Indianapolis Colts Rip Heart from Seahawks Chest, 34 - 17
A team without a quarterback blames everyone but. Some fans follow the lead. Other fans just get sick of complaining about one position. Seattle has no quarterback. The position is three years overdue for new blood.
Go Cowboys.

Broncos thread please
It wasn’t as embarrassing as I thought it would be but Seneca is just pitiful. No will to be aggressive from him. Terrible decision making, short throws galore, overthrowing a lot, etc.
I am sick of him. Unless we train him as a receiver he should be released at the end of the season.
Seattle is cursed. For life.

Completely agree
and I would add that Teel and Hasslebroken should be each told at the beginning of next pre-season that the QB job is up for grabs. If Teel wins the job, I would be willing to suffer through his growing pains for a season while he gets more dry behind the ears. If Matt hangs on to his job, Teel would very likely still be starting before the season was half over, given what we’ve seen from Hasslebroken the last two seasons.

Teel should get action *this* season.

Seneca is not the answer and anyone that watched the last few games should know that. The guy is an athlete.
We don’t run the wildcat. We need a pocket passer and Senca is not that by a long shot. It makes me ill when people defend him being a long-term solution to back-up Matt. So misguided. If the Seahawks don’t draft a QB in the 1st round next year, I fear that we will continue in this funk for a long period of time (i.e. 90’s).
Again, I don’t hate Seneca but he is not the future of this team and by the way he is playing and leading the team, not do a good job currently.

agreed
no ill will to Seneca – he is what he is – but I’m just tired of the way he holds the roster/gameplan hostage. Won’t risk him as a “slash” player, can’t execute the full gameplan when he’s in. I feel sorry for him, because the decision to attempt developing him into a QB has just completely backfired. One of the biggest wasted opportunities in the franchise’s history, IMO.

Have to admit that John may have been right to covet Sanchez
If Matt hadn’t gotten hurt (a huge if, clearly) I wouldn’t necessarily feel that way. But his decision to take on Patrick Willis with his back turned was retarded and has crippled our season. Bad decision by a brittle starting QB.
With all that said, minus the avalanche of injuries to the rest of the team, they could have been at least 2-2 and still in the hunt. The front office needs to take a hard look at what they can do differently to keep the personnel on the field. “It’s a violent sport” is no longer an acceptable answer.

I wanted Stafford
but if the front office was ok with Sanchez, I don’t think I would have cried. He certainly looked good at USC.

I remember your Stafford fetish but thought you jumped on Sanchez when Staf was clearly unattainable

I was mixed on Sanchez.
I think the drum I’ve been beating for a few years now is: draft a quarterback.

His body language was terrible, but
It looked to me like (1) a lot of those ineffectual swing passes were by design and thus hard to pin on Seneca, and (2) they could have signed Coutu to play LT for equally effective pass-pro. Frye was trying, but it was pathetic. Hasselbeck would likely have been dead by the half. Unless Seattle has a good shot at a top QB with the better of its 2 #1s next year, I’d prefer they go for LT and S ahead of QB.
by dagraham on Oct 4, 2009 2:12 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Wallace can only throw swing passes and he makes every offensive lineman look bad.
Not to say Frye wasn’t getting beat, but he is a third string OT competing against Dwight Freeney. I think he did ok. Certainly good enough for Seattle to win.

Correction.
Peyton-Fucking-Manning.
Is there a throw that guy cannot make? If Johnny Quarterback get’s hit, or even pushed, his throw careens away from him. Peyton made those throws look easy while at a 45 degree angle. Very acute of him. (Hey oh!)

When Seneca missed Deon Butler on that deep ball early on...
we missed an opportunity to strike quickly. If one of the only positives people usually say about Seneca is his ability to throw the deep ball, he’s missed that pass multiple times in the last two weeks.
He also needs to learn not to hold onto the ball for so freaking long.

