I meant it when I said earlier this week that I will not handle it if the Seahawks lose
and the Broncos win this weekend. 3 straight weekends of that is not acceptable.
Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.
I hate the Pats
Mark Clayton dropped the ball and the Pats are so lucky.
If Clayton catches that the Ravens have a 1st and goal.

Anyone else still getting Redzone on TV?
I thought that we were only getting the freeview for the morning.

Pick 6 thrown by Mark Sanchez
Darren Sharper goes to the house and Sanchez is penalized for a low block.
The referee is Bill Leavy. No kidding he is penalizing a QB for a low block.

Well that was actually a low block.

We don't give Curry a break
He is supposed to change everything for us and stuff like that.
The Saints finally look like the real deal now that they have a decent defense.
Seattle is cursed. For life.
Comment was made tongue in cheek.
Though there is a difference between QB who was said to not be ready to start for a few years, and LB who was said to be the most pro-ready prospect.
Sanchez fumbles in the end zone and the Saints recover
The New Orleans Saints have 2 defensive touchdowns in the 1st half.

Pretty crazy and nearly fatal accident.
It seems odd to me that after today,
we’re scoreboard watching. Always like to see division rivals lose, but I hope its not with the ’Hawks playoff future in mind. This team is in trouble.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
I'm still holding out hope.
The next two weeks are at home, if we lay eggs in those games then I’m done with 2009.
Yes. I have given up. Hope is for the weak and feeble.

This.
But… in a year like this when the division looks even weaker than usual, it’s painful to think about all these injuries and growing pains. If we pull together even a little, and Matt gets back in gear (sorry), I still believe we could win the division and get a playoff game.
That would be fine
I don’t give up on the season ever, but after last season, I just don’t see the passing game to lead this team.
what do you mean exactly?
You mean that the passing game just isn’t going to be good enough and is a weakness, or that it’s not good enough to carry the team a la 2007?
I was pretty optimistic about Matt and co., especially when Knapp spread the field a little.
Dinking and dunking
Towards a Ryan touchback does not equivocate to a good passing game.
Hasselbeck needs to be fully healthy.
Seattle is cursed. For life.
A few exceptions aside
A contender has a good to great passing offense. Seattle’s only hope of that was something spectacular from Matt Hasselbeck and I about gave up on that last season.
Even when Matt was healthy
Which was all of 1.5 games so far his decision making as shown great deterioration.
Seattle is cursed. For life.
I'm surprised this is controversial
He throws so many ducks. I can never know for sure, but I think I see him avoid making passes because he has DRC flashbacks.
A lot of the contenders last year
Didn’t have good passing games. Titans, Ravens, Panthers, Steelers, and Vikings were not in the top 15 in passing DVOA. Teams like the the Dolphins, Falcons, and Giants were efficient but much of that was because they ran the ball so much.
So while having a good passing game is important, lots of contenders don’t have it.
by Brendan Scolari on Oct 4, 2009 10:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Seattle doesn't have the D or run game to carry them like those teams did.
It’s not that it’s the only way to be a contender, but it is this team’s only way.
I don't deny that nor am I suggesting giving up on any level.
But for me, I can’t be too bothered about division rival wins or losses until the ’Hawks significantly tighten things up. After 4 games, they are combination of injured and fundamentally unsound. Both are things that can change, which is good.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
I call bullshit
Never staked your hope on competing? C’mon man… I hope for that every year regardless.
by lemonverbena on Oct 4, 2009 2:53 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
I picked 9-7, division title, and a home playoff loss
It’s all relative and some times you can’t just hope for a contending season.
Seattle is cursed. For life.
I want Seattle to win so bad, every game
Big picture, no, I never had serious hope Seattle would contend. I wanted to see significant growth from the defense.
I think you are confusing "hope" (desire) with "belief" (analysis/critical thinking)
by lemonverbena on Oct 4, 2009 3:02 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
Maybe you're right
but I remember before the season that I just did not have that hope. That’s how I remember it. Likewise, I didn’t see any kind of season the frightened me. If Seattle collapsed, then it really needs the draft picks so I was kind of happy. But, in some way, I guess I always hope for the team to be great.
Upon Googling, I hereby retract my definition of "hope"
Which is closer to “faith” or “belief” than “desire”.
I had high hopes of competing in a weak division, and perhaps getting hot late a la Arizona last year. Injuries and inefficiency have destroyed that hope, and even my desire to watch this team. Today was my first Sunday of the season not spent at an NFL stadium, and these banged-up losers ruined it.

