Seattle Releases Edgerrin James
The man I affectionately call Swamp Foot will need to find a new home for his farewell tour. The Seattle Seahawks have released Edgerrin James. James showed a decent burst at the end of last season and occasionally this season, but little else, including basic cutting skills. Seahawks fans will fondly remember him falling while attempting to cut, his ability to rush for three yards and sometimes less, and his much touted pass blocking. He could pass block like a center and run like a guard.

Best of luck to Edge.
At least now we wont have to listen to announcers tell us that once Edge gets going he’s going to be a big part of this offense.

Peerman would be nice,
but I’m guessing that won’t happen unless they release Rankin as well. But then again, now that the team is pretty much as healthy as it’s going to get, I’m not sure what other position we’d go after.
Are there any special teams standouts available that maybe don’t have a job because they don’t bring anything else to the team? As long as we’re healthy maybe we can afford to dedicate a spot to a specialist.

Danny's tweet sounds bad
Terminated Edgerrin James? Maybe Ruskell killed him.
Mike Hass was activated from the practice squad to fulfill are “Gritty White Guys” requirement. No actually Obo had an injury (oblique muscle pull I think) and while it’s not serious Hass is on the 53 man roster.

I got the tip from Seahawk Addicts
but they didn’t link to or cite anybody, so screw them.
I’m thinking that this is a good move. Edge got his last few yards to get into the top 10 in rushing yards but he couldn’t move the chains. Putting him in the backfield telegraphed the pass like putting Duckett in telegraphed the short run.
I don’t know what to expect from Rankin as a runner, but hopefully he’ll reinvigorate our return game.

No “Edgerrin Tyree James” post with a montage of photos highlighting his career? ;-)
If nothing else you ride your undevalued guys to the end John (Campbell and Peerman). :-)

I still think Seattle should re-sign Courtney Taylor.

Sando on the cutting (of) Edge
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/8245/why-the-seahawks-released-edge
James apparently became a luxury the team couldn’t afford once it struggled to a 2-5 start, particularly with Justin Forsett backing up the promise he showed during the preseason (minus that fumble Sunday).
That probably explains why the team released James on Tuesday. James isn’t contributing on special teams and the Seahawks aren’t getting much from him in the running game.
I would expect the Seahawks to give playing time to recently signed running back Louis Rankin, who played for offensive coordinator Greg Knapp in Oakland.

Rankin
scored a nice TD against the Hawks this preseason, if I recall.

He's also worked under Knapp in Oakland

Sando's right, Edge was a luxury we can't afford
If NFL marketing wants to continue milking the story about him pursuing career rushing records, maybe it should be on the Colts’ roster and the Colts’ dime. As someone else said, he was a Seahawk for what, 3 minutes?

It's too bad that the author of this post rips on a class guy like James. Nice blog.

Yeah, he's real classy.
As long as classy means “plod at defenders, then fall down like a wet turnip.”
Again, good riddance. You were never a Seahawk, “Edge.”

There's a subtle difference in their running styles
Edge would get stopped when he ran into defenders while Shaun would stop before he got to defenders.
