Walter Jones to be Placed on Injured Reserve
Jim Mora via the Seattle Times.
"After much deliberation and evaluation and soul searching between the team, the medical staff and Walter Jones," coach Jim Mora said. "It has been determined that the best thing to do for Walter, for this football team and for his future is to put him on injured reserve. So we're going to do that today. We're going to shut him down. We're going to let him heal up, have whatever procedures our medical staff feels is necessary and then re-evaluate early next year.
"I will say this, Walter has done everything that is humanly possible to try and get back and help this football team. He has been amazing in his attitude and his approach to this. His determination to get back on the football field has never been in question, but it's just not happening. It's just not happening.

you know it's sad but true.....
I still tend to think they knew this was going to happen. They just had to.
Why didn’t they do this sooner. Seems as though the Hawks coaching staff is holding on to hope way too long.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....
Not sure
But it was probably some combination of wanting to leave open the possibility of having him contribute at a position of need late in the season and a gentlemanly effort to give him every chance to come back in light of his status as the greatest player in franchise history.
For me, this is somewhat cathartic. Walt is football-old coming off of a bad injury.
I’m glad that he gave his best effort to get back on the field, but I’d have hated to see him struggle and threaten further damage by playing.
Walter, thank you for the best LT career we’ll likely see, and thank you for sparing us the indignity of dragging out the end.
Sad
At least to me it was expected. Just sucks though.
Likely retirement then?
What is he, 35? How old are Ogden and Pace?
Also, how much cooler would Orlando Pace be if his name were Orlandu Pace?
Mora also said
That they’re not ready to write eulogy for Walt’s career. They’ll evaluate him early next year (I imagine before the draft) and decide then.

Orlando sounds pretty bad ass too.
Orlando reminds me more of Orlando the Axe than Orlando, Florida.

Mora mentioned earlier that there was a "drop dead" date
for Jones’ recovery. It would make sense if this week was it.

Walter Jones to be Placed on Injured Reserve
Pack it in, 4 and 12 this year folks. At best. Let us hope that the Hawks draft an entire offensive line next year.
This is the same team today it was yesterday
And I still think that team can fight for a playoff spot. 4-12 is a worst case, Doomsday scenario.
Oh, sorry
And thanks for bring the best player in team history Walt. I hope you can make it back to competitive form at least, but if not, enjoy the rest of your life. Thank you for being a Seahawk.
Dude. Seriously.
We still have Detroit, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Tennessee (one win between the four). We’re getting Tru and Hill back, with Locklear hopefully following shortly. If you’re that desperate to be hopeless go join the Raiders site. This team isn’t done yet.
I'm thinking 8-8 now
I saw we beat Rams, Bucks, Titans, 49ers, Lions and one of Cowboys / Zona / Texans
Also, Louis Rankin added to 53 man roster
Edge looks over his shoulder.
In roster news: Seattle moved Louis Rankin from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster and added a linebacker, Anthony Heygood, to the practice squad.
YES!!
It's Great to be a Florida Gator!
Next year's notable Ex-Seahawks:
Walter Jones, Patrick Kerney, Seneca Wallace, Jordan Babineaux, Kelly Jennings

I don’t get the corresponding roster move. How does adding Louis Rankin help replace Walt given the make up of this roster? We have an obvious need for a roster spot come Saturday with Tru being activated, why not just give Walt’s spot to him? I figure Rankin is immediately the most likely candidate to the be cut again come Saturday but what to do I know. Nothing, that’s what. And we added a linebacker to the PS to replace Rankin…I’m going to go out on a limb and make an unqualified statement: LB is the most abundantly stocked unemployed bin in the NFL.
Granted, the dealings of roster spots 45-53 + PS fascinate me to no end if for no other reason that I see no reason behind the moves made. What’s the point to signing Mark Lewis to the PS for 3 days when Mike Gibson was there for the taking the whole time? This does not apply to players who could actually be useful (see: Michael Bennett)
I’m not making an indictment or complaining. I’d just like insight. Even insight as simple, “It doesn’t matter,” will sate me.
When Tru comes back, Fischer most likely gets cut.
Very few teams keep five cornerbacks.
Practice squad people are to help with practice, playing the scout team or subbing in for an injured group, very unlikely that they help the team out in any other way. Most of them won’t play a snap in the NFL, or shouldn’t (Kyle Williams). Rankin may help in the kick return game or maybe they think someone else has their eye on him and they like him enough to keep him safe. Who knows.

