Julius hospitalized with broken ribs, bleeding lung

Damn.

Seahawks RB Julius Jones has bleeding in his lung stemming from a broken rib and was kept at an Arizona hospital overnight.

Nov 15, 2009 - Seahawk's RB Julius Jones left the game against the Cardinals' early with an apparant rib injury.  The Seattle Times' Danny O'Neil reported that Julius Jones has suffered a broken rib and would be kept overnight in an Arizona hopsital for observation.  Then at 7 p.m. PT, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the situation is even more serious:

Seahawks RB Julius Jones has bleeding in his lung and was kept at an Arizona hospital while team returned to Seattle.

Pray hard for our running back.

I hope he’s ok.

Prayers for Julius Jones.

Oh shit..

Here’s hoping to a speedy recovery.

Wow talk about your shitty days

- Your team loses a critical game effectively ending your season.

- Your replacement looks way better than you. Even the 3rd string RB fresh off the street looks good.

- You won’t back for several weeks giving your talented replacements an extended audition.

- Seattle was not your first pit-stop. If they play well and win your job, there’s a non-zero chance you’ve started your last game as an NFL RB.

- You have a bleeding lung, probably due to the broken ribs.

- Your team flies off without you and you are forced to sit in an Arizona Hospital for an undetermined amount of time with nothing to think about except the things listed above.

Someone who has a bleeding lung may not be able to, oh, I don't know... BREATHE.

What’s more, it sounds damn painful. He may very well be in ICU with assistance breathing, and likely substantially medicated. I seriously doubt he’s thinking about how Forsett or Rankin played.

I don’t know… just sayin’.

So what you are saying is

He’s so fucked that he can’t even think about how fucked he is.

I’ve defended JJ many times. He seems like a good guy and gets more shit than he deserves. I’ll definitely include him in my prayers.

Pretty much, yeah. Well said.

I like him and have been a defender too.

I also hope I’m wrong and he was up all night in modest pain, and is starting to think about your excellent “long term” list of woes.

I have to disagree here.

Sure he’s in pain and this is a bad injury, but I don’t know how you can conclude that he’s not thinking about his job security. If Forsett and Rankin both play well, and for whatever reason Ruskell deems Jones to be expendable or too expensive, Jones may be cut and have to find a job again. Moving to a new city, having to find the right situation for him playing time-wise, etc. I’m not saying he is thinking about these things, just saying that it’s possible.

by LantermanC on Nov 16, 2009 10:27 AM PST up reply actions

Sure. Anything's possible.

Maybe he’s got a bleeding lung and he’s wondering what he’s going to cook for Thanksgiving Dinner.

I’m saying priority-wise, I doubt this is high on his list at the moment. I also think this goes into the realm of conjecture about the mental state/motivation of an athlete, that we shouldn’t guess to ascertain.

I’m simply saying right now his health, and not his life as a Seahawk is probably first on his mind, and it should certainly be on ours as well. That’s all.

Get well Julius.

I promise you

every NFL playing is thinking, about who might steal their spot and whether that game was the last one etc. Even medicated he’s thinking ‘oh shit’.
Its not as bad as like… a Theisman leg break or a McGahee knee mangle, but everything more than a bruise is thinking fuel.

by Strictnine on Nov 16, 2009 12:03 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree. Entirely.

When I played college hoops, I was NEVER thinking about who was trying to steal my spot. Few of the starters even considered the potential that we could lose our spots. We thought we were better than the subs. Hell, we thought we were better than everyone we played against, too— right or wrong.

Fear might be your motivation, and it might be other people’s as well. However, don’t guess as to anyone else’s motivation.

Everyone is wired differently. Some people think about everything, worry about everything, consider all possibilities. Some people put their all into what they do and don’t worry about the outside world, others think exclusively about the outside world. But, again, everyone is different, and not everything is “thinking fuel” for everybody.

I completely respect your point of view...

But were you ever sitting in a hospital bed with a serious injury, while someone younger and faster was finishing the game for you?

Definitely, you’re right, different people think differently, and I suspect some rookie sensation isnt thinking about it so much, but look at Julius Jones.
I think only someone with superhuman focus wouldnt be worried about Forsett and Rankin behind him.

some people’s source of motivation.

good lord

a quick recovery, Julius

You never want to see this happen to any player.

But that’s it one of our own, please get well quickly Julius. I always liked you.

I actually bought a Betancourt t-shirt.

We can't know that.

In any case, bleeding of the lungs is a serious condition, and as such, is treated very seriously.

One of those awful moments

Where the reality of a serious injury invades the bubble of the sports world.

Get well, JJ. We’re all here for you.

Good News.

http://blog.seahawks.com/2009/11/16/jones-has-bruised-chest/

"It wasn’t a rib. It’s a bruise causing bleeding in his lungs," Mora said. "It doesn’t appear to be anything real serious. It’s serious obviously or he wouldn’t be in a hospital, but it’s something he’ll recover from quickly."

Now that we know he’s okay, I’m cool with commencing on the “Holy Shit, what happened to my job and who the fuck is this Rankin guy” train.

Great news.

I’m glad he’s going to be fine sooner than expected.

What happened in the play where he got hurt?

Somehow I don’t remember seeing that particular play.

by Mr Fish on Nov 16, 2009 12:22 PM PST reply actions

Andre Johnson suffered a chest contusion a few weeks back

And he was back the next week.
Obviously they’re different people and different injuries etc., but hopefully it won’t be too severe an injury, maybe 2-3 weeks out?

*prays*

Most of the other Cardinals fans I have seen talking about this feel bad for him too.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.

No band-wagoner fans allowed, pick a team and stick with em, throughout the good and the bad.

Speaking of injured Seahawks

Anyone hear about Dockett jamming his elbow into Matt’s throat when he got his sack? I didn’t even see it happen, but it apparently did per Sando’s knowledge . Fuck that. Shit head better get fined.

by DJ C-Raig on Nov 16, 2009 2:30 PM PST reply actions

At the time I thought it was pretty dirty.

It isn’t that his elbow wasn’t accidentally there, but he certainly didn’t attempt in the least bit to reduce the pressure or move it, and he was extremely slow to get off of Hass. If anything, instead of rolling off of him, he increased pressure.

It was the sort of play that dirty players will claim was a misrepresentation and they didn’t mean to do it, and you can’t completely discard that potential, but it is something that certainly could have been avoided, and should have been.

My verdict— DOUCHE MOVE, FINE HIM!!!

Yeah, they showed a replay during the game.

Fucking bullshit.

I will smash your face into a jelly.

Get well JJ and god bless you

I wouldn’t think that the injury would be as serious as it is but I do hope that JJ makes a speedy recover. God bless you JJ.

Oh... that's just fucked up.

I prefer Forsett over Jones, but I would never, ever, ever, ever, wish that on Jones.
