Happy 12th Man Day
On December 15th, 1984, the Seattle Seahawks retired the number 12 in honor of the fans.
Yes, it was used first by Texas A&M. It's also been used all over the soccer world. I don't care. What matters to me is what the symbol of 12 means to me, to us, as Seattle fans. A symbol of undying support. Times are tough right now as far as victories go, and things can get mean when things go bad. I'd like to use this day as a reminder that no matter the disagreements, there's still a bond that we share.
Happy 25th anniversary, 12th man.

I get chills every time they raise that flag.

Hah
I grew up supporting one of those soccer teams that has had the 12th man thing forever, though we usually call ourselves “the Legion”, especially over the last few decades. Heck, our town even has a Space Needle-esque
No wonder I like the Hawks so much
12th man 4ever
Well said
Sometimes we get heated. But it’s because we all love football and love the Hawks more.
Seahawks for life!
The demise of the Broncos in '09 is our future. Pray hard.
1984 was the year
that Kenny Easley won NFL Defensive Player of the Year. We need another Kenny Easley.
Well it is little wonder that the 12th man was born
not during the worst of times but during the best of times. When the defense was badass and the Kingdome was rocking and Kenny Easley was dishing punishment. It was a good time to be a fan and thus the 12th man was born. If it had been born during 1992 then it would be a different story.
Salute'!

I think the hardest discussion out there today is who has the best fans in the NFL? We will never get an answer because of how extremely biased the argument is. But how many NFL teams have retired the number 12 in dedication to their fans? Just one, and to add to its greatness we have a flag that flies on top of our most famous landmark, the space needle. As we all know before every home game we have legends of seattle sports past come and raise the flag and yes I too get goosebumps everytime they do it. I can hardly wait until Mike “the walrus” Holmgren comes out to raise it.
We are fans unlike any fans in the league and unlike all the other “powerhouse” fan bases we have not had the luxury of a dynasty or even tons of hall of famers. But we do have passionate fans and besides what they are saying, the saints do not own the loudest stadium, we do. Unlike the saints we do not play in a dome so you can place that crown squarely on our heads as loudest fans in the league don’t make me bring up the false start count.
Alls I wanted to say is I love that you posted this and gave my reasons why we have one of if not thee best fan base in football and our true blue followers will all be rewarded someday when we bring that silver football to seattle, what day that will be I do not know, but until than keep the 12th man roaring strong! GO HAWKS!
