2010 Free Agents and the Seahawks O-line
Not sure if this has been posted but I figured it's never too early to look ahead. With all the talk about the offensive line, do you think we go to free agency and try to patch it up? Or do you think we go into the draft with O-line in mind?
Here are the 2010 free agents, courtesy of http://www.footballsfuture.com (Ages are in parenthesis)
Jahri Evans, New Orleans Saints (26)
Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (25)
Daryn Colledge, Green Bay Packers (27)

Mike Gandy, Arizona Cardinals (30)
Jared Gaither, Baltimore Ravens (23, RFA)
David Baas, San Francisco 49ers (27)
Khalif Barnes, Oakland Raiders (27)

Ryan Cook, Minnesota Vikings (26)
Rex Hadnot, Cleveland Browns (27)
Ben Hamilton, Denver Broncos (32)
Justin Hartwig, Pittsburgh Steelers (30)
Richie Incognito, St. Louis Rams (26)

Rudy Niswanger, Kansas City Chiefs (26)
Donald Penn, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (26)
Chester Pitts, Houston Texans (30)

Jason Spitz, Green Bay Packers (26)
Adam Terry, Baltimore Ravens (27)
Jeremy Trueblood, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (26)
Bobbie Williams, Cincinnati Bengals (32)

Kevin Mawae from the Tennessee Titans was not included because he is 38 years old and is probably retiring.
Granted a lot of these guys will probably sign extensions, but this is mainly to give you an idea of the upcoming free agency class and the possible free agents. This is just the offensive linemen, if you want to check out all the other positions here is the link.
A place to bury strangers.

I'm a firm believer that issue is not talent
but health. Let the rest of the year be the indicator. After the bye week our starters should be back and at full strength (I think).
I think we have the talent; they simply all haven’t been on the field at the same time.
The demise of the Broncos in '09 is our future. Pray hard.

That's a re-occuring problem though
We can’t afford to presume that the likes of Sims, Lock and Spencer will stay fit through 16 games next year. I think it needs to be done through free-agency, and because I agree that our primary talent is decent I don’t think we need to splash out on the likes of McNeill. A Colledge or Lutui will suit me fine

I’m a firm believer that Nick kissed a boy and he liked it…
Hey bud…listen..We need to place blame on somebody at this point IMO. Strenght and conditioning coach? Athletes not being in shape on their own time…etc..Pulled groins and hammy’s is a strenght and conditioning issue…With that said…everybody on the field and the Hawks are a top 5 team. I think that’s a common consensus among many, not just the faithful.

Jeremy Trueblood, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (26), RT, 0 PB, 2nd round, 475k
In other words…
Unsurprisingly the list is mostly rookies rounding up their contract. The only marquee name on there is Chad Clifton and with his history of injuries, I don’t think any Seahawks fan is waiting for him to rise.
Most of these guys aren’t starters. If they have potential, they will probably be resigned.
Which leads to the final conclusion: even if we want to address the issue through free agency, it doesn’t look like the FA class of 2010 will offer us the chance. And that’s even barring issues caused by the lack of a CBA forcing many of these rookie-contractors out of free agency.
Bobbie Williams, Cincinnati Bengals (32)
Marshal Yanda, Baltimore Ravens (24)

Jahri Evans is a monster.
No way the Saints let someone like him go.

Obviously we aren't finding the offensive linemen of the future
through free agency. It could provide us with decent depth. I’d rather not keep players like Vallos.

So is Pierre Thomas.

Funny story..
I drafted him in my friends fantasy league as a joke and I traded him to some guy who thought it was the good one. I got Brandon Jacobs for him lol. I don’t follow that league, but it was pretty hilarious.

Similar thing happened in the Field Gulls draft, actually.
Someone presumably thought he had drafted Carolina’s Steve Smith early in the second round. He had actually drafted the NY Giant. We chuckled at his expense and now it turns out that the joke is on the rest of us….especially me, because I drafted the Panther and he’s currently sucking like a Hoover.

A Brad Hoover, even.

Why don't we just go and sign Joey Harrington

I like Dennis Dixon :(
Wanted to draft him but Schmitt looks like a better pick.

I think OT and QB are priorities #1, 2 this off season
JM’s OL posts really show that the offense have been somewhat ignored in recent drafts. I gotta spend our 2 first round picks on OT and QB in 2010. Also, i seem to remember that we traded away a 2010 pick – is that right? what round pick is that?

Ah yes, here it is - our 2010 3rd round pick to Philly
along with our 2009 5th and 7th round picks for Deon Butler. Sounds much more expensive today than it did back in April. Especially now that it’s apparent we would be picking in the top 15 of that round. I guess when Branch is cut and Burleson’s contract gets too spendy, Butler will be nice to have around.

Hartwig was extended.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer, Sam Bradford*.

Gaither. Offer-sheet. Yes.
Evans would make a swell guard. We need an O-Line rebuild. Gaither at LT, Evans at LG + CJ Spiller/other early-round back = rushing dominance. YES!

I can't imagine any scenario where the Ravens voluntarily let Gaither go.

How about some DB help?
I’d love some Dunta Robinson or Carlos Rogers to have opposite Tru. Not sure what to do with Lucas in that scenario, though.

This:
Saints LT Jermon Bushrod didn’t allow one pressure to Giants RE Osi Umenyiora in Week 6.
Football Outsiders also believes that Bushrod, hailed by Mel Kiper two years ago as the steal of the ‘07 draft, is already better than usual Saints left tackle Jammal Brown. Bushrod’s swift development has been one of the unsung stories for the 5-0 Saints. He is slated for restricted free agency in 2010 -Rotoworld

Is Marcus McNeil going to be resigned?
I wouldn’t mind ‘tampering’ and telling him we’ll over him 50/6 or whatever is fair.
by LantermanC on Oct 20, 2009 6:46 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't see why not.
Especially since it seems unlikely they are going to shell out for Merriman. Plus, LT might be off the books soon too.

goddamnit.

Just the good ones
If Zona can do it with their tackles, we can do it with the tackles we have. We’re sinking or swimming with what we have right now. Offseason we’ll get a B-level FA tackle and draft one.

if we are lucky.
We will get another practice squad scrub. That’s the way Ruskell likes to acquire Tackles it seems.

It does seem.
First, WR scrubfest. Now, OL scrubfest. I hope that when JM say’s Ruskell will fix our offensive line like he ‘fixed’ our WRs and ‘fixed’ our RBs in past off-seasons that it doesn’t mean bring in some fringe-roster castoffs, but some quality pieces. I think we need two OL signings. 1 tackle and 1 guard or resign Spencer and 1 tackle and 1 guard. Heck, the salary cap values of Big Walt and Kerney alone should buy us a player or two…and Tapp needs a contract, as well.
