I meant it when I said earlier this week that I will not handle it if the Seahawks lose

and the Broncos win this weekend. 3 straight weekends of that is not acceptable.

I want to see Seattle grow as a team

I never staked my hope for this season on Seattle competing.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

This.

But… in a year like this when the division looks even weaker than usual, it’s painful to think about all these injuries and growing pains. If we pull together even a little, and Matt gets back in gear (sorry), I still believe we could win the division and get a playoff game.

by djafrot on Oct 4, 2009 2:42 PM PDT up reply actions

That would be fine

I don’t give up on the season ever, but after last season, I just don’t see the passing game to lead this team.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 2:44 PM PDT up reply actions

what do you mean exactly?

You mean that the passing game just isn’t going to be good enough and is a weakness, or that it’s not good enough to carry the team a la 2007?

I was pretty optimistic about Matt and co., especially when Knapp spread the field a little.

by djafrot on Oct 4, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Dinking and dunking

Towards a Ryan touchback does not equivocate to a good passing game.

Hasselbeck needs to be fully healthy.

by SSreporters on Oct 4, 2009 2:53 PM PDT up reply actions

A few exceptions aside

A contender has a good to great passing offense. Seattle’s only hope of that was something spectacular from Matt Hasselbeck and I about gave up on that last season.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Even when Matt was healthy

Which was all of 1.5 games so far his decision making as shown great deterioration.

by SSreporters on Oct 4, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm surprised this is controversial

He throws so many ducks. I can never know for sure, but I think I see him avoid making passes because he has DRC flashbacks.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

A lot of the contenders last year

Didn’t have good passing games. Titans, Ravens, Panthers, Steelers, and Vikings were not in the top 15 in passing DVOA. Teams like the the Dolphins, Falcons, and Giants were efficient but much of that was because they ran the ball so much.

So while having a good passing game is important, lots of contenders don’t have it.

by Brendan Scolari on Oct 4, 2009 10:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Seattle doesn't have the D or run game to carry them like those teams did.

It’s not that it’s the only way to be a contender, but it is this team’s only way.

by thebyron on Oct 5, 2009 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't deny that nor am I suggesting giving up on any level.

But for me, I can’t be too bothered about division rival wins or losses until the ’Hawks significantly tighten things up. After 4 games, they are combination of injured and fundamentally unsound. Both are things that can change, which is good.

I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.

by Dukeshire on Oct 4, 2009 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I want Seattle to win so bad, every game

Big picture, no, I never had serious hope Seattle would contend. I wanted to see significant growth from the defense.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe you're right

but I remember before the season that I just did not have that hope. That’s how I remember it. Likewise, I didn’t see any kind of season the frightened me. If Seattle collapsed, then it really needs the draft picks so I was kind of happy. But, in some way, I guess I always hope for the team to be great.

by John Morgan on Oct 4, 2009 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Upon Googling, I hereby retract my definition of "hope"

Which is closer to “faith” or “belief” than “desire”.

I had high hopes of competing in a weak division, and perhaps getting hot late a la Arizona last year. Injuries and inefficiency have destroyed that hope, and even my desire to watch this team. Today was my first Sunday of the season not spent at an NFL stadium, and these banged-up losers ruined it.

Hard to go by history of grooming a QB since it’s probably only come up with him at the helm of an organization once or twice.

Suh?

Mebane plus another nasty DT would be scary good. But I worry about DTs holding up and playing every down.

I honestly don't know too much about Suh.

I haven’t watched any Nebraska football this year or the last.

by Carl Shinyama on Oct 4, 2009 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Mebane is a good 3 tech

Don’t lose faith in the DTs after today. They are getting very little help from the edge rushers.

Cole is average.
Bryant could be great
Mebane is great.

But we need the edge rushers to finish the line. Right now we have no solid edge rushers tnat command double teams and break through them. Not even one.

Tapp is not Freeney or even Mathis

Without those edge rushers, a Tampa 2 won’t work very well. Tampa Bay had them during their top years and the Colts have them now. If we’re going to rely on our front four for pressure, they have to be a truly elite unit.

If we were running an Eagles type zone blitz system then we’d be ok with average to above average DEs. Tampa two really needs those edge rushers to be strong.

I’ve been saying this for awhile now: Romo is a most overrated QB.

I want a new O-line

I have no faith Walt is coming back. None that Locklear will ever be more than a below average left tackle when healthy, and zero that Frye, Willis or Wrotto can avoid costly penalties or protect whomever is sitting in the pocket. Trade Branch now for a 3rd round pick, trade down from our first 1st round pick next April getting another 2nd rounder, and use four of the first 5 picks on O-line. Start over except for Unger. Maybe re-sign Spencer. When we were dominating the division, we have very good to great O-line play. Today, it’s a shambles.

by diehard82 on Oct 4, 2009 4:35 PM PDT reply actions

Problem is, we still need a QB.

Unless we’re damn sure Teel is going to save us, or we’re willing to sit through a bunch of 2-14 and 3-13 years while the O-line gets experience, drafting a QB will be a quicker fix. And let’s not forget we have holes to fill in the secondary, too.

by Hmph on Oct 4, 2009 4:41 PM PDT up reply actions
