Seahawks Expats Forum

I've heard a few comments here and there from folks who no longer live in the Pacific Northwest, and therefore cannot watch our Hawks each week on local TV.

I grew up listening to my dad complain about the East Coast bias, and never really gave it much credence. But now, seeing how rarely our games play in any other states than Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, I get it. Nobody sees us. I went to work on Monday, and none of my coworkers even KNEW that the Seahawks had laid a colossal butt whooping on the Jags. Boo!

I was planning on complaining for a while about how much it sucks to live in another team's market, but I think it'd be better to keep this short (ish) and open it up to ask other people about their experiences. I know my 40 minute drive home would be more enjoyable knowing other people were going through similar experiences. Care to share?

New Yorker for 8 years and counting

Come fall each year I spend Sunday afternoons at random local sports bars (wherever I could find NFL ticket) and for a long time I was the lone 12th Man among a bunch of Giants and Jets fans. Luckily this year I found out about a Seahawks bar in Manhattan and I’ve been watching games with fellow fans! It’s great….good group of people, drink specials, free food and the ’Hawks (with sound) on the big screens!

In Hawaii for the last 5 years or so.

We get Seahawks every so often. You go to the bars for Sunday and the Hawks get the tv’s in the corner that have bad lighting and picture. No one out here cares or knows anything about the Hawks. The Large market teams and trendy winning teams dominate the landscape.

Damn I am glad I bought Sunday Ticket.

Do! It's a blast.

I’ve been meaning to do a fanpost like this to let fellow non-NW residents share in the fun. I’ll be the bearded one in the bright green Tatupu jersey and camo ’Hawks hat.

Carlow East right?

You are talking about NYCeahawks, the meetup.com group I am guessing..

I lived in NYC as that group was getting going, the 2007 season at Crow’s Nest was awesome.. I remember how crazy the place went when Darryl Tapp forced that fumble with the cast on his hand.

Correct indeed.

I wish I’d known about it back then, but I’m absolutely loving it now. Out of my neighborhood but totally worth the travel….it beats the hell out of being the only one cheering the Seahawks at my local bar.

I'm not an expat

but I’m an Irish guy living in Dublin. Spent the last few years trawling through sites like justin.tv every Sunday but nfl.com set up a gamepass for people outside the US this year. It cost 240 dollars but I can watch any game in HD, which is great. Oh, and with the time difference, I go to bed at 4am every Sunday night, words can’t describe what a bitch Monday morning at work is

by ciarannh on Oct 14, 2009 8:29 AM PDT reply actions

The gamepass was available last year

For something like 600 bucks.

It’s getting more reasonable, but 280 bucks (which it is here in the Netherlands) is still a bit steep for a poor student like me.

Moved to Nashville just prior to this season.

I’m really glad for services like justin.tv and channelsurfing.net.

Salt Lake

I used to go to a sports bar to watch Seahawks games whenever they weren’t on TV (most of the time). Now I don’t have TV and trying to save money so I turn to justin.tv type sites. The quality sucks usually but at least I can tell what is going on. I know I will appriciate it even more when I move back to the NW and can watch games, then again when I have enough money for that 54 in plasma.

Los Angeles here

I’ve found two Steelers bars in my neighborhood but nowhere to watch the Seahawks. Only game I haven’t watched a crap stream of was the first game when DirecTV had a free preview of the NFL package.

Pittsburgh here

I get a lot of stares and glares on Sunday when I rock a non Steelers jersey, especially the Hawks jersey.

My buddy and I went in on an NFL ticket package so that we might watch our beloved Hawks.

That has to be the worst situation possible.

Seahawks fan living in Pittsburgh. Tell me you weren’t living there in 2005-06.

Lucky for me

I just moved here in August, so it’s not as horrible as it could have been were I there in 05 and 06. Some people are pretty cool and talk about what an ugly game it was, other people are downright confrontational.

Upon meeting a fellow new student he inquire as to my former locale and I told him, “Seattle.” His immediate response was, “You know the Seahawks suck right?” He refused to believe me when I told him they were one of the winningest franchises of the decade too.

I'm cool with arguing with other fans over opinions.

But I hate it when I have to argue facts. Facts are facts. There’s nothing to argue about.

Navy for me--- IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF SLINGBOX, READ THIS POST

In Virginia I got NFL Sunday Ticket

Now I’m in Japan and I use a Slingbox! You have to find someone in the NW that has a broadband internet connection and cable TV. You buy the Slingbox and send it to their house. They hook up the Slingbox to their DVR. It takes their TV signal and puts it to streaming video online. You download the SlingPlayer program and you can watch the game. You can even change channels at their house.

For me, I bought the Slingbox and a TiVo and sent it to my brother’s house. It’s not hooked up to his TV there, so I can watch anything I want and not interfere with him. Pretty sweet. Even (gasp!) non-football TV.

I’ll check this thread if anyone has questions. You can get the HD version for about $220 on ebay, then it allows you to watch American TV forever going forward. Non-HD versions are much cheaper. I have the HD hooked up to my 54" plasma and it looks pretty good. Like a good YouTube stream, depending on your internet connection. The internet stream is the biggest factor in video quality.

South Carolina here

Steelers are on every weekend, although I did finally see my first 49’er bandwagon fan…but that was before the drubbing by Atlanta, so he probably put his Steeler license plate back on. Anyway…

After several years of trying in vain to find live streams, radio streams, or hoping for a live game, last year I mostly just followed on ESPN gamecast and Field Gulls and then downloaded the game later. This year I said “hell no” and the wife ok’d getting a subscription to a sports package. I instantly thought of Direct TV and Season Ticket, but I heard about ATT U-Verse, so I checked it out. “Sure,” the salesman says, “with the u-verse sports package, you’ll get almost all of the NFL games. Why buy Sunday Ticket when you can have the sports package for $10 a month?”

Well, I was sold, and duped like hell. Now the football season is in full swing, I am infuriated to find out that I don’t get any more football games than I did with REGULAR CABLE. There are no extra channels dedicated to carrying extra NFL games, only just regional channels that don’t carry the games. (FSNW)
I’ll definitely be getting Direct Tv and Sunday Ticket next year, but this year will be another disappointment of trying to find shitty streams online, because we all know Seattle gets no air time outside of the NW.

It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

Next year's notable Ex-Seahawks:
Walter Jones, Patrick Kerney, Seneca Wallace
