Ask Revenge of the Birds
Hey Seahawks fans, Andrew from Revenge Of The Birds here. Just stopping by to prepare for our match up this Sunday. Obviously it should be a good game, as we are division rivals. Seattle's a tough place to play and I'm hoping the Cardinals don't drop a goose egg like two teams have done there already. Anyway, if you have any questions or comments, drop them here and I'll get back to answer them as quick as I can.

What's the plan for after Kurt Warner?
Is Leinart going to get another shot, or will the Cardinals be looking elsewhere for their future QB?
I will smash your face into a jelly.

I'd say that they will give Leinart the spot once Warner is done
He looked good in the preseason and I haven’t heard anything as far as the Cardinals looking for somebody next year or the year after.

Does Kurt Warner carry Vaseline in his game bag?

How's Beanie looking, and their o-line in the rushing attack?
Is he clearly the #1 starter now over Hightower?
What happened to your pass defense? With Rolle, Wilson, and DRC, I thought you guys would be great.

I was wondering the same
regarding the pass defense situation

Beanie has looked great so far.
He had a case of fumblitis in Jacksonville but has held on ok since then. He’s not the starter yet and the Cardinals haven’t given him the rock much. Everytime he gets the ball he’s a threat. Hopefully you see a lot of him on Sunday. The run blocking has been just as bad as last year and we need help

The pass defense
Hasn’t been great mainly due to certain players getting caught out of position, mainly Rolle. DRC has been picked on but we’re confident he’ll be ok(see last week). B Mac has been solid and Wilson doesn’t play enough coverage to say it’s all his fault. I blame our linebackers. Teams have been beating us with the short pass and I’d expect Carlson to have a big day when we play.

Dockett has a reputation
But how do you see the rest of the front seven doing in rushing Matt?

The front seven looked good through the first two games(8 sacks)
But since have fallen off. It could be the quick releases of Matt Schaub and Peyton Manning also. I think they should get at least two on Sunday. Bill Davis(def coor) will try some different looks because what we’ve been doing isnt working. Watch out for Calais Campbell. He’s been an impact player so far this year.

Why isn't Larry Fitzgerald producing like Larry Fitzgerald?
Child please...
by Airborne Hawk Guy on Oct 14, 2009 2:48 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't put the blame entirely on Larry
When you have two other receivers wanting the ball(Breaston, Boldin), that’s going to happen. Not to mention our offense started the year out of synce, and defenses have been putting more coverage on Larry as well. The season’s still young so we may see his numbers increase by the end of the year. He’s on pace for over 1,000 yards and 16 TDs though.

does the medai still go on about the "loser's curse"?
because god knows by this point in the 06 season I was already sick of hearing it.

Ah yes
It was big over the off season and now they’re just blaming the 2-2 start on it. I think teams just have trouble repeating success period. See the Titans, Dolphins, Steelers, and Chargers. All were playoff teams last year and all have started slow.

I see the biggest key in the game is Seattle's pass rush vs. the Cardinals.
Do you agree?
Granted it’s oversimplified, because there are many facets of the game that affects the entire outcome of the game, but I think if the Seahawks successfully pressure Warner, the Cardinals could have a long day.
Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

Maybe not the biggest key
so much as the most variable factor. We have a totally beat up line that somehow held the Jags to one sack and Arizona’s pass rush hasn’t been impressive either. So how will that play out? Seattle D has been mediocre to bad at rushing the passer until last Sunday – against a respectable O-line. How will THAT play out? I don’t think anyone has a sure answer for either question.
We know that both QBs can pass well given time in the pocket, that neither Arizona nor Seattle are likely to run very well, and that both teams have dangerous receivers.
However, if somehow Seattle’s receivers don’t get open enough or Matt or Kurt get hit good or one team starts running respectably and eats up the clock, then those could be more key.

I think the biggest key is the Cards' pass rush against us.
We won’t run the ball well. Our pass rush may be the story of the game, if it’s a success. Hopefully it shows up, hopefully it’s not showing up consistently but consistently too late. But not the biggest key. It could show up and we could still lose. Unfortunately, I think it’s slightly more likely that we’ll lose than that we’ll win.

I'm actually going to be posting some keys to the game later
But the biggest key for me would be out secondary against your passing offense. It killed us last week and let the Texans back into the game. It was also an issue against the 49ers, Colts and Jaguars. Whether we get out to a big lead or not, we’ll need to contain your receivers.

Any thoughts as to the reason the Cardinals' pass defense has been so mediocre?
Also as to why they let Houston back into the game last week after basically dominating the first half?
Finally, I read your matchup post back on Revenge of the Birds. I might quibble with a couple of items, but overall I think it’s a fairly evenhanded look at the game. Nice work.

My quibble would be
that he gives a split for edge in offensive line, and I would give the edge to the Cards. Their tackles are poor pass blockers, but it’s not totally restricting. They’re better run blockers. The interior is better at pass blocking, which helps alleviate the tackles, there’s often room to step up and Warner has good pocket presence. The interior is worse at run blocking, which quashes their run game pretty good.
Ours? We’ve got some hurt guys. Ray Willis is doing allright. Spencer’s become good. Unger’s been promising. I didn’t have time to evaluate Wrotto — hopefully John will — but from the preseason I was left wanting. They’ve held up better than might be expecting considering all things, but I’d give the edge to the Cards there.
Other quibble would be the methodology. The matchup ought to be compared in field matchup components.

and so I might as well just do that
Cards’ ball
- Pass rush vs. pass protection: our house, and we have the capability. Edge Hawks
- Pass offense vs. pass defense: even including pass rush considerations, edge Cards
- Running vs. Run defense: Edge Hawks
- coaching/strategy: I dunno. Who replaced Haley? How different are they? I don’t know. I like what Bradely and Mora have done. I dunno that they do a good job each week. I dunno how they’ll follow a 41-0 game. I don’t know.
Hawks’ ball:
Pass rush vs. pass protection: Edge Cards. They’ll use Wilson. Don’t think they won’t go after Hasselbeck hard. We’re hurt, and Hasselbeck isn’t best in getting the ball away or himself away.
Pass offense vs. pass defense: Edge hawks.
Running vs. run defense: Edge Cards.
- coaching/strategy: Edge hawks, I think. Big improvement by not going crazy with Pendergast. Maybe too simple, though. It helps execution, sure. But I am pretty pleased with Knapp. I feel he’ll attack their use of Wilson on the line/in the box.
Special teams: I dunno. Cards? Our return game in both facets is still sub-par. Still love Mare and his kickoffs, though. Punting’s been OK. Haven’t looked up their stuff, and FO seems to be down at the moment.
Looks like a wash! Will be a tough game.

Indeed it could very well be a wash
It should be close on Sunday. Key words – should be.

The Cardinals pass defense can be blamed on the poor coverage from out linebackers
The Texans owned us with short passes all day because everybody was caught out of coverage. We need more youth at linebacker.
