Roethlisberger is a hell of a QB

But the Packers are handing them this game.

Bruce DeHaven must go.

by SSreporters on Dec 20, 2009 4:45 PM PST reply actions

I like watching Roethlisberger, given how terrible the PITT oline is

just seeing him run around for 15 seconds avoiding sacks then passing.

It’s a thin line, though. I can’t stand watching Favre.

by Will Kier on Dec 20, 2009 4:59 PM PST up reply actions

Well to be fair Steelers handed the packers game.

Then the packers handed the steelers game.

And I benched Rodgers in the FG league this week in fear of NorthEastern weather that didn’t happen. Don’t fail me now Brett Favre!

I'm behind 70 points in fantasy

I apparently can’t win a thing. Earlier this week I lost a bet in who would win a basketball game I attended.

I seriously doubt the Seahawks are getting him now.

Locker is staying at UW.

We might not have to

move up we could end up picking 5th the way we are going.

by A'Seahawks_Warriors on Dec 20, 2009 5:23 PM PST up reply actions

I don't think Bradford is slipping past 4.

I think the Seahawks, at this rate, will finish with the 6th to 8th overall pick.

Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

by Carl Shinyama on Dec 20, 2009 5:26 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree

There’s plenty of reason for skepticism regarding Bradford.

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 5:27 PM PST up reply actions

Mark Sanchez had plenty, he still went top 5.

I think need will surpass skepticism in this case, and it will inflate Bradford’s stock. Locker also had tons more skepticism, but he was generally considered a top 5 talent.

Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

by Carl Shinyama on Dec 20, 2009 5:33 PM PST up reply actions

They do, but it will be a lot more expensive.

Locker staying at UW just shot Bradford’s stock up by about 5 spots. I am almost praying for a comine-warrior to drop Bradford’s stock a little bit.

Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

by Carl Shinyama on Dec 20, 2009 5:26 PM PST up reply actions

He did throw a pass to Carlson with plenty of zip.

The idea that Hasselbeck doesn’t have ANY velocity on his passes is getting ludicrous. He can still make NFL-caliber throws. Only, the velocity on his throws are declining and is affecting his play. To say he doesn’t have zip is not accurate. Yet.

He is almost done, but the Hasselbeck era may have passed him by. I believe a new quarterback will be under center for the Seahawks next year.

Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

by Carl Shinyama on Dec 20, 2009 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

No, I do not.

It sounds to me that popular opinion is warping the perception of Hasselbeck’s zip to the point where everyone believes that he has NO zip. His velocity has declined, yes, but I saw some passes that a good zip to them. Also, a good deal of his passes weren’t much different from he’s made in the past.

To say that he has NO zip is inaccurate. That was my point. He has SOME zip. It’s just below average now.

Sam Bradford, future Seattle Seahawk.

The only bright spot in my day right now

Is the fact that Avatar is indeed failing at breaking even. $73M on opening weekend when it has to gross over $400M just to pay for the production costs (to say nothing of the marketing, advertising, distribution, etc.)

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 5:26 PM PST up reply actions

Because the movie looked awful from the first trailer

And I don’t want it to succeed just because people look at it and go “Ooh, shiny”.

Any movie that rehashes the line “You’re not in Kansas anymore” deserves to fail.

by Hmph on Dec 20, 2009 5:27 PM PST up reply actions

It's a writing disaster, I'm sure

but writing is a small part of making a movie. A move can be good without strong writing or a compelling story. Avatar is eye candy, an experience.

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 5:28 PM PST up reply actions

Shockingly the script isn't terrible.

It’s cliched, but it’s cliched like Star Wars was. There’s no gray, it’s very clear that there’s a good side and a bad side.

by BrianL on Dec 20, 2009 5:33 PM PST up reply actions

And to further this comparison

I saw this movie with my dad and his first words after we left the theater was “This was A New Hope circa 1977.”

But everyone that it looked awful.

And then went and saw it and is now comparing to Star Wars of our generation.

And star wars writing was terrible.

So basically, Y-chromosome Twilight.