As tough as it is watching Manning kill you on the TV...
…it’s much worse in person. Nearly every play from way up where my seat was, you could see a potential weak spot in the Seattle D – Fisher lined up on Wayne, for example – and be damn sure Manning would see it clearly from where he was. And then exploit it every damn time. I wanted to see him play in person and am glad I did, but boy does he tear your heart out when playing your team.
On the bright side, I made the lady next to me spit up her coke when I yelled “we’re right back in it” when Wallace scored his TD!

Was there too...
Section 612….And GAWD there were chances galore for both sides.
Difference was one team has the best QB if the decade and perhaps all time playing.
They were the guys wearing Blue tops BTW in case you mised it.
Senaca is what he is. A deep reserve QB with athletic skill to surprise in other positions at times.
No more no less.
Sad.

First off...
We need to cut Travis Fisher and trade/release Kelly Jennings. Second Seattle should either cut Seneca at the end of the season or make him a full time receiver cuz enough is enough. I can’t wait till Seattle drafts McCoy and Berry next year.
by Seahawksfan23 on Oct 4, 2009 5:19 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
We don't have enough secondary depth to cut Fisher and Jennings.
by BrianL on Oct 4, 2009 5:45 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah i know.
I should have added saying we need to activate Jamar Adams or Roy Lewis from the practice squad and sign some other free agent DB who at least could do better then Fisher or Jennings.

3-3 or 4-2
After looking at the schedule, I thought the Hawks would be 3-3 or 4-2, and I still think that, with two very winnable games at home (Jags, Cards). My one big issue is the fact the Hawks look out of synce. Granted all the injuries are an issue, but the fact is all these guys are “pros” and if they are they need to be competitive. Watching Wallace QB is a sad, the guy is very athletic, but he is NOT A TRUE NFL QB (I have stated why before). The play calling is bad on defense (a little less on offense), and some of the backups are not a step away from being starters it seems like most are a step away from being out of the league (that falls on the GM).
So with all that said, I still think the Hawks will be in the mix for the NFCW division after six games, but they need to get healthy (Hass, Hill, Tru, Sims, Jones (maybe), Wilson, Lock, bring Griffith back), get better play calling, and not pack it in because they have had a slow start to this year.
I’ll never jump off the boat, but this team needs to show some fire at home and ON THE ROAD. The next two weeks will be the crossroads to this year, win and they are in the mix, lose and they are looking at a nosedive they might not pull out of until next year.

I agree with the need to get to 3-3 before the bye.
These next two games are — and I hate to say call it thus — MUST WIN games.

Seneca is not that bad. Stop the bashing..Bash the rest of the team!
He had a rough one today…but let’s be fair. The Colts Defense is much more aggressive and better then it was in years past. They killed a very good QB last week in Kurt Warner in Arizona and he’s an All-Pro QB. So let’s chill out on the Seneca bashing.
He didn’t have a good game but so didn’t Ray Willis or Frye or the rest of the offensive line for that matter(minus Chris Spencer). Holding penalties cost us a lot of postive plays today and Seneca isn’t all to blame. There’s Plenty of blame to be spread around.
I thought Seattle moved the ball well in the first half and kept the Colts offense off the field with pretty good drives, only to be snake bitten by the yellow flag. It was 7-0 at the end of the 1st Qt and could’ve been 14-3 at the end of the half if Knapp wouldn’t have mis-managed the time to leave the Manning 1:40 in the 2nd Qt. And on top of that Gus Bradley called the dumbest blitz I’ve ever seen to give the Cotls 7 more pts when at worst it should’ve been 3.
7 pts per Qt against a team this good would’ve been A-Okay for me.
Seneca is the back up and as a back up he’s adequate. We are missing so many pieces up front that it’s hard to lay all the blame at his feet. Most teams that lose there QB’s step up in other areas. We haven’t done that. Usually the running game or the Defense step up and those things have not happened for Seneca. He’s not a QB that can win it all by himself. That guy was on the other side of the ball today.
Last week it was the FG kicker that hurt us but Seneca still got us the lead at the end of the game and the Defense didn’t step up. IF they did and we won against the Bears the tune would be much different about Seneca. We’d be 2-2 and happy with that.
The one problem I do have with Seneca is that he doesn’t run as much as he use to. He’s great at scrambling out of the pocket but he either runs out of bounds and loses yards (when he could throw it away) or makes some questionable throws downfield. He should tuck it and use those fast legs he was blessed with. That would keep the defense off balance and it was something he use to do more of. There two plays where he had angles on linebackers to make positive yards and he opted not to run. The TD run was more indicative of what he should be doing more of. It puts so much pressure on defenses and he’s not using that advantage he has. Wildcat would be nice. Wouldn’t mind seeing Teel and Seneca on the field at the same time.
I also thought Curry had a good game and made some nice open field tackles today. For the record.

