Aaron Curry Suffers Right Hip Pointer; Nate Burleson to Have Further Tests on Ankle
Danny O'Neil tweeted that Aaron Curry avoided a more serious injury, but suffered a painful one: a right hip pointer. Nate Burleson will have further tests on his injured ankle, but, no offense Nate, I rather hope he is held out for the rest of the season. Burleson is an ex-Hawk waiting out his time. Starting him ahead of younger, under-contract talent can no longer be justified. Deon Butler is not the right substitute for Burleson, but Ben Obomanu or, hell, even Courtney Taylor could be. Neither have the pure talent of Burleson, but this season is decidedly no longer about winning games. It is about the future, and delaying the future to prolong this arduous present is as foolish as it is painful.

I'm not sure I understand.
What do Obo or Taylor have that Butler doesn’t?
This is something I never quite figured out about the Hawks' WR's.
Burly, to me, seems like a flanker-ish WR. Quick, good after the catch, can go deep occasionally. He doesn’t have the hands or strength to be a split-end, so I thought.
I thought we brought Housh in for that role, since he fits the bill perfectly.
I guess it was a matter of Knapp and co. wanting a good spread of WR’s that could play anywhere. He seems to like using matchups as a way of getting an advantage over the defense (see his use of TE’s out wide to get his WR’s on safeties and LB’s.).
are you kidding me.
Housh and Burly are having good years, all things considered. We shoul have cut Branch in the offseason. Butler should have played all year. Seattles fear of playing unproven people has been the story of the past few years.
Jamar Adams is a punishing hitter, So… play him. Butler impresses, the rest of the league plays their young receivers but Seattle is to conservative across the board. How do you let Leonard Weaver go. Identifying talent on your own roster and having the courage to put them in a position to contribute. ie Golsdon San Fran, Knox in Chicago. the list goes on
Anyone want to argue cutting Branch still?

That's pretty scattershot, but here goes.
Take a look at what happened to our WRs last year and then argue for cutting any of our top four. Even if you are unconcerned about depth, cutting Branch should only be a final option after asking him to restructure his contract and trying to trade him.
Jamar Adams is a punishing hitter, so….so what? There are other requirements to play safety.
As for Weaver, we let him go because A) he wanted too much money and B) he didn’t fit with the scheme. Here is John’s take on it:
Seattle didn’t think Weaver was valuable enough as a blocking back to pay him the $1 million more he received from Philadelphia than Seattle paid Justin Griffith, and of the many ways Knapp has changed his playbook, playing his fullback as a feature back was not going to be one of them.
Um, what am I kidding you about?
I didn’t mention Branch at all.
Sorry, I was speaking to the Burleson is done as a Hawk idea.
I agree with your assessment. Although if you were a WR split out left this season, you were not getting the ball thrown your way. So matchups were a non issue this year.

I may be a FNG here
But do you think Mora or Knapp will do that considering their jobs are on the line as well? I would love to see more Obo though
If Mora starts making decisions that are not in the best interest of the team to save his job
I hope the organization fires him now.
I made a comment somewhere else about free agent WR's and and got laughed at
But with Branch and Burleson possibly gone and Housh getting older it is not an area we have locked up
He made some comments about how upset he is with the offensive line
and that he “can’t promise there won’t be changes.” I honestly don’t know what he could do. Put in Wrotto? Vallos?

Sure.

I think Hass can be blamed for the fumbles.

Spencer has been snapping with his left for a couple weeks
but after two bad snaps, one of which looked to be on the QB and the other coming after a QB change, he can’t snap any more?
The etiquette for new posters, FYI
is to write a misspelled screed calling for heads and blaming everyone.
And now that he isn't much of a factor on ST
I think you are right. The only one of all the guys in question that would be weird to see in another uni is Hass. Not saying I disagree but I always assumed he would retire a Hawk. Guess thats the nature of the biz
Seattle needs it though
even if Hasselbeck isn’t the problem, Seattle needs to commit to a plan towards the future.
True. Lets just hope the next one sticks
and we don’t experience a carousel of qb’s like other bad teams have recently
I think the NFL is becoming more forgiving of quarterbacks
and that most teams can draft a quarterback in the first and expect a good player in a few seasons.
plus we can still invest heavily in other areas
if we take a QB in the first. Paying Hasselbeck his salary next year is justifiable if cap space is freed up else where(Kerney, Jones, Branch).

Deon Butler can be a number one. I will continue to say it and believe it
Watch film. He has all the things.
Just because he’s smallish doesn’t mean anything and if his size in the only reason you don’t have him as a number one, you are mistaking size = talent.
It’s the same reason these two horrible beliefs spread through the nfl
Any Runningback can run well behind a good offensive line. Untrue, there is a reason Julius Jones got benched for Barber
6’0 corners are the only ones strong enough to cover one on one (Heh, Ken Lucas is proof that’s wrong.

Butler isn't the answer at #1
But he could be a great #2/#3. Size is a huge need for a #1, as well as speed. While size alone does not a great Wr make, some of the best #1’s aren’t the burners, they’re the 6’4 guys who jump out of the stadium on a fade to get it over a smaller CB. But lightning quick, smaller receivers are nothing to laugh at. Steve Smith, Wes Welker, Hines Ward and others are great examples of Butler-like talents that excel in this league. I believe Butler will be a productive player in the NFL, but probably not at the #1 spot.

I would love Golden Tate on the Hawks.
Especially if we landed Clausen. Tate with Butler and Housh would be a good foundation.
Also a die-hard Hawks fan.

We don't need another Deion Branch though.
We need a Boldin or Andre Johnson.

I don't see Butler as a #1
But I too, see him as a receiver who could really succeed in the league. I’ve got high hopes for him.

I dont know where else to put this.
And no I am not trolling.
My name is Jordann and im from the other blog(BRB)
Just wanted to say good luck to yall the rest of the season and it was nice to have some of yall Seahawk fans over there at BRB. Yall are more than welcome anytime to stop by and shoot sh*t with us and perhaps talk a little football.
Sorry to hear about Curry though. Some of us wanted to see him on a Texans uniform and the fire that he showed yesterday validates my belief that he’s gonna develop into a good football player.
Come by any time.
When it comes to football, even Northwest coffee drinking hippies and Southern rednecks can get along.
