Alphonso Smith's Turd Season
Newly signed undrafted free agent CB Tony Carter played ahead of Alphonso Smith in nickel packages last week. Smith did make it onto the field as the cover man on Chaz Schilens game-winning touchdown. It's been a lost season for the second-rounder, which can't make the Broncos feel too good about giving up their 2010 first-round pick to draft him.
Thanks, Ruskell and Denver. Considering our team's horrid 2009 season, reading this made me feel very, very happy. :) Let's hope this pick turns out to be a special player that helps us build toward our future, or facilitates additional trading in Seattle's 2010 draft. I'm grateful to our former GM for making this deal.

Denver is headed for 8-8 or 9-7
which will be a mid 1st round pick…. They were hoping that pick would be a later one, and we were all afraid of that when they were 6-0… The Broncos are one thing that ended up rolling our way this year.
They will likely make the playoffs, even if they lose today
since the Broncos own many of the tiebreakers with other teams, and I can’t see them losing to KC at home.
In the event they make the playoffs, the very best case scenario for their draft pick would be 21st.
Unlikely, but not impossible.
I think the Ravens hold tie breaker over them.
If they lose next week they’ll have a mess on their hands as far as getting in, but if they win they should be good, it looks like they hold better conference/division records than Houston/NYJ. If they lay an egg (entirely possible— KC did just play Cincy very tough and they look much better w/o LJ and with both Bowe and Chambers) than the chances are they’ll be out at 8-8 with one of the worst collapses in NFL history.

'one of the worst collapses in nfl history'
I like the sound of that. Especially when some of us said to temper the early-season 6-0 panic with a look at the remaining schedule. Though to be fair, I didn’t expect quite this big of a slide. And, I couldn’t be happier about it. :)
This.
If the Rams take Suh at #1, any interest in trading up for a QB [Clausen?]?
I am a Detroit Lions fan and wonder if the Seahawks are ready to upgrade their QB for the future?
Based on the Draft Value chart, your two first round picks would be close to the [theoretical] value of our #2 pick in round one.
I doubt it.
We have too many needs and there are too many solid 2nd tier QB prospects who have just as much opportunity to develop as Clausen. We’ve taken a franchise QB from ND in the top 2 before and it didn’t work out so well, I just don’t see a value in it given our multitude of needs. (Not that Rick Mirer is a fair comparison, just saying…)
Also, I think the Draft Value chart is obsolete. Teams are far less likely to overpay to move up these days, and until a new CBA adjusts skyrocketing rookie salaries, you will continue to see teams much prefer to move down a few picks and acquire later round picks than move up.
