I know, the Chiefs and Niners were never big rivals

the way the Packers and Vikings have been.

I was just thinking about QB “greats” who finished their careers with another team, and whether they ever played their original team.

I’m sure the announcers will talk about this eventually. ;-)

I’m still pissed about the way they shafted Largent in order to give Rice his last hurrah

by Mr Fish on Nov 1, 2009 1:39 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It's not like Largent had a choice

They put him in the position of having to choose between being gracious or being a butthead. It wasn’t HIS idea to let Rice wear #80. The organization should have told Rice no and not put Largent on the spot.

by Mr Fish on Nov 1, 2009 1:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

As a Seahawk fan. I was offended

Rice’s time with us was nothing special. Largent’s was one of the highpoints of the franchise. Pushing him aside for Rice felt like they were saying that the Seahawks were always second-class.

I’d feel the same way if some player who’d played most of his career somewhere else came here and demanded to wear #12. I don’t care who he is, that number’s taken.

Honestly

Some people want to complain. I would just ignore them. If they say the game is over in the first, that’s just reflexive fandom. Ignore it. I used to get bent out of shape about it, but why bother? I think maybe people need more to look forward to than the Seahawks. Maybe I’m at peace because this loss was shitty, but my weekend was not.

by John Morgan on Nov 1, 2009 1:54 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think its stopping them before they get to the "I told you so" stage.

Like saying the game is over after 6 minutes in the 1st quarter and then in the 4th quarter when we are down by 21 points that person will sometimes refer to their past comments and go “see I told you so”.

However, since you don’t know me or anything about me, I doubt that should really mean much.

Just focus on doing what you do well

The “community” is just like the fans in the stands. Some people go to the games because they like being part of the crowd — for them, the coolest thing about winning is sharing the emotions of that crowd.

Other people are more interested in the game on the field than the one in the stands. I’ve always thought you were one of those, so I’m surprised to see you focusing on how the fans are reacting.

Seattle fans freaked the fuck out if Field Gulls is representative of the general fanbase. Teams that have already had a much worse Sunday than Seattle: Giants, Jets, Packers (most likely), Cardinals, Bill and Broncos. What was it about this game that inspired such anger?

by John Morgan on Nov 1, 2009 3:02 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I was only angry

At special teams. DeHaven is wildly inept. But I think people read into the preseason too much and expected the glory days to return just like that. I was expecting Dallas to win by more to be honest.

I’ve watched teams that had a core of talent significantly worse than this (2008 Seattle Mariners say hello). I can’t be all that upset because this team does have good players and the new schemes show promise. It’s not like we’re last season’s Detroit Lions or the Kansas City Royals.

I think our Sunday was worse than Denver.

If Seattle was 6-0 I think more people could easily shake the loss off and realize we aren’t going 16-0.

I think it’s just frustration, the team was really good for a while and now it’s not. There was some reason to believe the team could compete this year, so expectations were somewhat high.

Tough to say.

Just my opinion, but for me the Seahawks loss was more upseting than the Denver loss (If I was a Denver fan). I think I could shrug it off and realize the team is 6-1 and still in great position. I don’t think I was one of the bad ones in the thread so this is probably moot, but it’s really hard to accept that the Seahawks are bad.

It appears to me that they call the movie "Avatar" because his mind is controlling a labratory-grown alien body.

He’s not turned into an alien, but his mind and what he thinks and wants to do is projected in the other body; the avatar. At least that’s how I understood the preview. Yeah, you can say that if they can use someone’s mind in another body they should be able to fix a spine, but sometimes you have to suspend your disbelief. It looks entertaining, at least. A decent, if corny concept.

Paraplegic gets a chance to regain mobility by joining up with a military operation to displace the indigenous population of an alien planet for no reason than naked imperialism, inflitrates the alien race, realizes they’re not so bad and the military are the real bad guys, helps fight off the invasion, falling in love with one of the natives in the meantime.

Just saved everyone $12.

Almost every movie has a very basic and predictable plot at its core.

It’s the details that usually make a movie good or bad, I’ve found. But the “hero’s journey” stencil is in pretty much every single movie of that genre.

by BrettJMiller on Nov 1, 2009 3:41 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

This could just be because I don't see a whole lot of movies

But Avatar seems especially ham-handed in its plot development. Perhaps the trailer shouldn’t have given everything away, but the characters seem extremely one-dimensional. And I’m getting a very strong Starship Troopers-ish vibe from the military – like they’re taking over planets and engaging in xenocide for no reason but pure shiggles.

by Hmph on Nov 1, 2009 3:47 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Not so new

The plot seems very similar to this short story:

http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/10/james-cameron-stole-avatar-question-mark

Like Avatar, Call Me Joe centers on a paraplegic — Ed Anglesey — who telepathically connects with an artificially created life form in order to explore a harsh planet (in this case, Jupiter). Anglesey, like Avatar’s Jake Sully, revels in the freedom and strength of his artificial created body, battles predators on the surface of Jupiter, and gradually goes native as he spends more time connected to his artificial body.

Should the similarities between Avatar and Call Me Joe cause problems for Cameron, it wouldn’t be the first time. After The Terminator came out, writer Harlan Ellison sued the production company for plagiarizing two episodes he wrote for The Outer Limits. Even though Cameron took Ellison’s ideas in a very different and novel direction, the company settled with Ellison, who is now acknowledged in the film’s credits.

and this earlier animated movie:

Probably from a player personnel standpoint for sure, but as far as handling the dollars and all the little things about being a GM, probably not.

I think maybe because of their position we overestimate general managers

From my limited experience, they are no more geniuses than the head coach. And we as fans can sense that in the decisions they make, so we apply a mystique to the parts we don’t understand. If you think about it, there’s thousands of people who could handle the administrative aspect of being a general manager. Picking the players is what they do.

Matt Millen was a general manager.

I hate Tony Romo too much to want him on my team.

It also seems to me that he is vastly over rated.

by BrettJMiller on Nov 1, 2009 4:09 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think he is over rated at all.

If anything I think he gets to much unwarranted flack.

Agreed

Romo does a lot of good things.

by John Morgan on Nov 1, 2009 4:11 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

But like you were saying above, he doesn't really have a mind for football.

He’s definitely talented, but it seems to me that too often he makes baffling decisions. Sometimes he made the baffling decision in TO’s direction and it worked out. It’s not that he’s not good, but I just don’t see him as the star everyone says he is.

by BrettJMiller on Nov 1, 2009 4:14 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He's a star because of his story and his market

I try to ignore that. Romo the quarterback has a lot quality traits. He may make more mistakes in clutch situations, but I doubt that is predicative. I do not think Romo is hugely intelligent and McCoy seems, well, more intelligent than Romo.

See I think they gave Brees a bionic arm

when they supposedly just repaired it. As the years go by they’ve added upgrades

Shoot. Let the Suicide Watch begin anew.

Why let Adrian Peterson run free like that? Really?

Looked like Al Harris dragged Berrian into the end zone by the facemask.

I think they have the Titans next week, then the Bears.

They could win both of those, but I see 1-1, which would put them at 4-5.
