Not only do you live in Iowa, but your team was undefeated and fantastically lucky to the point they were made into a national joke
Then, before they can get to a huge game against Ohio State, they lose to Northwestern.
Still, the game against Ohio St. remains big. They can still win the conference. But I don’t like their chances.
They were never going to make it to the BCS
But still, Northwestern? Really?

Oh, I forgot to mention something else.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Enjoy yourself.
Who knew both teams losing their quarterback would swing the outcome so much. Aron did.
I was ecstatic when Persa entered the game.
As I’ve belabored to no end, Kafka throws a short pass to his first read or stands around waiting to be flushed or sacked. Take away his left leg and he’s a disaster.
This is just another classic game in the series with Iowa. Like… this one.
Washington needs to recruit only defensive players and offensive linemen next year
Come on Huskies!
Fire Bruce DeHaven.

I'm too damn busy today
but I am recording the LSU/Alabama game. Just turned on the TV to see a nice deep pass from Colt McCoy.
Yeah but other then that one play, the other 382 yards were clearly all on dink and dunk short passes no longer then 5 yards
Just means he'd be awesome throwing a mid-deep out route in the NFL.
It would flutter in there like a nice soft butterfly…about 5 seconds too late.
Nifty.
Is that just some random picture or is that actually a graph of that pass he threw today?
If the latter, that’s cool.

It's from the link provided
I skimmed his article, but Timothy Gay did similar research in his book the Physics of Football.
Ahh.
I recorded the 2nd half, I’ll take a closer look, but your probably right. What part of the game was that in?
5 yard line the pass is away and caught on the 46 of UCF.
Slow-motion … :)
I have to say, he doesn’t throw a really tight spiral from what I’ve seen. Both short throws and everything else. I suspect he wouldn’t be good for a windy city. I’d love to be wrong about his arm. It would just mean one more QB to choose from for teams, increasing our chances of landing one of the top guys.
My point is
if McCoy can throw a pass accurately 41 yards, then we should not be concerned about his deep ball.
That doesn't mean he can make all the throws
but excuse my frustration with this obsession with arm strength. The history of busts is the history of great arms.
UW already beat you there.
Better yet, they’re actually getting a Montana.

I want him to see that replay. Doesn’t have a deep ball? My ass he doesn’t.

The one that Morgan just posted.
I would have thought that my replying to his post would have implied which replay that I was talking about.

Computer' going too slow
Can’t watch it right now. But how can you say I can’t judge him based on one game and then say he has a deep ball based on one play?
I stand by what I said by the way, he doesn’t look like a first round prospect to me at all and most of the draft “experts” I respect agree. I’ll laugh at whichever teams takes him in the first couple rounds, unless of course it’s a team I like.
by Brendan Scolari on Nov 7, 2009 6:43 PM PST up reply actions
Because one play is enough to show you that a player has the arm strength to make a singular throw in question?
Whereas the basis of your opinion is supposedly based on an observation that has taken place over several games, but you only cite one game? I’ve watched about 12 of his games, and your statements contradict my observations about him.

Not mean
I try to research stuff when i can before I form an opinion so I tend to be fairly hard to budge. Honestly though, the thing I said about McCoy are not unfair. If you read what I posted in the other thread about McCoy there are lots of other draftniks who share my thoughts.

Who are you scouting in that one?
Scott, Cody….others? Not a big fan of either, but Ingram looks special.
Black
LSU always has talent. Not Cody, but I would take him over Cole if Seattle is intent on the double nose. I record lots of games. That’s how I know what I’m talking about rather than paraphrasing third-hand, fraudulent scouting*.
AKA: Things I shouted drunkenly at my buddies. That I remember.
Heh. I do the same...though I don't always get around to watching them all.
Mostly the Pros and Huskies…but today is TEX, UW, and G.Tech and their opponents.
And, your point is well-taken about quality of source with regards to scouting reports.
Besides NFLDraftscout (original site), are there any you have come to rely on? NFLDraftBible sometimes has interesting content. And, as much as I’ve enjoyed Rang, I’m still not pleased with the CBS incarnation of scouting info, though some reports are detailed.
I didn't really like Ciron Black when I watched him.
Great athlete, but I didn’t really see a motor on him.

