Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

SBN Layout Upgrade

As you no doubt have noticed, SBN underwent a layout change overnight.

This update contains little or no actual function changes, but rather is mostly about the visual presentation. Please use this fanpost to courteously post your feedback regarding the changes. From what I understand the SBN devs are hopping from blog to blog to see what people think.

A few thoughts of my own:

  • The new layout seems too bright and it would be nice to get our old color scheme back in place
  • I would prefer if article titles could go back to being center-aligned instead of left-aligned
  • Load times do seem to be much improved
The good folks at SBN Headquarters have worked hard on this format and do care what all of us have to say, so in the comments feel free to give them some feedback.

Besides the obvious visual differences, I see no real differences.

I wish they had come up with a way to make good posts easier to comment on for longer periods of time. For instance, if John Morgan makes a good post about Ruskell’s design thus far or a comparison of Locker, Bradford, Clausen, and McCoy, it will be buried after two or three days, never to be commented on again (or at least not easily). But if a normal poster at FG writes a post that is recommended by others, it will be up at the top for several weeks.

It is faster.

But that’s in comparison to the past month.
It’s about the same as it was in March I think?

Not for me.

Especially when I goto manage blog.

Is there a way to search through "Greened" comments?

Something like the “Z” thing for new comments, only instead of only in one thread, in all threads?

Sorry, I didn't mean a comment I meant an article or story.

When John writes three pieces a day, it’s hard to have any discussion on it sometimes because it’s off the front page two days later.

Hate the amount of white and the wordpress/blogspot feel (Samething brianL is talking about)

Center the titles instead of align left.

Other then that its works great.

Agree too "white"... how about a light grey or something? Do you have any (long term) control?

I also like how every SB Nation site has/had their own individual (team based) color scheme.

I’m cool with it being a little more basic, if only it isn’t so whitecentric.

Holy crap this new layout is way faster.

If we can just get a few tweaks in place we’re in business.

by BrianL on Nov 3, 2009 11:40 AM PST reply actions

I agree about the color.

A little too much white/brightness for my taste.

I prefer the headings left-aligned

It looks more like a news article heading than it did before. I’m not quite sure I can express how. I also really like the new heading font.

I basically completely disagree with this.

Not that you’re wrong or anything.

Ditto.

I think there should be a grey box around each article

words just kind of float into the milky white

also the little “blurb” for each site might look better in a facebook style open text box just below the site logo, instead of on a banner on the top.

Agreed, a little more definition between stories and also between the front page and the side bars would be good

Otherwise I think it’s great. The fast load times more than make up for any layout issues.

I hope that the top-most banner can be changed.

Surely a beach with palm trees has no place on a Seattle Seahawks blog.

Signatures are lame and distracting

Particularly in mobile commenting, where they read as regular comment text

For those of us not cool enough to have mobile commenting iphones or whatever,

they bring a nice personal touch to the site…

Looks pretty good to me.

Then again, I have so many “block this” and “block that” added to Firefox that I’m not sure how much has been changed. Seems to be loading faster though.

To be Honest....

Usually, changes that are strictly visual from a dev team mean that there is something else being planned that requires a revised format. We will obviously see if that is the case here.

I personally like lighter formats anyway. Its the reason I go back to yahoo so often.

Antiseptic white-blah bullshit.

C’mon SBNation, make things not only worth reading, but worth LOOKING AT too. This white crap has gone on far enough, DAMMIT!!!