Agree...
What I dont understand is why Seneca wasnt slinging. The only chance to win that game was to come out gunning and make some long gains. He looks like a guy that doesnt trust his teammates. And he needs to start throwing the ball away rather than run out of bounds with a 3 yard loss. Fuck that drives me crazy.
by Strictnine on Oct 5, 2009 9:02 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not so sure...
I think most people aren’t “bashing” Wallace as much as they are showing their displeasure with some of the things he does. As you and myself among others have said, he is an “adequate” BACKUP, not a true starter (my words). I like the guy as a change of pace in certain formations (Senacat), but he is not a QB that can win games for you if your starter is out.
Wallace has poor body language after bad plays (head down, almost pouting at times), the fact he can’t see over the middle like QB’s need to be able to do (he can’t help that, but you need to be able to do it), and on top of that he makes some poor decisions (throwing over the line of scrimmage, over throwing wide open WR’s, throwing into double and triple coverage, running out of bounds insted of throwing the ball away, etc). In the end the guy is a very good athlete, but he is an average to below average QB. He needs to be moved next year to WR or 3rd string QB so the team can use him on punt returns and in the Senacat formation, not as a 2nd string QB.
I sure don’t hate the guy, I like him on this team, he just needs to be used better. If he is your starter, he needs to role out more, and use his legs more to pick up yards. Take some shot down field with his “big” arm, and keep everything else under 15 yards and in. It just seems the team doesn’t want him to run and in turn that hurts what he does best.

Seneca 2008
The guy threw 11 TD with only 3 int’s last year while posting 87% QB rating. (would credit that to Holmgren to) What more would you like out of a “Back Up”. The guy is a prettty good back up. My point is that he’s good enough to win in the NFL. At least go .500. That’s all I would expect out of my Back up QB. He’s pretty much done that.
I contend that Hasselbeck wouldn’t have beaten the Colts yesterday either and he’s our starter. Seneca played well enough last week for our team to win against the Bears. Even though he’s 5’11 he still has put up decent numbers as starter. Even last year wtih our whole WR corps out and this year without an O-Line. I think we need to cut him some slack. That’s all.
We don’t bash Hawthorne or Herring when they made mistakes because we know there the back ups. If they were good enough to start they would be starting.
The guy went up against a undefeated Colts team and we probably wouldn’t have beat them if Joe Montana was the QB behind our O-Line yesterday. The guy is good enough to back up Hass. It’s really the parts around him that suck and again the questionable play calling by Knapp doesn’t utilize his talents that’s really hindering us. Knapp coached Mike Vick for goodness sakes. Use that playbook for Seneca and unleash this guy!

That interception rate was completely unsustainable.
I hate to use this phrase, but with Seneca Wallace regression to the mean was in order. He’s not the kind of quarterback that’s going to post historically good INT rates.

True...
but combine last years with this years. He’s 14-5 tds-int rate. Throw in the bad O-line we have. The guys is a pretty good back up.