I thougth Clausen looked good today
As strange as that sounds. He reminds me of Brady. Let the pitchforks and spades begin.
It is what it is...
I wouldn't really mind it, but don't we need a defensive overhaul, too?
Destroy and rebuild our secondary except two players or so.
Pair the defense Seattle has today with the 2005 offense
and the team would have marched through the Super Bowl.
You really think so?
Are you saying that much like last year, our offensive deficiencies are to blame for our shortcomings on defense?
Fair enough.
We aren’t starting street FAs in the secondary this year, that’s a big plus for the ’09 squad.
Curry is, in his rookie season, a better football player
than anyone who took the field in 2005. That his mistakes are mental and he is still so good makes me crazy excited for his future.
I am, too.
He is an impact player. I get occasionally discouraged about him, at times, when I see players like Cushing putting up better numbers. Regardless, I’m glad we have him. He is a superstar in the making, I hope.
I watched the dvd that recapped the 2005 season.
My, how far we have fallen. I mean, I had forgotten how brutally we crushed teams that year.
It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

Are they getting it done?
Jennings, Grant, even Lucas are questionable – maybe overrated. I can’t say I can give you anything substantial other than we get creamed by various sets of receivers (right now, off the top of my head) . I realize the pass-rush is part of the equation as well, but I thought ours wasn’t bad.
That statistic doesn't isolate the play of the secondary
The pass rush plays an integral role in pass defense.
"Its not that I can't read and write, its just that I don't like to read and write."

First, the word 'overrated' is meaningless.
It assumes a standard and that floating standard can be manipulated infinitely. It’s innately arbitrary.
The 2005 defense was paired with a monster offense. It played ahead. A lot. It beat down teams in desperate situations.
This year, Seattle’s offense is garbage (Wallace) or mediocre (Hasselbeck). It plays behind. It faces tons of drives because the offense cannot sustain a drive.
What I mean by overrated is that they are our players and because of that, our perceptions are off.
Has Grant really supported the run? Has Lucas really covered particularly well? I’m not sure I can quantify our secondary’s worth. I suspect is remains a team shortcoming.
My perception of Hasselbeck is definitely tainted. I see him in there and look at the WRs and say: wow, we have a great passing offense. I’m not confused about our RBs, though.
Lucas has played well
Wilson has not, really, but I still like his potential. Grant is mostly good in cover but not great in the box. Babineaux has been playing better. Trufant is still Trufant. It’s not an elite secondary, but it has talent.
It's because when you're ahead 11 points
you can pretty much run or pass with impunity and it warps how we perceive the absolute value of the unit.
I would think that those leads would allow teams to run it more.
Further devaluing the secondary’s rankings.
It doesn't work like that
Ok, let me put it like this:
Let’s say a team playing from behind has five possible things it can do. The team that is ahead wins by guessing one of those five. The team that is behind wins otherwise.
The team playing ahead has ten possible things it can do.
The team that is behind must be able to have more success than the team that is ahead
in the same amount of time with less winning plays.
It tilts the game towards the defense of the winning team. So that defense looks better than it is.
That's what happens in the NFL
as the game state becomes more desperate for the trailing team, it’s playbook becomes more and more predictable. This allows the opposing defense to better predict the offense’s play and better defend it.
Perhaps not relevant anymore
But I’d be interested to hear where you’d go with this analogy.
by Brendan Scolari on Nov 8, 2009 12:14 AM PST up reply actions
This is why Indy's D comes off better than it is
It is also why I loathe the tampa 2 look. It has worked in situationally, but I doubt it can be counted on as a core concept without an accompanying strong O.
It is what it is...
For giggles and shits I looked at some mock draft boards today
Many have McCoy going in the second round. What?! I’d be happy with him with any of our picks. I’m not exactly sold on him, but do thus far think he’s a top notch prospect. 2nd round? Wow. If he declared last year he’d have at least went ahead of Sanchez.
Definitely want to see QB/RB in the first two rounds (if not first round). I think Ruskell goes for OT help in free agency. QB and RB help look pretty dead in FA.
We’ll see, still over half a season to go.
Here's Walter from WalterFootball.com
http://walterfootball.com/draft2010QB.php
Colt McCoy shouldn’t be a Round 1-3 prospect, but he happens to be a great fit for Kansas City and Denver’s offense, which requires its quarterbacks to play out of the shotgun, maintain no arm strength and not make reads.
He ranked him the 12th best QB on the board.
"Its not that I can't read and write, its just that I don't like to read and write."
-Charlie
Although I'd prefer not to spend two high picks on backs.
I’d much rather get at least one OL in that batch
I'd be pretty fucking happy with that..
I’d still want a DT, but maybe I can keep an eye out for the #91 kid from USC.

