Matt, Josh Wilson probable
The Seattle Times is reporting that Matt Hasselbeck, Josh Wilson, and Justin Griffith are probable for Sunday's game versus Jacksonville, which means a "virtual certainty" that they'll play. Thank you! Please stay healthy Matt, I don't think I could handle Seneca for any further games.
Josh Wilson is also a godsend. No more Travis Fisher!
Should we plug him back in at KR or take a lesson from the fact he was injured doing so and have him concentrate on CB? I'd hesitate toward the latter, seeing how Obomanu and Forsett have been decent returning kicks, and the fact our secondary has been so putrid.
Patrick Kerney is "questionable."
Also, interesting report by Sando:
Aaron Curry has been fined by the NFL in 3 out of 4 games so far.

It's been a little lost in the last couple of weeks
But I’m very, very excited about the presence Aaron Curry is bringing. He hasn’t quite become the terror of the league just yet, but he’s already making some huge plays, providing a steady contribution, and is only a little bit of experience away from becoming the game-changer we all want him to be.
For the first 4 games of the NFL career, Curry’s been absolutely awesome. I’m so stoked to be able to watch this guy for the next several years.
Well then.

Sweet, getting 3 starters back is huge!
I wouldn’t risk Wilson at KR just yet. I like what they’re doing with Burleson, wait till late in the game, and then if we need a spark, stick him back there for a return.
Probable = 75% chance they'll play
I’m liking our chances a lot better with Matt and Josh than without.

And having Griffith back should help our run game

Isn't he pretty dece
at extra pass protection too? Better than Schmitt?
And all the land was in ruin, and burnination had forsaken the countryside.
I'm not sure how great he is at pass-pro
but a healthy Griffith is better than a healthy Schmitt at this point. Schmitt will undoubtedly improve, but he’s not as good as Griffith (in this system) yet.

Did I miss something?
I thought Griffith was released.
OT Kyle Williams released, FB Justin Griffith re-signed to active roster.

Playin it safe
Our O-line was thin after Sims went down so the team released Griffith, who was slightly hurt, to bring in another Tackle to add depth. This allowed the Seahawks to get much needed insurance on the line for that week while they assessed the injuries to the line.
Very smart seeing as how there was no way Griffith was going to get picked up.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....
This O-line makes me miss Chris Gray in his later years
Our O-line used to have at least 4 highly durable beasts that took pride in never missing games. This O-line as far as O-lines go is populated by pieces of glass compared to the O-line Holmgren had when our offense was on top. We need some more Chris Gray’s and Robbie Toebeck’s. Lesser players maybe, but durable as a piece of iron.

Slight problem there.
Chris Gray was horrible.

Frustratingly durable

Chris Gray was not horrible.
He was substandard in his last 2 years because of age. But overall, he was a quality player over hsi years with Seattle.
Quite a difference from Brian Russell, who has always been a talentless scrub.
Shmitt
I think Owen is doing just fine. Julius has been getting some decent runs, not huge, but decent. That is probably more attributed to the O-line.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....
There was a study done (Sando I think linked it a week ago)
that showed when a player is listed as “probable,” there’s over a 90% chance he plays.
I'm surprised it's that low. It seems players who are listed as "questionable" play more often than not.
I will smash your face into a jelly.
by Phil Hatzenbuehler on Oct 9, 2009 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions
For some reason
I thought it was a 25%-50%-75% chance of playing for Doubtful, Questionable and Probable, respectively, but I think I might be wrong. But the teams pretty commonly manipulate these results, so they probably don’t mean what we expect them to mean on a regular basis.
""I wanted to be a quarterback, but I got hungry."
-LG Rob Sims
That was the guideline given by the league
to teams to set status. If they thought it was a 75% chance or better, they were to list them as probable. But yeah since there’s gamesmanship going on and such, and because it’s such an arbitrary determination to begin with, it’s got limits.
Great news!
After the bye week, we should have Truf, Locklear, Sims and Hill back. Now let’s stay healthy up until then!

This is it:
Put up or shut up. With these guys in the only real banged up part of our team is the O-line.
The Hawks should be better.

