Yes, oh my god yes.
What this team needs is a new identity on offense. We need to bring in amazing players in the vein of Koren “Doink” Robinson and Jerramy “Hands” Stevens. Another thing that needs to happen is that we need to draft a quarterback that doesn’t match our offensive system, is nearing the peak of his talent already as a rookie, and spend five years molding him into something approaching mediocre.
And I’m telling you, these offensive players that the LOSER RUSKELL has been bringing in are bringing this team down. Hard. Lofa Tatupu? Leroy Hill? Josh Wilson? The bustosity of Brandon Mebane? Pathetic. Give me hard-nosed, incredible football talents like Anton Palepoi, Michael Boulware, Solomon Bates, and Orlando Huff. Man, those were the days. We kicked some serious ass with those monsters on the field.

I don't see the point in commenting on it until it becomes realistic
Ruskell will probably be extended, whether he should be or not. It would be awkward if he wasn’t considering the brand new coaching staff and the implied coaching turnover of a new GM.
If he’s not, Holmgren is probably an unlikely option since he already had a turn as Seahawks GM. How often do you see a GM return to a former team? Especially in cases where his first stint was a mixed bag?
This subject was fun to talk about a long time ago, but has been beaten to death and is now a boring, blase topic. Plus I just don’t see it happening. I do think Holmgren gets a lot more shit than he deserves for his time as GM and even-handed accounts of his GM tenure are hard to find. Holmgren improved as a coach when he dropped his GM duties. Its possible he may improve as a GM without HC duties. I don’t think he’d be a horrible GM if he returned, but I seriously doubt that will ever happen. Its not like he needs Seattle’s sympathy either. Teams will be lining up around the block for his services this offseason, either as GM or HC.

Actually,
I didn’t comment at all about whether or not Holmgren replacing Ruskell was good or bad. Just saying its an unrealistic, beaten-to-death topic that is partisan in nature.

it was still a comment on the subject at hand.

I find people's dislike of Holmgren to be odd.
I think people forget that he has been Seattle’s most successful coach. Those that say he’s too old school need to realize that he was with the Hawks from 2000-2008 (or something like that), which is… not too long ago. Sure I guess you could say that it was due to his coaching, but most of the anti-Homgren guys seem to have gripes with his coaching style as well.
Holmgren had about 5 years of drafting? In my mind that’s too small of a sample size to declare him success or a bust.

People dislike him as a GM. I had few problems with him as coach.
by redwolf75 on Nov 10, 2009 8:07 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I had a problem with the coaches he surrounded himself with and his conservative playcalling as a coach.
by BrianL on Nov 11, 2009 2:26 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I had the same issues but I found those outweighed
by his other abilities as a coach. No coach is perfect, they all have their own quirky flaws.

yeah, I would have liked to see more of the players he drafted still playing personally.
but I had issues with his conservative side too.

Never really got why people bash conservative coaches
Especially Holmgren, who destroyed the NFL for most of his coaching career in GB/SEA with predictable playcalling. Even if a defense knows what is coming, it can be difficult to stop elite talent playing with perfect execution.
That plus you hardly ever hear fans clamor for “liberal” coaches like Mike Martz. Thinking outside the box is only hip until it stops working. Then they question every choice you ever make.
While the conservative “play it safe” mentality is not perfect, I think it is part of a larger mentality of playing focused, mistake free, perfect football. By running those 3rd down draws that everyone hated, he may not have made the first down, but he avoided the huge mistake that could decide the game or ruin the momentum of an offense that requires near perfection to excel. That in hand went along with how the Seahawks were regularly one of the NFL’s least penalized teams every year.
I’d take the conservative, predictable playcalling any time if it came with a disciplined, mostly mistake free team that was a threat to drive 80 yards and score every time it touched the ball. And for most of Holmgren’s career, that is exactly what he did.

first off
Holmgren was here for ten years not eight.
Second: Holmgren had the same amount of drafts as Ruskell, so far.
Your points aren’t that sound unless you back them with evidence.

He also had higher draft picks, on average, than Ruskell

2000-2008 implies 9.
I’m just saying the body of evidence suggest him to be a horrible drafter.
No real evidence needed since I’m not really making a point except don’t say a guy sucks at drafting over a sample size of 50 or so picks.
by LantermanC on Nov 11, 2009 2:23 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Suggest him to NOT be a horrible drafted. Need to proof read more.
Also need to remember about these fan shots.

Your second point, I believe is false.
Unless you mean to imply only Seahawks’ drafts.

seahawks drafts.
Was Holmgren GM at GB? I didn’t think he was the guy drafting players.

His time at GB took place when I was too young to remember the details
but I was under the impression that he took the Seattle job because it gave him the opportunity to be a GM and a coach, something he couldn’t do at Green Bay.
by BrianL on Nov 11, 2009 9:30 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Correct- as Seahawks GM:
Holmgren had 4 drafts. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002
Ruskell had 5 drafts. 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

Doesn't the opening post author mean Holmy?
I didn’t know how much I could hate an endearing name abbreviation until I read the name Holmy used every other post. I want to see what Second half fight this team puts up before I characterize what we have anywhere. Too many speculative changes without even 16 games played to know what we have with any consistent facts.