I dreamed about tomorrow's game
We were 3-0 down in the 1st.
Seahawks exploded for 24 in the 2nd with 3 Hasselbeck TD passes.
I looked at the game stats and Hasselbeck was sacked 4 times which sucked, but then I saw Seattle sacked Stafford 13 times. 4 of them by Kerney.
Seems realistic (even the Kerney part).
Fire Bruce DeHaven.
I had an extremely weird dream that Julius Jones broke through the left side
Got past the linebackers and there was the Ref in the way running towards him and he stiff armed the Ref, thinking he was a player, and brutally knocked him flat on his butt on the way to a TD. My own laughing woke me up.
I had a dream we were at Arizona
And made Darryl Tapp a FB and he scored from 1 yard out.
Fire Bruce DeHaven.
57 completion %
Ugh. He will come out because he can only do damage to his overinflated stock.
It is what it is...
Locker's throw was bad but my God why did they not review that last UCLA TD?
Sometimes I feel the decision to review is up to a dog who must choose food from two bowls marked ‘review’ and ‘not to review’. It seems so capricious.
5 turnovers and only 1 TD off of it with 3 FGs
That would have been irrelevant if not for Sark’s propensity to throw instead of run.
Fire Bruce DeHaven.
I understand this, of course, Washington blew this game in other ways
I’m not arguing ‘Washington would have won were it not for the stupid refs’, so let’s put that aside. This is just about instant replay. I’m saying having instant replay but using it inconsistently and inefficiently sort of makes it idiotic
Yeah that should've been reviewed
I thought it hit the ground but at another glance it may have gone off his arm.
Fire Bruce DeHaven.
Not sure anyone else is watching
But Canfield, the SR. QB from OSU has an absolute cannon. This guy is a definite sleeper in my mind. I love this guy.
It is what it is...
You can tack Javid Best off your mock drafts
He just got way messed up. Fireman are working on him.
It is what it is...
My heart sinks watching what happened to Jahvid Best
I am in no position to speculate, but it is seriously scary. I hope he is okay, and not just in a football sense, but in a life sense.
I would take Canfield over McCoy
yes, I’m easily swayed, and awed by basic arm strength.
It is what it is...

Fire Bruce DeHaven.
Wow, he was a healthy inactive 2 of the last 3 games
I think Bobby’s still got some life left in him, but his game requires a great rapport with the QB that he wasn’t going to get with Cassel.

Landed on the back of his head according to the AP report
Been taken to the hospital.
Fire Bruce DeHaven.
It looked really, really bad
and only looked worse when he showed no signs of consciousness as he was being wheeled off the field.
And since I am a derailer and a bit drunk
McCoy looked average today against a terrible pass defense. His ball float badly.

I went to college on a scholarship for trumpet
Marching band is very physical :)
It is what it is...
No no no, DCI is a traditional brass/percussion competition league
Example the 2004 Cavaliers
I marched with the Seattle Cascades division I band for a while after high school. Toughest music and most demanding drill I’ve ever seen in my life
Varies from group to group
Leading up to the start of the season it was almost daily for about 8-10 hours per rehearsal. The camps were even more brutal.
Sadly I never got the chance to perform with them during the season. About two weeks before the start I fractured my ankle running drill and had to be replaced. Decided to go to school instead and never went back.
Two hours a day to work on just the music
Two to three hours of basic block and upwards of six hours of drill work.
Yeah
That’s a lot more than a college band practices. I’m betting USC is on the extreme end and they go something like 8 hours during the week plus from about 6am until 2 hours before kickoff on Saturday.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
For about four months marching is all DCI musicians do.
Season typically starts in late May and ends in mid August, so there’s not too much that interferes
Yeah I figured it was full timeish
as opposed to college where they have to work around class schedules.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
They actually enforce this shit at USC
most college bands are awful though.
We actually had a lot of CBD guys in the band when I was at USC, I think they largely realized that the style and purpose of college bands is a lot different from DCI.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
This is true
but just speaking on preferences I find DCI to be a whole lot more entertaining/challenging.
It's a matter of preference for entertainment
You have to remember that College bands pander to their crowds and are largely bound by tradition and such.
I thought USC’s “drive it” style was pretty physically challenging but most schools just do slide/roll step which isn’t tough.
Scramble bands are awful.
And HBC bands are a different class altogether.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
I've got a bit of a built-in bias.
My high school band competed corps style and I didn’t have much exposure to typical college style performance before that.