Wich Matt relys on very heavily...
If the O-line lets the Jags front sack Matt even once he could be right back on the sidelines.
Since we are at home. For some god Awful reason Matt should get hurt, the 12s should call for Teel.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....
Wouldn't mind seeing Rankin return kicks.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevan Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer
Wouldn't mind seeing Rankin on the 53-man roster, period.
I haven’t seen anything from Edge that makes me think he hasn’t totally fallen off the cliff. Now that Forsett’s really stepped up his game in pass-pro, I don’t see James finishing the season on the roster. Wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t make it past the bye. I know Rankin’s nothing special, but I’d at least like some move from the team that shows they’re trying to develop some fresh legs
"I'm tired of chasing after my dreams. I'll just find out where they're going, and catch up later." - Hedberg
Forsett's been good in pass-pro?
He had that good stall of Atogwe in the opener, but I’ve seen him whiff several times on blocks on third downs that led to punts since then.

Rankin
I would like to see him on the 53 as well. Rankin showed flashes of greatness while at UW and that was with terrible coaching, etc…
Rankin might be better than Forsett. I’ll admit, I was super gung ho on Forsett, and I still like him, but he hasn’t had many break out runs. Now, I will say, that he runs with heart. He does not quit. If he was Rankin’s size I think he would be better.
I ROCK out with my HAWK out, therefore I am....

Hi there
As a jags fan I want to ask you will this injury bagnged O-line can protect enough Matt on Sunday?
Life without knowledge is death in disguise
by Zoltan from Budapest on Oct 9, 2009 5:11 PM PDT reply actions
I think English is his second language.
Maybe you could rephrase that in Hungarian.
Zoltan, the line isn’t too bad. Wallace makes it look worse that it is.
Thanks
for the language defense (I mystyping a lot, but otherwise I’m pretty good in English-everyone can check my pieces at Big Cat Country)
As for the O-line, well if we have a healthy Reggie Heyward (who is looks like to be the only DE who can rush the passer-but was put on IR after week 1) I wouls be more optimistic about this game. Without him, I think it will be a veeeeery close game, the 2 teams are I think on the same level, and if something huge blow not happens on either side, the final score will be within a TD, maybe even within 3 points.
It is a game that too close to call at least for now.
One more question. Since our former safety Deon Grant is signec by the Seahawks, how is he playing for this team, and specially thiy year?
And how good is right now the Seahawks secondary?
Life without knowledge is death in disguise
by Zoltan from Budapest on Oct 9, 2009 6:20 PM PDT up reply actions
Our safety play hasn't been great.
Grant was great in 07 though.
The secondary in general isn’t playing well at all but our best corner, Marcus Trufant, is out until a few more weeks, and our next 2 best have been playing through minor injury.

Is any Seahawk DB who should the Jaguars be aware on Sunday?

Josh Wilson.
He had 4 interceptions last year, during his first season playing as a DB on a regular basis.
Is a playmaker, good chance of returning any interception for a TD.
Thank you
Now we all know the injury reports, what is your expectation for the game?
I think it will be close within 7 or even within 3. I hope somehow my team wins, but now with Hasselback is back it will be a veeery tough game!

Our odds to win
They went up a lot because of Matt’s return. I’m not prepared to make a prediction, though. It will be better than the Colts game.
our pass D is a lot better with Wilson and Tru than without
""I wanted to be a quarterback, but I got hungry."
-LG Rob Sims
Unlike the SF or Colts game, I do think the Seahawks have
a legitimate chance of winning. Having Matt and Josh Wilson back is beyond huge.
Also, watch out for our passing attack. Branch, Housh, Burleson, and Carlson are all quality receivers, while Obomanu and Butler are good depth.
Now these are the reasons
I’m not so confident unlike some fellow Jags fans for a W just yet.
Many jags fans thinks that this is a sure win, and I just cannot see it. And I was with that thought before Hasselbeck’s status.
The only think is why I still belive the jags can win this game are:
1: The injury wave at the Seahawks
2: How the Jags played in the last 2 games
3: he Jaguars rookie class(8 or 9 out of 9 playing per game, 4 or (with rookie WR Mike Thomas-watch out for him) 5 of them starting, and playing not bad!
3: The fact that last weekend the Jags coaches (specially OC Dirk Koetter) were dominant over Jeff fisher and his crew, a thing we not saw very often lately!