Dumervil is a hell of a rush linebacker
Tapp-like. Also, I think McDaniels is a good defensive coach. Just too proud.
This is why I don't believe in drafting RBs in the first round.
There’s always a Buckhalter type you can just sign for free.
Or Edge, let's not forget him.
Remember when we made a big deal (good or bad, doesn’t matter) about that signing?

Him and Mewelde Moore, and guys like Michael Turner, Darren Sproles, Tashard Choice, do really well when the #1 or #2 RB goes down.
I think Orton just got concussed.
Maybe mild, but watch. It will be interesting to see if his decision making goes to balls.

Based on Tim Ruskell's history
would Seattle be more likely to draft a young player and coach him up, or go looking for the next Brad nJohson?

Draft a player, I would think.

Hard to go by history of grooming a QB since it’s probably only come up with him at the helm of an organization once or twice.
If there’s a QB he likes that is available like a Quinn or that guy GB cut, maybe he goes after him, or if he loves McCoy or someone in the draft, he’d go after him.

Does Romo remind anyone else of a white Seneca?
Scared to throw downfield, holds the ball too long, always in trouble in the backfield, consistently under/overthrows his targets, etc.
Not arguing that.
Though it’s funny that he’s demonstrably better and he’s still a totally average QB.
Seneca never fumbled the hold or lost 2 playoff games

It might be better if Denver plays well. That late first is good value.
just look at Indy
bob sanders has not played in nearly two years. Indy is better with him, but they are horrible without manning
It is what it is...
Has Manning missed a game in his career?
And Indy’s defense has looked pretty terrible without Sanders. Remember when they couldn’t stop anyone on the run?
Yeah, they somehow were able to stop the run, and got on a streak of 5 games or so.
And Sanders was playing in those games I think.
I'd have to think that the chances of a 1st round safety being good are better than a 1st round QB being good though.
But then you spent your 1st round pick on a freakin safety

You need strong pass rushers on the edge. Kerney is too old and Lo-Jack is above average to average.
we need a monster DE for the future if we want to keep running the Tampa 2.

Without those edge rushers, a Tampa 2 won’t work very well. Tampa Bay had them during their top years and the Colts have them now. If we’re going to rely on our front four for pressure, they have to be a truly elite unit.
If we were running an Eagles type zone blitz system then we’d be ok with average to above average DEs. Tampa two really needs those edge rushers to be strong.

Instead of Denver netting us a top ten pick
It looks like ours will be top ten and theirs will be in the 20s. I hate my life.

No red zone int
But Tony still lost because he sucks.
Really? He must be as big as a guard, I tried looking for him.
Seems dumb to not go to him in the end zone.
Someone get Jeff Gillooly on the phone
Let’s see how high and mighty Denver looks when half of THEIR starters get injured.
Baaaaaawwwwwwwwwww
And I was hungover throughout this failure of a Sunday. FML

Screw it
I never expected to go to the Super Bowl in 2005. I’m going to sit back and watch without expectations again and hope they surprise me again one of these years.
I'm about to quit watching football the rest of the season
If every week is going to be like this. And so far, it has.
I can handle 1-3 and losing to Manning.
But a 4-0 Denver? Seriously, the fuck?

They still have home games against KC and Oakland, plus a road game in Washington.
Seattle has a better chance of winning 12 in a row than Denver losing 12.
The bad luck of Seattle is completely flabergasting. I mean how does this much bullshit happen to one team.
I say we make a pact with the devil
At what cost?

We did. In 2005.
This is what we’re reaping from that pact.

I want a new O-line
I have no faith Walt is coming back. None that Locklear will ever be more than a below average left tackle when healthy, and zero that Frye, Willis or Wrotto can avoid costly penalties or protect whomever is sitting in the pocket. Trade Branch now for a 3rd round pick, trade down from our first 1st round pick next April getting another 2nd rounder, and use four of the first 5 picks on O-line. Start over except for Unger. Maybe re-sign Spencer. When we were dominating the division, we have very good to great O-line play. Today, it’s a shambles.
Problem is, we still need a QB.
Unless we’re damn sure Teel is going to save us, or we’re willing to sit through a bunch of 2-14 and 3-13 years while the O-line gets experience, drafting a QB will be a quicker fix. And let’s not forget we have holes to fill in the secondary, too.
I feel for you guys
It was difficult to watch that Indy game.
One way or the other Seattle will get that vaunted top 10 pick, just looks like it will be the unforeseen route this year.
I bet you're pretty happy.

COUGH
I enjoy watching and semi-pulling for the Hawks. These injuries are tough, though.
These past two games, I won't blame to injuries.
The San Francisco game, sure. Because that game… was… there isn’t a word that strongly describes the emotion that I feel for that game.
