Griffith released, Kyle Williams signed.
Per Danny O'Neil: Here
Seahawks release FB Justin Griffith, sign Kyle Williams to the active roster.
Weird, since just yesterday came this blurb about practice:
"FB Justin Griffith (knee) did a little in individual drills, but nothing in team drills. "He's made some strides," coach Jim Mora said"
and I thought Griffith was a big part of Knapp's running game plan since he knew Knapp's system so well. That says to me either they really like Schmitt stepping in, that Griffith's knee was more injured than they were letting on or that the team really needed Kyle Williams.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is resigned next week.
With Locklear and Jones out and Faye hurting we needed some tackle depth.
NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!
We need Williams
Although was Griffith really the person we needed to cut?
No huge deal since we have Schmitt.
The QB class of 2010 looks deep next season.
He's hurt and not that "needed" by other teams

I understand
Is Kirtman on the PS?
Maybe he’s our backup in case Schmitt gets hurt.
The QB class of 2010 looks deep next season.
I guess they figure Griffith won't go anywhere else....like hand-shake agreement to stay.
Knowing we’ll re-sign him soon.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevan Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer
How so?
We have 1 and a half offensive tackles right now on the active roster.
Full back is a position we can play without and we have 2 of them.
NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

Griffith is our best FB (when healthy)
The FB position seems to be pretty important for Knapp’s run game.
I was worried that dropping Griffith meant (a) he was hurt badly or that (b) Frye (and/or Sims) is really beat up. Last week we played with only two active tackles (with Sims and Unger as backups) and the only things that have changed since then are Frye’s and Sim’s injuries. It seems like the coaching staff thinks the injuries are something they have to worry about.
Reading Misfit74’s comment and Sando’s post, though, it makes sense that they’re just trying to add depth and that Griffith will probably be resigned. While I’m glad we’ve got more than 2 active tackles now, I’m a little concerned that Frye or Sims might not be as healthy as we’d hoped.

Pretty obvious move..
Griffith is unlikely to go anywhere knowing that as soon as he is healthy the Seahawks are happy to plug him back in as a starter. We desperately needed the tackle depth with Locklear and Jones out and Frye already banged up..
And Frye's immediate backup, Sims, is banged up

This is good news
To start Frye with an injured groin and effectively no real backup would be insane. Since Monday I think most of us knew a move would be coming, but the question was who would be sacrificed for Williams. Basically, the most likely guys to go would be on the fringe of the roster. Guys like Bennett, Reed, Terrill, maybe Branch (trade), and Griffith. IR was also a possibility (Walter Jones), but that would be a potentially big sacrifice for just a week of flexibility. Guys like Fisher or CJ Wallace might be considered except they play at positions that are also thin. So really, it boiled down to releasing a talent that wouldn’t last as a free agent, or trading/releasing a proven veteran who would be a loss to the team, or releasing a less desired veteran who’s in a situation that they probably wouldn’t get picked up in FA and could hang around for a week. Griffith makes perfect sense. Even if he doesn’t come back, its not a huge loss as long as Schmitt stays healthy.
I hate watching this team unravel, again
Especially after watching the Huskies choke it away to fucking Notre Dame. Of course.

Rumor circulating that Freeney might play as a 3rd down specialist
PFT says that Clayton said it.
The number of ways you can fool yourself is just amazing.
Are the Colts stupid or is Freeney's injury not as serious as they had thought?
It’s pretty hard to run, shed a block and tackle someone as agile as Wallace with a torn quad.
A Mariners fan in Seattle
word was 2-3 weeks
this week Freeney said he was a fast healer and refused to talk about a time schedule just saying that his attitude is that he’ll be ready tomorrow, if he wakes up tomorrow and isn’t feeling it, it’s the next day, repeat as necessary.
a muscle tear is the same as a muscle strain, for reference. It’s not like torn ligaments or tendons.

Yeah, but muscle tears are deceptive.
They can feel good once in a while, or after some exercise, but feel like absolute crap the next day. If I thought the Colts had a real chance of losing, I’d say sure, put him in for 10 or so snaps if he feels up to it, but I think this one is almost in the bag for you guys (not to be too negative). I mean c’mon, Seneca Wallace, and 65% of our starters vs. Peyton Manning at home?
Freeney is active for the game
apparently he worked out yesterday and did well enough to finally sell the coaches on letting him play.
The number of ways you can fool yourself is just amazing.
the Colts are usually pretty conservative about shutting guys down if they aren't in shape to be playing
they sat Jerruad Powers week 2 even though he only missed a day of practice and wanted to play. If Freeney goes it’s because they don’t think him playing limited snaps is a risk
The number of ways you can fool yourself is just amazing.
