Matt, Meet DeMarcus. DeMarcus, Matt

Per the intrepid O'Neill, Walter Jones has finally been placed on injured reserve, where he probably should have been since training camp. Locklear, on the other hand, might start practicing this week, but he won't be ready to play this week. That means the Seattle Seahawks go to Dallas with a starting LT named Damien McIntosh. Joy.

Well, I for one am just pumped for this Sunday. I'm sure that our running attack will be amazing, and Hasselbeck will enjoy a tremendous amount of protection against a sometimes fearsome Dallas pass rush.

I'd also like a pony.

Odds were against Walt coming back in the first place,

and we had (and still have) no idea what Locklear would be like as a full-time starter. The depth behind them was non-existent. We’ve reaped what we’ve sowed, y helo thar Brandon Frye, Kyle Williams, and now Damion McIntosh.

Mora said he was was progressing as expected until midway through training camp

I didn’t expect him back either but injuries are definitely a case where the team has way more information to make a decision with. And again, it’s not like they didn’t have backup plans.

A young 20-something Amare Stoudemire

was being doubted as able to come back from microfracture surgery. I never had much hope for Walter. I know it’s a different type of microfracture, but still, 35 years old is old for an athlete.

You don't get credit for a correct prediction of failure when you predict that everyone will fail.

If you wake up every day predicting an earthquake, the world won’t be beating down your door for an autograph when there finally is one.

Not true.

There will inevitably be a few people who will do that. Then they will leave you alone when your next prediction fails.

I don't predict everyone will fail.

I’m not an insufferable optimist but I don’t see how you’d get that impression simply because I scrutinize things.

And that wasn’t a correct prediction, it was common sense. Walt was almost certainly done when it was revealed his fractured knee would require surgery.

We don't know what the Seahawks knew about Walters status

they obviously expected something different. Locklear was always supposed to replace Walt. They brought in Frye who played well for a back up when Walt couldn’t go at the beginning of the season. They had Kyle Williams who was ok depth last season and was fourth on the depth chart this season. It’s just dumb to say that the front office ignored the position.

Horse apples!

Don’t you know that every team in the NFL has at least 6 LTs on the roster for any given game? Its just common sense!

Everyone on here was saying LT was going to be a problem for us...

But do the Hawks’ coaches listen? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I don't think the coaches or front office expected anything from Walt this season.

I think they were hoping that he might come back at some point and give them a boost, but I think they’re were expecting Locklear to be the left tackle for most of the season.

by MFAN on Oct 28, 2009 12:17 PM PDT reply actions

I worded that kind of weird.

Basically anything they could get from Walt was gravy and in the back of their minds(coaches and front office) they were hoping(praying?) Walt could come back and provide a boost.

by MFAN on Oct 28, 2009 12:18 PM PDT up reply actions

That would mean they intentionally went into the season without any depth.

Oh, Kyle Williams.

I also recognize the ability to get not only a guy who could perform at that level, should the need arise, in mid-season, which they did do, but also a guy with some decent upside even having been cut, which they also did, but ultimately if this was truly how they went about it, it was a bad decision.

It wasn’t easy having Michael Bennett grow on us and then see him go to Tampa, but we had such a glut of defensive linemen. Just one more guy, that could provide more protection than Kyle Williams or “replacement level” street free agents like Brandon Frye (a relatively good pickup to be sure) should the need arise before Walter Jones returns, there was room and we could have pursued it during free agency.

Mora said, they got Unger to mitigate Wahle, and so on, but they didn’t anticipate all these injuries. Last year’s WR situation, you don’t mitigate the scant possibility of that many injuries hitting one squad. There’s no room on the roster. One more guy, one backup tackle behind the two you’re counting on, next to the one you hope comes back, would have been expected.

I'm not so sure

They went into the season a little light on OT depth. That suggests to me that they thought he might come back.

I think they expected Lock to start, but I don’t think they planned be 8 weeks in with only Lock, Willis and a handful of PS guys.

Listening to Mora's press conference today it sounded like they expected to have Walt this year

Everything was good until he went down in training camp with “back spasms” which was actually his knee flaring up. Walt hasn’t been able to progress past that point 3 months or so ago so they IR’ed him.

Remember when Mora said Walt would play against the Bears?

Yeahhh….

I knew this would happen. As much as I didn’t want to believe it I know Walt’s fate now.

yeah I remember that

and Mora had to have an inclination that Walt would not return. I heard Danny O’Neill on ESPN Radio yesterday say “coach Mora has been very upfront with us on the injury reports”. BS, I don’t buy that crap for a minute.

Coach Mora has said nothing but we will see. How the fuck is that being upfront with the injury report.

What I don’t understand, is why the Hawks have so many injuries that are nagging. I don’t see any other teams out there saying, “we just don’t know, we are taking a wait and see approach” with their injury reports. Why does there have to be so much ambiguity over these injuries? Now Tatupu is getting looked at in Florida to “SEE” if he actually needs surgery. Can’t your medical staff tell him that? We don’t have good enough doctors in Seattle to take care of this? Seems like they are holding on to hope that this season will still be a success if he hope the injured guys recover.

Sounds like the coaching staff is putting all their eggs into one basket by banking on “MAYBE” with the injured players’ status.

Just bring on next year already. This is just making me more and more pissed off.
