I love the Texans' regular home unis. Why the hell are they wearing their Battle Reds tonight?
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Go Texans I guess
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
Since I like playing with Vince Young, go Titans?
Though I do hope Schaub throws for 300 yards and 3 tds.
For my FF teams' sake, can Slaton not suck tonight for a change?
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
So much talent on the field tonight,
I don’t need to pick a side. Just sit back and enjoy.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
Can we combine Cushing and Curry
To make a “Ima blow you the f*** out” LB?
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
Cushing is pretty awesome.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I used to see him on campus all the time
Dude looked like an 80s head banger.

Hey fellas
Did you hear Mora’s comments (here) on Aaron Curry and his inconsistent improvement. He said that He was taking more off of Curry and letting him learn the role of a 1st and second down LB first, when he gets that they’ll add more. I think that’s a good idea. Thoughts?
I did read that and I don't like it.
As unsure and hesitant as he appears to be out there at times, I think he needs to stay out there and have less asked of him. Just allow him to fly around and hit people. It’s probably no the most sound coaching philosophy, but he’s in his own head right now and a “demotion” could exaggerate that.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
Yeah, I see the truth in what you're saying
But is it also possible that getting beat so much would get in his head too? Or maybe that it is better to get great and fundamentals and then add on coverage downs, rather than just saying “learn everything”, kind of like how you group things when you memorize them rather than trying brute memorization?
Mora also said he doesn’t want to play rookies just to give them XP, but wants to play the players that give the best chance of winning. I agree with this, because I love winning, and because I understand that it is 1.) A drug that football teams need to survive, and 2.) the only currency accepted in the NFL. But I don’t agree with it because I want us to be a better team next year, and XP now will probably help that.
I love winning too, lol.
And you’re right, it’s a difficult balance to reach. You don’t want to shatter a players confidence, so I understand where you’re coming from. I guess the question is whether he is struggling because he hasn’t mastered his assignments and is thinking his way through plays. Or if he’s overmatched physically at this level, at the moment. If it’s a matter of assignment, I say let him play per my previous post. If it’s an ability issue, then I would agree to reduce his time and put him in those situations where he would have a high probability of success to build his confidence.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
Say what you will about Vince Young,
but he’s got a big league arm.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
I like his throwing motion
As slow as it is.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
He's like the Ernie Els of football.
Slower, smooth delivery and the ball goes for miles. (Did that make sense?)
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
Jeff Fisher is a special person.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
NFL teams really need to run the option more often.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
It's weird that 5 years ago no one would've made this statement
“You don’t see the option in the NFL because of the speed difference”
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
In general it seems like teams are trying a bit more original plays this year
(I admit, as I do often, that I’m newish to the NFL, only watching for 6 years, so I have limited perspective)
You have the wildcat, all the variants of it, even the “Seneca package”.
Definitely more fun to watch.
That's kind of how the NFL works
everyone will say a certain tactic won’t work, then one team will try it and have success with it and people will call it a gimmick but pretty soon everyone will have some variation on it.
I wonder how long it will take Oregon and West Virginia/Michigan’s spread running styles to proliferate to the NFL. I guess they already sort of are.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
Jerome Boger is the worst ref in the NFL as far as articulation
Actually overall he’s terrible.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
Beautiful drive from Vince Young
The fact that Fisher wait until they were 0-6 to make this switch should be enough to put him on the hot seat.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
If he can somehow make it work with Young this year
And get to say 8-8, then he is not bad in my book hehe.
Also I hope that the game against us means something to them.
Which reminds me, I need to flog the tickets, can’t make the game :(
(And no, that’s not a hint here)
Rest of their schedule
Cardinals, Colts, Rams, Dolphins, Chargers, Seahawks.
That’s possible.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
I'm not sure where I stand on him
on the one hand he’s the most amazing football player I’ve witnessed in person.
On the other hand he cost us that Rose Bowl just as much as Vince and the refs.