Jags would likely stomp our guts out and stuff their turkey’s with our offal.
Out to see A Serious Man. Anyone interested in a review tomorrow?
Looks like one those movies thats going to nab alot of awards.
Even if it isn’t my cup of tea.
Matt gets it off quicker and makes better reads into better protection
Matt’s not Peyton by a longshot, but he’s one of the better QBs at surviving behind a pretty average O-line. He makes them look better than they are, just like Wallace makes them look worse.
by ASeahawkfan on Oct 10, 2009 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions
This was very evident yesterday.
Even with Williams at LT, Matt was stepping up into the pocket instead of running like Seneca. The results speak for themselves.
I know there's probably more to it than meets the eyes
but the Jaguars are dead last with the amount of sacks they have as a team with 3.
I know you guys spent two high draft picks..in 07? On Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves Neither of them have sacks this year. So the question is, do we need to even worry about a Jaguars pass rush?
More reply fail. ><

I think Harvey is out for the season
But I might be wrong on that.
by Brendan Scolari on Oct 9, 2009 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions
Reggie Hayward is on I.R.
Harvey is starting and played well last week in the dismantling of the Titans.
I wouldn’t be fooled by the lack of sacks. The Jags are getting pressure and that is sometimes better than sacks. They’re also making sure they hit the quarterback whether they sack him or not. I’d still be a little concerned about Hasselbeck’s ribs and his ability to go the entire game. The Jags are likely to make it a point of emphasis to hit Hasselbeck early and often.
Jacksonville Jaguars. It's what I do.
our lack of a pass rush is a very big reason we're dead last in pass D
We mortgaged the entire 2008 draft for Harvey (1st, a 3rd, another 3rd, and 4th round picks)- if he continues his level of play to date – I will label him a flat out bust. I believe he did play his best game last week – but still no QB hits or sacks.
Groves has been demoted to 3rd string.
Groves needs to be traded before the deadline. Tampa anyone?
Really? It’s hard to sack the quarterback when he’s dropping on quick three step drops and dinking and dunking you like Warner did. There was hardly a chance to sack him. Nobody ever sacks Manning, that’s just way too hard. This defense hit and rattled Schuab. They are making progress.
This defense is hitting the quarterback. They just aren’t doing it enough. I think the pass rush will be good enough against a depleted offensive line.
Jacksonville Jaguars. It's what I do.
Curry is a dirty player!!!!

Sanchez
And I saw that play you linked to below when it happened, didn’t understand it then either. If your going to run with them why not at least try to make a tackle rather than doing that? It was dirty AND stupid, he could have hurt himself as well.
by Brendan Scolari on Oct 9, 2009 10:20 PM PDT up reply actions
I kind of think it was more stupid than dirty
He probably just freaked out there and tried to do something, whether it was effective or not. I’d say Favre’s cutblock was dirtier, because he should know what he’s doing.
It was more of a sophomoric joke (and an excuse to link to the gif), though, than a serious question.

Forsett is not that good a kick returner to me
Obomanu and Rankin would do a good job returning, leaving Burleson and Wilson far away from returns as possible no matter how awesome they’ve proven to be.
Seattle is cursed. For life.
a question for Seahawks
do you expect your D to be heavy with the blitzing this week? I saw highlights vs the Colts and it looked like they were heavy blitz – but since I did not see the game it may just have been the luck of the draw on the highlights chosen.
Thanks
From what I'm hearing from the coaches
We don’t blitz a ton. We rely a great deal on the front four for pressure and drop alot of guys back into zone coverage. We’ll probably be stacking the box alot against Jacksonvile. I hope our coverage can hold up if Garrard is having an on game.
by ASeahawkfan on Oct 10, 2009 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

Manning probably took advantages of holes in the coverage when we blitzed, leading to the highlights you saw.