That's my thought, Rankin or Fisher get cut
But Mora specifically said Tru will only play on third downs. Plus coming off a back injury with Wilson recently off a high ankle sprain and Jennings coming off of <something, forget what>, seems like we’d want that 5th corner for at least one week. Normally I’d just say slide Babs over but even our safety depth is hurting after CJ Wallace just missed two games. I’m not even sure how open the coaching staff is to the whole “Babs is corner depth” idea anymore now that he’s a nominal starting safety. Point is, the secondary is hurting so cutting depth their might not be in our best interest for a couple weeks.
I didn’t watch Rankin much in college so don’t know much about him. I guess for UW fans, they’re probably clamoring for him like I clamored for MoMo for years. You may have made a good suggestion above, that Edge may be on his way out. An injection of speed wouldn’t hurt this team and, if my memory serves me, Rankin has that. I guess the “Younger and cheaper yet equally talented” mantra is a good one to keep in the back of the mind as well
Didn't they already release Kyle Williams for Trufants spot?
And they already have their back up LTs in order so it’s not really a Walt for Rankin move.
Our LT depth chart is still ugly this week
Assuming Lock is out and Willis is starting at RT
McIntosh
Gibson
…Unger? or John Owens?
We’re still a minor nick away from another ugly morning/afternoon.
Mora mentioned in the postgame after Frye was injured that if Williams had been too injured to go back in then John Owens was considered an option to go in at tackle. Getting away from the point though, which is that there’s lots of speculation about who could go in and play tackle but we have two healthy tackles listed on our roster and another guy who we just picked up off a PS who last played tackle in a game in college.
Again though, this just may exemplify the fact that I am, in fact, a fan and am not a Seahawks employee. Friday afternoon Fisher could be released, Tru could play an entire game and we could sign some stud LT. I’d say this is what makes being a fan so much fun but this doesn’t feel like very much fun at the moment
I didn't say it was good, I said it was set
Losing Walt doesn’t change that they’re unlikely to make any LT additions this week.
Barely set, at that
I have to assume Gibson’s been practicing at tackle this week because, well, the Seahawks are a professional football team and to not have him practicing there would be pretty irresponsible.
I guess I don’t have a point about our depth you and I (and anyone with a brain) haven’t already made. You’re right, it’s shallow and it sucks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see LT as the weak link on our line again this week and given that wouldn’t be surprised to see Gibson get a series or two. Just got to hope against any more mysterious shoulder stingers.
Did anything more come out about Frye’s injury or did they leave it at, “It ended up being a little more serious?”
Williams was waived, added to PS
Rankin did take Walt’s roster spot because they already signed Macintosh and remember Frye went to IR as well.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....
Thank you, Walt.
It may yet be too soon for this, and I’d be happy to see you return if you can, but if you don’t you’ve still given us a hell of a lot of fond memories. I look forward to your eventual Ring of Honor induction.
Props to Walt
I feel like lost in all this I haven’t shown the proper respect. Props to Walt for a great career to date, and a great career in sum if it comes to that. One of the best I ever watched and I’ll let others discuss his place amongst the best ever. I hope he can come back next year as a healthy and standout offensive tackle but in the event that his knee just won’t cooperate I also wish him a long, healthy and happy life off the field.
Bye, Walt.
It’s a shame we’re playing these jokes in your stead.
"Mayhap a hidden door lurks nigh. Let us search the environs."
I don't mind that they gave Walt a chance to come back
Ruskell has shown respect for our great Seahawk players. He did it for Shaun Alexander. He is doing it for Walt. I’m fine having a losing season to show Walt the respect he deserves. I’m not going to fault Ruskell because Locklear lacks the durability to be a LT when he knew he needed to step up in Walt’s absence.
Other guys didn’t step up when Walt went down. It’s a testament to the player that he is that he manned the LT position so long without missing a game. He’s going to be hard to replace. I hope he can come back for a year or two more.