Bud Adams: Coolest owner ever?
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
I kind of want the hawks to draft Tebow
Just because of how fun it will be reading everything you write about him, he seems to really get you excited hehe
I REALLY want the hawks to not draft Tebow
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
That cures diseases for every successful passing play?
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
Honestly me too, but just because of the preachy religeon stuff
I’m an atheist Jew (that is I was born into the jewish nation and I don’t believe in God).
Now I have no problem with anyone’s religeon at all, but hearing about it every single game would really bug me, not the actual belief itself.
I don't think their running styles are the same at all
Vince is tall, lanky and quick. Tebow is a full back who has regressed as a passer this season.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
I just give Andre the Giant the edge.
Fitz’s hands are incredible, but Johnson just trucks bitches. He is a fast Boldin. A beast Fitz.
They are different, and would work with different quarterbacks and in different systems
as for which is more valuable, that’s unknowable.
That kind of logic doesn't make for fun conversation.
If we started using discernment and recognizing things as “unknowable” then what would we yell about when drunk?
Quantum physics
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
Where does Calvin Johnson fit into the conversation?
by BrettJMiller on Nov 23, 2009 7:42 PM PST up reply actions
Second tier, I think
the hard to differentiate group of Randy Moss, Steve Smith, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston, Steve Smith, etc.
He's young but he's earned his way into the conversation.
He has legit speed and excellent route running.
He is by a lot of people
Along with Fitz, Moss, Calvin Johnson etc.
Calvin Johnson does not belong in that conversation
He will, he will, but not yet. Drops, spotty routes, lacking concentration in traffic—he doesn’t need to correct all of it, but he needs to improve to be in the coversation.
Yeah, but both his parents are doctors
And he designed a plumbing system for African villages in college. So….I guess that makes him better than everybody.
He's on my fantasy team
Therefore he is in the conversation for me!
I wonder if every time a player is said to be "shooken up"
he has in fact experienced irreversible brain trauma.
How much of your mental capability would you sacrifice for a good stout?
by John Edwards on Nov 23, 2009 8:32 PM PST up reply actions
It's amazing how many cute names they have for various forms of neurological trauma.
“Stinger” is one of my favorites.
I have minor spine injuries
(I have 2 herniated discs touching nerves).
I wish I had access to NFL quality pain killers and a Doctor that would allow me to use them.
That sucks.
When I played football I got hit weird and strained the ligament connecting my rib to my 4th thoracic vert. Now I sneeze sometimes and it feels like a knife in the back. Back injuries are complicated and shitty.
Herniated disc
is more serious than a stinger though. Stinger is generally just a brief compression on the nerves due to the head getting forced down or back.
Hasselbeck vs. Boller (see fanshot)
O/U on checkdowns and interceptions?

This has been a good year for rookie linebackers

Oddly it has been a bad year for the USC defense
especially the linebacking group.

Houston loves their gritty white receivers

They need Joe Jurevicious and Kevin Curtis
I miss Joe

Because we needed room for B-Russ
Joe was my favorite as well

Yeah just read on 'pedia that he's sueing the browns
Kind of Karma for wanting to leave the team that he did the best at.
There was a playoff game last year with the Chargers, forget who it was against.
But Sproles in overtime I believe had a lateral run that looked as fast as his sprint. It was amazing.
Stay thirsty my friends.

This next February, when the annual stream of "The NFL Combine" doesn't matter columns flood the internet
remember Chris Johnson. 4.25, Chris Johnson.
I still think this is one of those
“Vince Young just wins football games” kind of games.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
In his first year in the NFL
Vince put up ugly stats but the team won games and made the playoffs, so he earned a reputation as being a QB who “just wins games” despite the fact that in most of those games the team won IN SPITE of his efforts.
So I feel like tonight will be one of those games where he will be ugly but maybe make a couple of plays after the defense/Chris Johnson do something more important to help the team win.

I just don't get through that kind of volume, which I guess is why I allow myself to only drink the good stuff.
An 11 buck 6 pack isn’t that big an investment when I drink 3 beers a week.
If you like their pale, definitely give their Torpedo Extra IPA a chance.
It’s wonderful. Sierra Nevada is a macrobrewery that makes microbrewery quality beer.

