesome would that have been, Matt Ryan, rookie QB, to drive down the field with 2 minutes left for the game winning TD?

by Seahawks CHS on Jan 3, 2009 4:37 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Once a Seattle team is out, I don't root for other teams to win.

Just certain teams to lose. I hope the Giants and Colts and Steelers all lose as early as possible.

by LantermanC on Jan 3, 2009 4:37 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Its always easy to root for rookies. Because well, they are rookies.

Don’t you WANT a Manning/Manning Super Bowl!?

by Azimeir on Jan 3, 2009 4:42 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

But you know the reporters and NFL execs are shortstroking the possibility all over the place…

by Azimeir on Jan 3, 2009 4:46 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep.

Though a team with a huge metropolitan area(s) like San Diego/LA, that’s got a ton of (capital S) Superstars is equally if not more exciting. Yay, money!

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 4:50 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If both Mannings get injured on the first offensive play of the game

Say…. Bob Sanders tackles a going-out-of-bounds Eli into Peyton who’s standing on the sideline and both injure their knees/backs/heads/balls, then yes, I would want that. Otherwise, give me Ravens… Cardinals?

Bear the thought of an 8-8 team in the Super Bowl.

by Azimeir on Jan 3, 2009 4:48 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No...

I know they’re the best 8-8 team that I’ve ever seen.

But still, 8-8 (or even 9-7) would kinda invalidate the regular season for me. : (

How does complete failure at the subject about which you are speaking qualify you as an ‘expert’?
It almost has a Bizzaro world quality to it. Perhaps the exact opposite of everything Millien says is in fact solid analysis.

Once the bar is built I'm gonna put an optional tip jar.

Most of my friends are usually buying the alcohol so I’m not gonna force anyone to pay if they don’t want to.

Until we hammer the wood together though it’s just gonna be a kegerator to drink out of and a pile of wood in the garage.

Speaking of which,

I went to QFC over thanksgiving to buy some holiday beer or beer that some of you recommended, and they had crap for selection. One of these days I’m going to write down a list of all the recommendations on here, LL, and USSM, and try them all (not in one sitting of course).

Check next to the chilled wines too.

They’ll have a few big bottles of beer from the better breweries

How long does it take to build a bar anyways?

Is it like 6 guys can work all day and build it? Or like a week long thing?

I thought you said 'moron' at first,

and I was going to respond with… how is that not insulting?

And nope, not mormon. I don’t think I know a single mormon actually. I just don’t like spending money or consuming too many calories (unless it’s candy).

Probably a weekend.

I’ve got a list of about 60 cuts to make, and my friend is gonna bring his miter saw over. He’s a grunt worker on assembly at Boeing, so he’s fairly handy. He’s just been working 12 hour shifts, otherwise it would’ve been done.

300 beers in a year

I might have done that this year.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 5:20 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think it's something like 180 10 oz. cups per keg.

I use 12 oz classic glass beer mugs, so I have enough for a party and the rest of the month.

Is it possible for a human being to open their mouth any wider

than when he is scooping up the heartiness? Nevermind, I don’t want to know.

Well you have to open your mouth like that

or else the huge chunks won’t fit inside.

And after a hard day’s work, a man’s gotta eat his meat chunks!

So I suppose I'm in the minority, but I've got my #18 Manning jersey on so....go Colts!

Actually, my four favorite teams in the playoffs, the only non-Hawks teams I root for are all playing each other in the front round. These two, the Vikes, and the Eagles.

Bolts, Giants

The two teams I wanted in the SB if the hawks didn’t make it.

Ugoh sucks

Love how Peyton Manning’s awesomeness has convinced some that he’s anything but a garbage left tackle.

Love that sentence

“only Seatle was worse.”

by Dukeshire on Jan 3, 2009 5:31 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Shout out for Seattle!

Seahawks worse than Chargers at pass d. Wha-what!

That hurt.

Jacob Hester is San Diego’s third string running back. That’s not smart.

Why would anyone ever buy into a "McDonald's cares as much about their quality ingredients as you do" commercial?

Does this mean they assume most people don’t care about the ingredients they buy and enjoy eating food that tastes revolting?

They're 'healthy' stuff is actually ok, the small chicken wrap stuff.

And the seattletimes came out with an article that says that the nutritional info at restaurants have not affected eating habits. It’s not ingredients, but it’s still something.

There's a reason his is the only non Seattle jersey/shirt I've ever bought that hasn't come from visiting the team's actual stadium.

There’s no doubt in my mind that when all is said and done Peyton will be the best QB who ever lived.

And a huge testament to the importance of a quarterback.

I think people rebel against the idea because it’s a cliche, but imagine a Colts team with a Manning level left tackle but an Ugoh level quarterback.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 6:06 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Even thinking that is kind of disheartening.

I wouldn’t want to not be able to watch him play. I’m jealous of fans in Indianapolis who get to see him every week. I’ve almost considered downloading Colts games just to see him play.

Regardless, I think QB is the most interesting position on the field and I agree, a good QB is more fun to watch than just about anything.

Not being contrary, just asking

but you rank him above Brady? (Assuming both are at their best etc etc)

I love watching both, but (assuming healthy etc) if I was building a team from scratch, I am unsure which I would take.

by GarethLewin on Jan 3, 2009 6:12 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Definitely Manning.

Brady gets a ton of credit for his team’s Super Bowl victories. Brady is a great quarterback; Manning is the greatest quarterback since Unitas, maybe ever.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 6:18 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wasn't it you who said this?

Brady will be compared with Montana, but Manning will be compared with Unitas

Maybe it's just me, but the success of Matt Cassel makes me feel that Brady's accomplishments aren't as great.

If Matt Cassel can run a 90 passer rating in that system…

Regardless, I think Brady’s talent around him makes him look better. I think Manning makes his talent around him look better.

But he had a Passer rating of 90 and got them to 11-5.

I don’t see how that’s a lack of success. Maybe he was lucky, maybe Belichick’s system is just good, but I don’t see how you can look at Matt Cassel’s 2008 and say it was a “lack of success”. Maybe he played above his talent level but still.

Sorry, I should be more clear

I’m saying that with Casell they are 11-5 and a good team.
With Brady they would be (pulling number out of my ass 13-3, 16-0, who knows?

I’m saying Brady makes a good team great. (Not to say Manning doesn’t make a bad team great hehe)

I counted

it took 426 steps for Sproles to run ten yards.

by John Morgan on Jan 3, 2009 6:20 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

haha

(Sorry)

To make this not a throw away post, I’ll ask. Do you think Madden is being literal when he says they can’t see him behind the OL? If so isn’t that a huge advantage for short runners?

by GarethLewin on Jan 3, 2009 6:21 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe

I think maybe height just isn’t that important to running the ball and Sproles is just a good running back.

Can Forsette

be like that… does he have Sproles speed?

by kidder95 on Jan 3, 2009 6:26 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably not.

But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be good. He’s a smarter rusher that’s less boom and bust, but not as athletic.