You’re only making me hate this movie more.

by Hmph on Dec 20, 2009 5:36 PM PST up reply actions

As Scruffy will attest

I was perhaps the most skeptical person here at FG when it came to this movie. I was so very, very wrong about it.

by BrianL on Dec 20, 2009 5:39 PM PST up reply actions

I for one can hate movies like Transformers

Because their huge success saturates the market with special-effects oriented films that don’t rely on decent writing. That probably makes it harder for studios to invest in projects that do rely on a comprehensible screenplay, as it takes hundreds of millions to fuel these dated leviathans like Avatar that no one will be talking about in five years, despite whatever their expensive, massive marketing campaigns tell you.

by Anticitizen_One on Dec 20, 2009 6:11 PM PST up reply actions

Even though I feel a film like Invictus

has more creativity involved in its creation, a film that is fueled by being marketed as the coolest looking movie and just pumped in hundreds of millions to some really talented CGI dudes will rake in far more cash. To me, a layman who doesn’t know anything about hollywood, that’s unfair.

by Anticitizen_One on Dec 20, 2009 6:27 PM PST up reply actions

I think today has forced me to watch as many bowl games as possible

I can't get into this game at all, today was such a gut punch.

People say that the way Green Bay lost today is the most devastating way to lose, but I’d take losing on a hailmary over losing like the Hawks did any day of the week. Their is nothing more depressing in football than today’s game.

Jones isn't terrible

He really does look identical to his brother in many ways. I think he would be playing at almost the exact same level if he was playing for the Jets.

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 6:10 PM PST up reply actions

You know, it would have been very easy for Mora and the staff to give all the carries to Force, especially with the pressure from the media.

I give them credit for realizing that Jones faced a lot of top run defenses and that he didn’t deserve to be fully benched. This might be on Knapp, though, not Mora.

3 man rush.

We’ve tried it several times and it doesn’t work. You need competent secondary guys to make that work and a little bit of a pass rush when rushing 3.

FIRE JIM MORA NOW!

by SSreporters on Dec 20, 2009 6:25 PM PST up reply actions

The criticism of Marshall was overblown

but I don’t think he’s a good defensive coordinator anymore. I want to see what Bradley can do without Mora’s fingerprints.

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 6:23 PM PST up reply actions

Speaking of GMs, the Panther have acquired several nice players...

Stewart, E.Brown, Gross and other Olinemen. They have good corners and usually that is a strength as is the secondary as a whole. Who’s running that show and could he be a candidate?

This.

by Misfit74 on Dec 20, 2009 6:22 PM PST reply actions

Depends on how you define "real big money"

There were plenty of first round QB busts before Leaf who made big money as defined by
one of the following:

(a) what the rest of the league was paying for the position

(b) percentage of the team’s payroll for players

© inflation-adjusted dollars

He’s worth more than that, but draft picks are vogue.

by John Morgan on Dec 20, 2009 6:40 PM PST up reply actions

Probably the most interesting comment from Mora's post-game presser

Was it just a bit of “what else is going to go wrong this year” or was he genuinely surprised that Jennings was all we had as a backup?

I didn’t see it on TV, but I hear they were trying guys out on the sideline. Apparently Jennings beat out Owen Schmitt. Furness wanted to know how Mora could have failed to have a backup already in place. Maybe — and I mean maybe — because he had misplaced trust in DeHaven, who’s been a special teams coach for years and supposedly knows what he’s doing?

by Mr Fish on Dec 20, 2009 7:14 PM PST up reply actions

So I watched the majority of the game today with my father, who really doesn't care about football.

He’ll watch from time to time, but doesn’t actively follow. Midway through the third quarter before we shut it off to go do other more interesting things, I asked him who he thought was killing the offense. “Hasselbeck”, he said. He wasn’t entirely sure why the announcers were disparaging the offensive line because Hass had plenty of time. My dad, who rarely watches football and isn’t invested in the Hawks, saw this in three quarters.

by abender20 on Dec 20, 2009 7:28 PM PST reply actions

You know what some people forget

Is that Holmgren ran a very simplified offense that worked like a multiple choice exam where as this offense is less about filling in answers with your number 2 pencil and more about the essay created with time.

I'd hate to think you just cut a player like Matt.

QBs are too scarce to get nothing for him by cutting him outright. After teams have seen Warner, Garcia, Pennington, and others rise above their career path and enjoy some success helping other teams win, there surely is some value in trading Matt rather than cutting him, even considering how poorly he’s played in recent season/games.