I walk past a Zupan's on my way home
Their selection is amazing and I’m beginning to get too used to awesome beers. Might have to go drink a sixer of Keystone to bring myself down to earth.
I feel like I may be getting TOO used to this beer
And someday someone is going to offer my a Carlsberg and I’ll turn it down and look like a shit head.
I'm sure he could break me in two
I don’t associate toughness with masculinity. Nor do I associate George with masculinity.
Oh no, I totally agree he's effiminate
He’s also a fucking bad ass. Him and John Riggins were my heroes when I played football because I was bigger and not as fast.
I don't think he was AS good as he was made out to be
But there aren’t too many backs who really do seem to punish defenders (contrary to what commentators say) as well as he did. Brandon Jacobs is another of those.
He and Jacobs will probably have the same career
So if you think Jacobs sucks, then you are probably right in thinking he sucked. Or that’s my interpretation of it.
Bear Pascoe made a run at it before he got cut
Did anyone pick him up?
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
You're too esoteric for your own good.
Welcome to Dennis Millerville.
Damn.
Miller?
His routine was Britannica madlibs.
At least Chittagong Horn Beavers is funny sounding.
Miller is extreme, but I'm struggling to come up with a comedian who even approaches his MO.
I’m used to people pandering to dumb.
I think the Simpsons is what I shoot for
classic comedy rules and routines executed to perfection and inflected high and low brow.
I've always thought London Fletcher was a cool name.
But then there’s Lekerkerker on the Chargers, which is awesome.
Wait, if Houston just took a TO because they realise the TD is for sure
and the want to save time, WHY TACKLE HIM ON THE 1 YARD LINE?
It's not just that, it's everything about him
He drives me crazy. The chubby bastard is just irritating.
I'm pretty sure the idea of power backs is stupid
Chris Johnson would have scored there just as easily.
I've long wondered if I am capable of scoring on some of those goal line runs.
I have no delusions of any ability to play in the NFL (or get up from said plunge into the end zone), but it can’t require some gargantuan.
It's not scoring on the easy ones that would be your problem
it would be the ones where the LB dives over the OL and DL and smacks you in the face.
What an anticlimactic ending to the half

Take a sack trailing by 6 on the opponent's 5-yard line with 4 seconds remaining in the game.
If he hasn’t done it yet, hope he doesn’t start again this year.
Nah
We wouldn’t get there. He’d fumble the snap.
Seattle Seahawks: The only team in the NFL to trail 17-17 according to Dick Stockton.
The best part
Is when one team has two penalties for say, 30 yards, and the other team has a penalty for 10 yards, math takes over and says the team with the 10 yard penalty will get moved 20 yards downfield based on yard accumulation.

I'm sure it does. You could run some awesome fades in that thing.

The name makes me want to buy it, but I’m worried it might just be Scottish Budweiser.
I really enjoyed it when I had it over in Scotland this year.
I was a bit inebriated when I had it, but usually I don’t review if I know I’m too drunk to give a fair review. It’s 8.5%, so it’ll get ya drunk. I’ll skip all the aroma and mouthfeel stuff and just copy and paste my flavor review: “Spicy for certain, but not too strong, especially for a beer that is 8.5%. Wait…what?
The blazers aren't winning because of Oden and the team that Durant plays for isn't losing because of Durant
Football truism
maybe not true. I think, like most sports, the more extreme the physical requirements, the higher the replacement value.
That's certainly true with respect to the availability of talent at that position.
However, transcendent is transcendent and you’re more likely to find that out of a larger pool of candidates.
To me, guys always show at least flashes of what they can become in their earlier incarnations.
Oden has always been bigger and stronger. He’s solid defensively, but he’ll have to be more than Theo Ratliff to measure up. I saw tons of Oden in college (Northwestern guarded him with a 6’6" kid from Highland Park) and never saw the offensive understanding that makes a good post player.
Oden may turn out to be a pretty darned good NBA player.
Durant may teabag millions on his way to the Hall of Fame
Plus humans that large are just always going to be massive injury risks.
I’d rather have the transcendent and versatile small forward and a more replacement level center (Brendan Haywood?) than Dwight Howard and Thaddeus Young.
My only concern about Oden is the long term health of his knees
Other than that, I would still select Oden over Durant.
The way the game is officiated these days, the advantage goes to perimeter players.
Unless you’re looking at someone truly special like Duncan, I take Durant.
It's not just Duncan
Most champions have good big men. Garnett transformed the Celtics. The Lakers won with a healthy Bynum—were transformed by trading for Gasol.
It's hard to sort that out of recent champions because, aside from Miami,
they’ve all been extremely deep and balanced teams.
Not yet
but he was supposed to be better and could be. Last season he was recovering from microfracture and so this is like a second rookie season as he relearns his body. People have given up on Oden prematurely.
Well I was never that high on Oden to begin with
To your point above about availability of talent I think that Oden can be one of the best centers in the league. I think Durant can be one of the best swing men in the league. Being better than guys like Marion and Jefferson and Jackson means a lot more than being better than Hawes, Perkins and modern day Shaq.
